  • Image inpainting is an image processing technique that restores an image by naturally filling the empty or damaged regions in an image. In this paper, we present a new image inpainting technique that can suppress the generation of texture garbage which is one of the artifacts of existing exemplar-based image inpainting. Unlike the existing technique, only the stationary source patch is sampled as the exemplar patch based on the assumption of spatial stationarity of the texture. This prevents the texture garbage, which is an inconsistent piece of texture from being copied to the target region. Experimental results show that the texture synthesis using the proposed method produces more natural inpainting results than the existing method.

  • Sleep apnea refers to a condition in which a person does not breathe during sleep, and is a dangerous symptom that blocks oxygen supply in the body, causing various complications, and the elderly and infants can die if severe. In this paper, we present an algorithm that classifies sleep breathing by analyzing the intensity of breathing with images alone in preparation for the risk of sleep apnea. Only the chest of the person being measured is set to the Region of Interest (ROI) to determine the breathing strength by the differential image within the corresponding ROI area. The adult was selected as the target of the measurement and the breathing strength was measured accurately, and the difference in breathing intensity was also distinguished using depth information. Two videos of sleeping babies also show that even microscopic breathing motions smaller than adults can be detected, which is also expected to help prevent infant death syndrome (SIDS).

  • Direct injection of genome editing tools such as CRISPR/Cas9 system into developing embryos has been widely used to generate genetically engineered pigs. The approach allows us to produce pigs carrying targeted modifications at high efficiency without having to apply somatic cell nuclear transfer. However, the targeted modifications during embryogenesis often result in mosaicism, which causes issues in phenotyping founder animals and establishing a group of pigs carrying intended modifications. This study was aimed to establish a genomic PCR and sequencing system of a single blastomere in the four-cell embryos to detect potential mosaicism. We performed genomic PCR in four individual blastomeres from four-cell embryos. We successfully amplified target genomic region from single blastomeres of 4-cell stage embryo by PCR. Sanger sequencing of the PCR amplicons obtained from the blastomeres suggested that PCR-based genotyping of single blastomere was a feasible method to determine mutation type generated by genome editing technology such as CRISPR/Cas9 in early stage embryos. In conclusion, we successfully genotyped single blastomeres in a single 4-cell stage embryo to detect potential mosaicism in porcine embryos. Our approach offers a simple platform that can be used to screen the prevalence of mosaicism from designed CRISPR/Cas9 systems.

  • To develop wide-band noise absorbers with a special design for low-frequency performance, this study proposes a tin oxide (Sn-O) thin films as the noise absorbing materials in a microstrip line. Sn-O thin films were deposited on polyimide film substrates by reactive sputtering of the Sn target under flowing $O_{2}$ gas, exhibiting a wide variation of surface resistance (in the range of $10^{0}-10^{5}{\Omega}$) depending on the oxygen partial pressure during deposition. The microstrip line with characteristic impedance of $50\Omega$ was used for the measurement of noise absorption by the Sn-O films. The reflection parameter $(S_{11})$ increased with a decrease of surface resistance due to an impedance mismatch at the boundary between the film and the microstrip line. Meanwhile, the transmission parameter $(S_{21})$ diminished with a decrease of surface resistance resulting from an Ohmic loss of the Sn-O films. The maximum noise absorption predicted at an optimum surface resistance of the Sn-O films was about $150{\Omega}$. For this film, greater power absorption is predicted in the lower frequency region (about 70% at 1 GHz) than in conventional magnetic sheets of high magnetic loss, indicating that Ohmic loss is the predominant loss parameter for the conduction noise absorption in the low frequency band.

  • This paper proposes a new framework of reversible data hiding scheme for absolute moment truncation coding (AMBTC) compressed images. AMBTC-based RDH can be applied to optical remote sensing (ORS) image transmission, which achieves target region preservation and image compression simultaneously. Existing methods can be concluded as two types. In type I schemes, stego codes mimic the original AMBTC format where no file bloat occurs, yet the carried secret data is limited. Type II schemes utilize predication errors to recode quantity levels of AMBTC codes which achieves significant increase in embedding capacity. However, such recoding causes bloat inside stego format, which is not appropriate in mentioned ORS transmission. The proposed method is a novel type I RDH method which prevents bloat inside AMBTC stego codes with significant improvement in embedding capacity. The AMBTC compressed trios are grouped into two categories according to a given threshold. In smooth trio, the modified low quantity level is constructed by concatenating Huffman codes and secret bits. The reversible contrast mapping (RCM) is performed to complex trios for data embedment. Experiments show that the proposed scheme provides highest payload compared with existing type I methods. Meanwhile, no expansion inside stego codes is caused.

  • Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is one of the most painful disorder in the orofacial region, and many patients have suffered from this disease. For the effective management of TN, fundamental epidemiologic data related to the target population group are essential. Thus, this study was performed to clarify the epidemiological characteristics of TN in the Korean population. This is the first national study to investigate the prevalence of TN in Korean patients. Methods: From 2014 to 2018, population-based medical data for 51,276,314 subscribers to the National Health Insurance Service of Korea were used for this study. Results: The incidence of TN was 100.21 per 100,000 person-years in the year of 2018 in Korea, and the male to female ratio was 1:2.14. The age group of 51-59 years had the highest prevalence of TN. Constant increases in medical cost, regional imbalance, and differences in prescription patterns by the medical specialties were showed in the management of TN. Conclusions: The results in this study will not only help to study the characteristics of TN, but also serve as an important basis for the effective management of TN in Korea.

  • Sclerostin (SOST), a regulator of bone formation in osteocytes, inhibits the canonical Wnt signaling by interacting with low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5/6 (LRP5/6) to prevent Wnt binding. Loss-of-function mutations of the SOST gene caused massive bone outgrowth and SOST-null mouse exhibited a high bone density phenotype. Therefore, SOST has been suggested as a promising therapeutic target for osteoporosis. A few previous studies with X-ray crystallography identified the binding interfaces between LRP6 and SOST, but there are limitations in these studies as they used truncated SOST protein or SOST peptide. Here, we analyzed the conformational dynamics of SOST-LRP6 E1E2 complex using hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS). We examined the effect of the C-terminal tail of SOST on LRP6 conformation upon complex formation. HDX-MS analysis suggested a new potential binding interface for the C-terminal region of SOST that was missing from the previous crystal structure of the SOST-LRP6 E1E2 complex.

  • This research aimed at studying the factors that influence new media exposure of political news by youths in Isan society in Thailand. The target group comprised 1,200 individuals, obtained from multi-stage sampling from undergraduate students in Isan's autonomous universities, governmental universities, and private institutions. The data collection tool was a questionnaire, the content of which was validated by experts. The reliability of the tool was tested by the formula for Cronbach's alpha coefficient, which yielded a reliability of 0.83. Multiple regression analysis was applied to analyze the data. The results, regarding factors influencing the channels for political news exposure, showed that channels for political news exposure were mostly influenced by inner drives, followed by importance in political news exposure, influence from social networks, and specific characteristics of the Internet. This could explain the variation of channels for political news exposure at 46.5%. In terms of factors influencing political news selection, it was found that political news selection was influenced mostly from social networks, followed by inner drives, benefits from political news exposure, specific characteristics of the Internet, and the field of study. The variation of the political news selection could be explained at 44.6%. These results elaborate on the current situation in Thailand, especially in Isan region, where youths in higher education are playing an increasing role in demonstrating their political stance through various political activities.

  • Single-ring circular array antennas can be applied to direction finding systems in order to use nose-section in other purposes, and the interferometry is a proper direction finding method to those systems. We usually make the interferometer baseline long enough to achieve good angular accuracy. However, an interferometer with baseline longer than a half-wavelength has the ambiguity problem. In this paper, we present a novel method for solving the ambiguity problem in interferometry systems. This technique is based on the amplitude comparison method and the space division table, and it can place a target within the angular region in which the ambiguity problem does not occur by roughly estimating direction-of-arrival. The Monte Carlo simulation results show that proposed method can effectively remove the ambiguity problem in the system.
