Recently oil price has got lower, but energy efficiency has been considered as an important factor to minimize ship operational costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For the reason, it is necessary that energy efficiency improvement for hull form design and operational performance reflect an understanding of the vessel's operational profile. Throughout the life of the vessel, this can lead to important economies of fuel, even if, in some cases, a small penalty can be taken for design condition. In the present paper, hull form was developed for 5,000TEU class container carrier at given operation profile. As a CFD result at several design point, optimized hull form has improved resistance performance in comparison with the basis hull form. To reducing the viscosity and the wave resistance at multi draft and multi speed, the hull form was investigated for Cp-curve, frame and local shape. Numerical study has been performed using WAVIS & Star-CCM+ and verified by model test in the towing tank.

The finite difference simulation method for ship waves is introduced for hull form improvement. Numerical simulations were performed for a series of modified hull forms and the simulated results were used for the determination of the better hull forms. A 4,400 TEU container carrier which was designed and experimented in towing tank was chosen for the purpose. The calculation results are compared with those of model test, of simplified Neumann-kelvin problems and of Rankine source method. In this study, it is shown that the combination of the computer simulation by our method with the experiment provides one of the most economical and reliable procedures of hull form improvement and that the degree of accuracy of this method is so high that it can cope with very practical design purposes.

Three twisted rudders fit for large container ships have been developed; 1) the Z-twisted rudder that is an asymmetry type taking into consideration incoming flow angles of the propeller slipstream, 2) the ZB-twisted rudder with a rudder bulb added onto the Z-twisted rudder, and 3) the ZB-F twisted rudder with a rudder fin attached to the ZB-twisted rudder. The twisted rudders have been designed computationally with the hydrodynamic characteristics in a self-propulsion condition in mind. The governing equation is the Navier-Stokes equations in an unsteady turbulent flow. The turbulence model applied is the Reynolds stress. The calculation was carried out in towing and self-propulsion conditions. The sliding mesh technique was employed to simulate the flow around the propeller. The speed performances of the ship with the twisted rudders were verified through model tests in a towing tank. The twisted versions showed greater performance driven by increased hull efficiency from less thrust deduction fraction and more effective wake fraction and decreased propeller rotating speed.
The ability of baffles in increasing the sloshing damping is investigated in this study by theoretical, numerical, and experimental methods. Baffles Installed as separators in containers, can change the dynamic properties of sloshing. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of baffle placement. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of placing baffles in order to provide appropriate frequencies and damping and to present a practical baffle arrangement in the design ofsloshing. In this regard, an experimental setup is designed to study the fluid sloshing behavior and damping properties in cylindrical tanks filled up to an arbitrary depth. A new combination of annular and sectorial baffles is employed to evaluate fluid sloshing in the tank. The results show that the proposed baffle arrangement has a desired effect on the damping and fluid sloshing frequencies and optimally satisfies the anticipated design requirements. In addition, the theoretical frequencies exceed empirical frequencies at the points far from baffles, while at the points close to baffles, the empirical ones are higher than theoretical ones. Also, at the depths near the bottom of container sloshing frequencies are not affected by sectorial baffles, although the theoretical curve predicts a reduction in the fundamental frequency of sloshing. Finally, the results of finite volume and finite element methods which compared with experimental data, indicated a good agreement between different approaches.
Recently, in proportion to the increase of earthquake occurrence-frequency and its strength in the countries within the circum-pan Pacific earthquake belt, a concept of earthquake-proof design for huge structures containing liquid has been growing up. This study deals with the refinement of classical numerical approaches for the free vibration analysis of separated structure and liquid motions. According to the liquid-structure interaction, LNG-storage tanks exhibit two distinguished eigenmodes, the sloshing mode and the bulging mode. For the sloshing -mode analysis, we refine the classical rigid-tank model by reflecting the container flexibility. While, for the bulging-mode analysis, we refine the classical uncoupled structural vibration system by taking the liquid free-surface fluctuation into consideration. We first construct the refined dynamic models for both problems, and present the refined numerical procedures. Furthermore, in order for the efficient treatment of large-scale matrices, we employ the Lanczos iteration scheme and the frontal-solver for our test FEM program. With the developed program we carry out numerical experiments illustrating the theoretical results.

Recently, ultra large scale of ship is being ordered continuously and because of that, the accurate prediction of ship maneuverability in design stage becomes important matter. The model test like PMM test or CFD analysis are representative methods for predicting the maneuverability of ship. In this study, the captive model tests were carried out for predicting maneuverability of MOERI container ship(KCS) which is opened to the public using X-Y Carriage of Ocean Engineering Wide Tank of University of Ulsan. Considering the dimensions of tank, 2m class model ship was used for captive model test. CMT(Circular Motion Test) was performed for obtaining purer hydrodynamic coefficients related to yawing velocity. For getting hydrodynamic coefficients which cannot be obtained using CMT, PMM test(Planar Motion Mechanism test) were also performed. The maneuverability prediction results by simulation are compared with those of other research institutes.

A Mobile Harbor is a new transportation platform which can load and unload has containers to and from very large container ships on the sea. Currently designed Mobile Harbor a catamaran type which is equipped with precisely controlled gantry crane on the deck, and can transport 250 TEUs at a time. Loading and unloading works by crane require very small motion of Mobile Harbor in waves, because it may be operated outside of harbors. In this project, applicability of both tuned-type anti-rolling tank and maglev-type active mass driver is studied as anti-rolling systems.
The purpose of this study is to assess quantitatively the amount of leaks and the extent of dispersion in case of a leak at a hydrogen fluoride tank container unloading station, and to suggest a safety improvement plan to prevent recurrence of similar accidents. In 2012, Company H leaks 8 tonnes of tank containers with a maximum storage capacity of 18 Ton, causing it to become a social issue. As a result of calculation using Gaussian plume model, the concentration was estimated to be more than 20ppm from the leak point to 1,321 m radius. The leakage of hydrogen fluoride from the company R in 2014 was estimated to be 11.02 kg, of which 2.9 kg was treated by the scrubber. As a result of calculation using Gaussian plum model, the damage range with a concentration of 20ppm or more from the leak source was estimated to be 69 m in radius. As a result of comparing the above two accidents, it was found that the leakage amount was about 987 times different and the damaged site was more than 19 times different. Therefore, it was concluded that it was necessary to control the wearing of the protective equipment, the enclosure of the unloading site, the installation of the scrubber, and the emergency training to avoid the accidental leakage of a hydrogen fluoride from the unloading site.

Container vessels continue to grow in size, led by global shipowner. Large ships can be loaded more cargo at a time, reducing the cost of transportation per teu. this eventually leads to economies of sale, in which the production cost per unit decreases with increasing output. in accordance with the 70th Convention of the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization, as of January 1, 2020, MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 14.1.3 will be effective. All vessels must be meet these criteria to reduce Sox emissions and reduce NOx emissions by reducing the content of manned sulfur oxides from 3.5% to less than 0.5%, otherwise IACS Member States Entry to the port is denied. in order to do that need to LNG storage tank. in this study characteristic of the material after line heating (600℃,700℃,800℃,900℃) of 9% Ni steel used in the manufacture of LNG fuel tank of ship were verified using by mechanical test. In the heating method by line heating. The initial properties of steel are changed by variables such as temperature, time, speed. The experimental data of line heating presented in this paper confirmed that the initial change of 9% Ni steel could be minimized.

In this paper, ship performance prediction solver was developed using open source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) libraries. The mass- and momentum-conservation equations and turbulent model with a wall function for the turbulent closer were considered. The volume fraction transport equation with a high-resolution interface capturing scheme were selected for free-surface simulation. The predicted wave pattern around KRISO container ship (KCS) using developed program showed good agreement against existing experimental data. For the revolution of a propeller in the propulsive test, general grid interface (GGI) library was used. The predicted propulsive performance showed 7 % difference against experimental data. Two-phase mixture model was developed to simulate a cavitation and applied to a propeller. The sheet cavitation on the propeller was predicted well. From results, the potential of the numerical tank developed by open source libraries was verified by applying it to KCS.
