수치해석을 이용한 파력발전용 웰즈터빈의 유동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flow Characteristics of a Wells Turbine for Wave Power Conversion Using Numerical Analysis)

  • The aerodynamics of the Wells turbine has been studied using 3-d, unstructured mesh flow solver for the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The basic feature of the Wells turbine is that even though the cyclic airflow produces oscillating axial forces on the airfoil blades, the tangential force on the rotor is always in the same direction. Geometry used to define 3-D numerical grid is based upon that of an experimental test rig. The 3-D Wells turbine model, consisting of approximate 220,000 cells is tested of four axial flow rates. In the calculations the angle of attack has been varied between 10˚ and 30˚ of blades, Representative results from each case are presented graphically andy analysed. It is concluded that this technique holds much promise for future development of Wells turbines.

  • The natural frequency measurement of passenger car tire under the load and rotation are studied. In order to obtain theoretical natural frequency and mode shape, the plane vibration of a tire is modeled to that of circular beam. By using the Tickling method based on Hamilton's principle, theoretical results are determined by considering tension force due to tire inflation pressure, rotational velocity and tangential, radial stiffness. Modal parameters varying the inflation pressure, load, rotational velocity are determined experimentally by using frequency response function method. The results show that experimental conditions are parameter for shifting of natural frequency.

  • Yaw brakes are used in wind turbines to control the orientation of blades to be perpendicular to the wind. These devices are very important machine elements because they are closely related to the overall efficiency of wind turbines. One unit of yaw brakes is composed of a friction pad and a caliper. In this study, a tangential force between the friction pad and the disk is calculated when the brake is acting in 750 kW wind turbine. Then, stress distribution and the deformation of the caliper are calculated using a finite element analysis. An experimental equipment is also developed to verify the exactness of calculated results. The analytical and experimental results are presented and discussed.

  • This paper deals with torque analysis of axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) type eddy current brake (ECB) based on analytical field computation. On the basis of a magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional (2-D) polar coordinate system, analytical solutions for normal and tangential flux density due to permanent magnet (PM) considering eddy current effect are obtained. And then, using derived analytical field solutions, braking torque and normal force characteristics according to rotor speed are also predicted. A three-dimensional (3-D) finite element (FE) analysis is employed to confirm the validity of analyses.

  • Flame surface area is a critical parameter determining turbulent flame speed. Three-dimensional direct numerical simulations(DNS) were conducted to figure out the evolution process of flame surface area. Fully compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved to reproduce premixed flame embedded in isotropic decaying turbulent flow. The tangential straining and curvature of propagating surface affect development of flame area. In this study, four different turbulent intensity flows and three different Le number flames are investigated to force changes in straining and curvature effects. Consistent results are obtained for the probability density functions (PDF) of strain and curvature with previous researches. It is revealed that displacement speed, which is a speed of flame surface relative to unburnt flow, controls the balance between sink and source of flame surface area.

  • A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of airfoil on the optimum flap height using NACA0015 Wells turbine. The five double flaps which have 0.5% difference were selected. A Navier-Stokes code, CFX-TASCflow, was used to calculate the flow field of the Wells turbine. The basic feature of the Wells turbine is that even though the cyclic airflow produces oscillating axial forces on the airfoil blades, the tangential force on the rotor is always in the same direction. Geometry used to define the three dimension numerical grid is based upon that of an experimental test rig. This paper tries In optimized disign the double flap of Wells turbine with the numerical analysis.

  • The method of analyzing flexible mechanisms with clearances was studied considering flexibility of beams in the mechanism using finite elements. Both ends of a beam were modeled as free following Dubowsky's impact pair model. Instead some force constraints were imposed at imposed at the connections between adjoining links. Coulomb model has been developed using dry frictions in place of tangential damping forces in the impact pair model and the contact compliance and damping coefficient approximated in a form of root function were used. As examples, impacts of a rigid ball in a cylinder, impact beam model and four-bar mechanisms made up of three flexible links with clearance connections were simulated numerically. The results from examples showed similar but a little bit smaller magnitude of impact forces compared with published studies.

  • Ultra-abrasives such as diamond and CBN have used to maintain accuracy and form deviation for superalloy etc. This study contains the dry cylindrical grinding of metals with Vitrified-bond CBN wheel. For various conditions of grinding speed, workpiece speed, grinding depth and feed speed of table, the grinding resistance, the surface roughness, and the material removal are measured and discussed.
