A Study on Optimization of Neuro-fuzzy System Parameter using Taguchi Method (다구찌 방법을 이용한 뉴로퍼지 시스템 파라미터의 최적화)

  • Neuro-Fuzzy System is to combine merits of fuzzy inference system and neural networks. The neuro-fuzzy system applies a information about given input-output data to fuzzy theories and deals these fuzzy values with neural networks, e.g. first, redefines normalized input-output data as membership functions and then executes thses fuzzy information with backpropagation neural networks. This paper describes an innovative application of the Taguchi method for the determination of these parameters to meet the training speed and accuracy requirements. Results drawn from this research show that the Taguchi method provides an effective means to enhance the performance of the neuro-fuzzy system in terms of the speed for learning and the accuracy for recall.

  • In this study, a model and an analysis method for parameter design is presented a linear relation between the input signal and the ideal value of a performance characteristic. Furthermore, There presented a new performance measure, expected quality loss after adjustment, which is proved to be equivalent to Taguchi's SN ratio approximately. On the basis of this, a two-step optimization procedure is proposed for parameter design considering the signal factor and the quality characteristics with continuous variable. Proposed procedure and Taguchi two-stage procedure are compared.

  • Wood-PP composite materials were prepared by Taguchi robust design method with L9 orthogonal array to optimize experimental conditions. Tensile strength of the composite materials was considered as the main properties. Amount of wood powder and modifier of resin were chosen as significant parameters. As the result of Taguchi analysis in this study, the amount of wood powder was the most influencing parameter on the increase of tensile strength. The optimal conditions were determined and these results were good agreement with data analyzed by Taguchi robust design method.

  • The flow rate and the noise level of 18 cross flow fans were measured to analyze the effect of design variables on these and to finally find the optimal design value. These data were analyzed by the Taguchi method and the neural network. The optimal values obtained by the neural network showed good agreements with that by the Taguchi method. The effects of eight design variables on the fan performance and the noise were evaluated and discussed.

  • This paper presents the optimal design of BLDC motor keeping the average torque and cogging toruqe of the initial model while minimizing the volume of magnet pole by FEM and Taguchi method. Experimental tests are performed by Finite element method, and the second order polynomial equations are obtained from FEM results due to design parameter variation referred to orthogonal arrays by Taguchi. The presented optimization shows a big reduction of computation time and a largely reduced volume of magnet pole.

  • This paper presents a method for tolerance design using the Taguchi Method(TM) and general purpose mechanism analysis program. Also the method is tolerance design with repect to performance improvement of a mechamism. To use the orthogonal array, mathematical model of a mechanism is established and experiments are carried out by the general purpose mechanism analysis program. The contact model is used to consider a clearance effect. This method is applied to the VTR Deck mechanism. This method can be used in tolerance design of general mechanisms.

  • Taguchi and VTA(variation Transmission Analysis) methods have been widely used recently as new methods for product design. In this study, Taguchi method using analysis of variance and VTA method using regression analysis are reviewed and compared with each other in terms of parameter design and tolerance design. In analysis of variance, variation of quality characteristics arises from noise factors, therefore the optimal levels of design factors are selected to minimize the effect of noise factors. n regression analysis, variation of quality characteristics arises from variation of each own design factors. As a method to reduce variation of these quality characteristics, sensitivity analysis was performed for each design factors. An example of calculating tolerance interval for the given defect rate in PPM is also introduced. Especially, the new method is suggested to increase the estimation accuracy of variation of quality characteristics through regression analysis.

  • Robust design is to identify appropriate settings of control factors that make the system's performance robust to to changes in the noise factors that represent the source of variation. In the Taguchi parameter design, the product array approach using orthogonal arrays is mainly used. However, it often requires an excessive number of experiments. An alternative approach, which is called the combined array approach, was suggested by Welch et. al. (1990) and studied by others. In these studies, only single response variable was considered. We propose how to simultaneously optimize multiple responses when we use the combined array approach.
