  • This study aims to identify the role of science park for technology commercialization and business promotion. After theoretical review about science park and technology commercialization, the instruments for stimulating entrepreneurship and business in science park are described. The experience of Taedok Science Town is examined in terms of main sectors of activities, universities as base for technology transfer and the potential for technology commercialization. In conclusion, the complex model is suggested as the development strategy for business incubation in accordance with the stages of development and active technology commercialization.

  • This study attempts to analysis the roles of national laboratories in the context of regional innovation systems and the contribution to local economic development in the case of Taedok Science Park in Korea. It also tries comparative studies between Taedok Science Park and some European experiences. Recently the role of national laboratories as key innovation agents for regional development strategies is emphasized in European countries. In the similar context, national laboratories have explicit missions to assist in the formations of new firms and to support existing small and medium-sized enterprises in their localities. It is found that these functions are largely present and become more important in Taedok, but that the linkages between national laboratories and local firms are still weaker than some European countries. This study concludes that national laboratories in Korea should reinforce the industry-research linkages with local economic activities in the region to stimulate cooperation activities.

  • The intrinsic degradation behavior of $(V_{0.53}Ti_{0.47})_{0.925}Fe_{0.075}$ alloy with BCC structure and the two plateau regions (the low and high plateau region) has been investigate during the temperature-induced hydrogen absorption-desorption cycling (thermal cycling). After 400 thermal cycles between room temperature and $600^{\circ}C$ under 10atm $H_2$, the total reversible hydrogen absorption capacity decreased by about 40%. From thermal desorption analysis it was found that the degradation behavior at each plateau region was different. In addition, XRD analysis showed that the crystal structure of the sample in de-hydrided state was changed from BCC to BCT after degradation, and that of the sample in hydrided state it was maintained as FCC although peaks were broadened after degradation. From the result of static isothermal hydrogenation treatment it were found that crystal structure change from BCC to BCT was caused by the thermal energy. TEM analysis showed that the peak broadening was due to the formation of an amorphous phase in FCC matrix.

  • Carbon fiber/epoxy composites using electrodeposited monomeric and polymeric coupling agents were compared with the dipping and the untreated cases. Treating conditions such as time, concentration and temperature were optimized. Four-fibers embedded micro-composites were prepared for fragmentation test. Interfacial properties of four-fiber composites with different surface treatments were investigated with simultaneous acoustic emission (AE) monitoring. The microfailure mechanisms occurring from fiber break, matrix and interlayer crackings were examined by AE parameters and an optical microscope. It was found that interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of electrodeposited carbon fibers was much higher than the other cases under dry and wet conditions. Well separated and different-shaped AE groups occurs for the untreated and ED treated case, respectively.
