PURPOSES : Emulsified asphalt is critical for road construction. The objective of applying asphalt emulsion as an adhesive is to prevent the phenomenon of debonding between the upper and lower layers. The quantity and veriety of bituminous material can be varied according to the type of pavement and site conditions. The objective of this study is to reveal the optimum application rates of the emulsified asphalt materials by types of tack-coats using Interface Shear Strength(ISS). METHODS : In the research, emulsified asphalt was paved on the surface of the divided mixture. The specimens of paving asphalt emulsion were utilized to evaluate the bond strength of tack-coat materials. In the evaluation process, NCHRP Report 712 was utilized to investigate the Interface Shear Strength, which reflects the bond capacity of asphalt emulsion. Then, the optimum residual application rates by tack-coat types were determined using regression analysis. RESULTS :As a consequence of squared R values investigated from 0.7 to 1 as part of the regression analysis, the tendency of predicted ISS values was compared with the results. The optimum residual application rates of AP-3, RS(C)-4, QRS-4, and BD-Coat were determined to be $0.78{\ell}/m^2$, $0.51{\ell}/m^2$, $0.53{\ell}/m^2$, and $0.73{\ell}/m^2$, respectively, utilizing 4th regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS :Based on the result of this study, it was not feasible to conclude whether higher residual application of tack-coat material leads to improved bond capacity. Rather, the shearing strength varies depending on the type of pavement.

The main objective of this study is to develop a test for measuring the bond shear strength between pavement layers. The research is also conducted to evaluate tack coat materials and application rate in porous pavement. The experiment includes using two types of emulsions (RSC-4, Modified Emulsion) and a asphalt binder type (HM-1). HM-1 was developed to be applied in porous pavement. The bond shear strengths were measured by a direct shear type device under various test conditions. The shear strength may not be appropriate in the evaluation of the bond shear strength, while the toughness of the test may be useful. In case of the tack coat application rate in porous pavement, RSC-4 has to be used a minimum amount of $0.8l/m^2$ and modified emulsion asphalt has to be applied a volume of use $0.5{\sim}0.6l/m^2$. HM-1, asphalt cement type, is far stronger bond shear strength than emulsified asphalt tack coat and had showed the excellent trackless property.
Fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) materials are increasingly being used for strengthening and repair of steel structures. An issue that concerns engineers in steel members which are retrofitted with FRP is stress experienced due to temperature changes. The changing temperature affects the interface bond between the FRP and Steel. This research focused on the effects of cyclical thermal loadings on the interface properties of FRP bounded to steel members. Over fifty tests were conducted to investigate the thermal effects on bonding between FRP and steel, which were cycled from temperature of $-11^{\circ}C$ ($12^{\circ}F$) to $60^{\circ}C$ ($140^{\circ}F$) for 21-36 days. This investigation consisted of two test protocols, 1) the tensile test of epoxy resin, tack coat, FRP and FRP-steel plate, 2) tensile test of each FRP compound and FRP with steel after going through thermal cyclic loading. This investigation reveals an extensive reduction in the composite's strength.
PURPOSES: The performance of tack coat, commonly used for layer interface bonding, is affected by application rate and curing time. In this study, bonding strength tests were performed according to the application rate and curing time of asphalt emulsion. Based on finding from this study, optimum application rates and curing times are proposed. METHODS: In order to investigate bonding characteristic of asphalt emulsion, tests were performed on both asphalt concrete pavement and portland concrete pavement. Also, asphalt emulsions were tested at the application rate of 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and $0.8{\ell}/m^2$ and at the curing time of 0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 24 hours. Pull-off test and shear bonding strength test, which commonly used for bonding strength measurement of asphalt emulsion, were adopted for this study. To assess field performance under different testing condition, asphalt emulsions were applied to in-service pavement. Throughout coefficient of determination analysis between material index properties from asphalt emulsion and mechanical response from bonding strength tests, performance correlativity was analyzed. RESULTS: Test results show that optimum application rate for asphalt overlay on asphalt concrete pavement (AOA) and asphalt overlay on concrete pavement (AOC) was $0.4{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$ and $0.3{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. According to the curing time increment, tensile strength and shear strength of AOC were increased to 22~44% and 20~39%, respectively. AOA case also show strength increment in tensile strength (42%) and shear strength (9%). We tested the applicability of tack coat materials at the field sites, and our findings demonstrated that the bonding (for D and E) and rapid curing (for B, C, and D, E) performances were superior than others. Among material index properties, there was a high correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength test result. CONCLUSIONS : Result show that interlayer bonding strength was affected by asphalt emulsion type, application rate and curing time. AOC required slightly higher application ($0.1{\ell}/m^2$) than AOA. Both AOA and AOC cases show higher strength at longer curing time. Up to 2hours of curing, rapid strength increments were observed, but strength increment ratio was decreased after 2hours of curing. From the observed correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength, it is expected that penetration ratio can be used as one of important factors affecting bonding strength analysis.
PURPOSES : In order to evaluate a crack resistance at cold joint, sealing tape was adopted to apply at cold joint instead of typical tack coat material(RSC-4). The sealing tape was made by hot sealing material. The crack resistance as function of environmental and traffic loading was measured with visual observation. METHODS : In this study, the crack resistance was evaluated as function of environmental and traffic loading. The freeze-thaw method was adopted for environmental loading of asphalt pavement. condition. The damage of cold joint under freeze-thaw action is initiated by ice expansion load and accelerated by the interfacial damage between new and old asphalt pavement. The traffic loading was applied with wheel tracking machine on the cold joint area of the asphalt pavement for 3 hours at $25^{\circ}C$. The evaluation of crack resistance was measured with visual observation. The freeze-thaw results shows that the sealing tape was significantly increased the crack resistance based on. RESULTS : To estimate the crack resistance at cold joint area due to the environmental loading, the Freeze-thaw test was conducted by exposing the product to freezing temperature(approximately $-18^{\circ}C$) for 24 hours, and then allowing it to thaw at $60^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The tack coat material(RSC-4) was debonded after 21 cycles of the Freeze-thaw test. The first crack was observed after 14 freeze-thaw cycle with RSC-4 material. But, the sealing tape was not debonded after 24 cycle test. Also, the sealing tape shows the better performance of the crack resistance under the traffic loading with wheel track test. The crack was generated the under traffic loading with RSC-4(tack coating), however, the crack was not shown with sealing tape. It indicates that the sealing tape has a strong resistance of tensile stress due to traffic loading. CONCLUSIONS :Based on limited laboratory test result, a performance of crack resistance using the sealing tape is better than that of general tack coat material(RSC-4). It means that the sealing tape is possible to extend a pavement service life because the crack, one of the main pavement distresses, will be delayed.
PURPOSES : A geo-grid pavement, e.g., a stress-absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI), can be applied to an asphalt-overlay method on the existing surface-pavement layer for pavement maintenance related to reflection cracking. Reflection cracking can occur when a crack in the existing surface layer influences the overlay pavement. It can reduce the pavement life cycle and adversely affect traffic safety. Moreover, a failed overlay can reduce the economic value. In this regard, the objective of this study is to evaluate the bonding properties between the rigid pavement and a SAMI by using the direct shear test and the pull-off test. The predicted fractural energy functions with the shear stress were determined from a numerical analysis of the moving average method and the polynomial regression method. METHODS : In this research, the shear and pull-off tests were performed to evaluate the properties of mixtures constructed using no interlayer, a tack-coat, and SAMI with fabric and without fabric. The lower mixture parts (describing the existing pavement) were mixed using the 25-40-8 joint cement-concrete standard. The overlay layer was constructed especially using polymer-modified stone mastic asphalt (SMA) pavement. It was composed of an SMA aggregate gradation and applied as the modified agent. The sixth polynomial regression equation and the general moving average method were utilized to estimate the interlayer shear strength. These numerical analysis methods were also used to determine the predictive models for estimating the fracture energy. RESULTS : From the direct shear test and the pull-off test results, the mixture bonded using the tack-coat (applied as the interlayer between the overlay layer and the jointed cement concrete) had the strongest shear resistance and bonding strength. In contrast, the SAMI pavement without fiber has a strong need for fractural energy at failure. CONCLUSIONS : The effects of site-reflection cracking can be determined using the same tests on cored specimens. Further, an empirical-mechanical finite-element method (FEM) must be done to understand the appropriate SAMI application. In this regard, the FEM application analy pavement-design analysis using thesis and bonding property tests using cored specimens from public roads will be conducted in further research.
Amaranth(Amaranthus spp. L.) and quinoa (Chenpodium quinoa Willd.) are old crops from South, Central America and Central Asia and their grains have been identified as very promising food crops because of their exceptional nutritive value. Squalene is an important ingredient in skin cosmetics and computer disc lubricants as well as bioactive materials such as inhibition of fungal and mammalian sterol biosynthesis, antitumor, anticancer, and immunomodulation. Amaranth has a component called squalene (2,6,10,15,19,23-hexamethyl-2,6,10,14,22-tetraco-sahexaene) about 1/300 of the seed and $5\~8\%$ of its seed oil. Oil and squalene content in amaranth seed were different for the species investigated. Squalene content in seed oil also increased by $15.5\%$ due to puffing and from 6.96 to $8.01\%$ by refining and bleaching. Saponin concentrations in quinoa seed ranged 0.01 to $5.6\%$. Saponins are located in the outer layers of quinoa grain. These layers include the perianth, pericarp, a seed coat layer, and a cuticle like structure. Oleanane-type triterpenes saponins are of great interest because of their diverse pharmacological properties, for instance, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, contraceptive, and cholesterol-lowering effects. It is known that quinoa contains a number of structurally diverse saponins including the aglycones, oleanolic acid, hederagenin, and phytolaccagenic acid, which are new potential in gredient for pharmacological properties. It is likely that these saponin levels will be considerably affected by genetic, agronomic and environmental factors as well as by processing. With the current enhanced public interest in health and nutrition amaranth and quinoa will most likely remain in the immediate future within the realm of exotic health foods until such time as agricultural production meets the quantities and qualify required by industrial food manufacturers.
One of the most important factors that have a large influence on performance of the solar water heater system is performance of the solar collector, more detailedly, coating technology on the surface of the solar collector, which can provide high solar absorptance and low emittance. The core of the coating technology is to coat solar selective surfaces. In this study, various performance experiments are carried out using $Cr_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}15H_2O$ coating technology. Here, IGBT(Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) of 5000A-15V was used as the surface processing rectifier which can stably output power and also can control voltage and current. The plating solution mainly contains black chrome$^{+3}$ concentration, H-y Conductivity, N-u Complex, NF Additive and NC-2 Wetter. Before applying the black chrome coating on the copper plate, optimal conditions are provided by using various preprocessing methods such as removal of fat, activation, electrolytic polishing, nickel strike, copper sulfate plating and bright neckel plating, and then the automatic continuous coating experiment are performed according to plating time and cathode current density. In the experiment, after the removal of fat, chemical polishing, nickel strike and activation processes as the preprocessing methods, the black chrome coating was performed in a plate solution temperature of $28^{\circ}C$ and a cathode current density of $18A/cm^2$ for 90 seconds. The thickness of chrome and nickel on the coated plate is $0.389{\mu}m$, $159{\mu}m$ respectively. As a result of the coating experiment, it showed the most excellent performance having a high solar absorptance of 98% and a low emittance of $5{\pm}1%$ when the black chrome surface had a thickness of $0.398{\mu}m$.

Asphalt-based waterproofing materials for bridge decks face issues such as softening or liquefaction of the material during the process of pouring hot asphalt concrete on top of the waterproofing layer. This leads to instability and reduced thickness of the waterproofing layer. To address these problems, new solutions beyond the existing materials, including the development and adoption of new materials, are required. Therefore, this study investigates the properties of MMA(Methyl Methacrylate) coating waterproofing material, which meets the basic physical properties for bridge deck waterproofing. We examined the overall quality standards in a system where the substrate concrete, waterproofing material, and paving layer are integrated. The study confirmed the applicability of MMA coating waterproofing material on bridge decks. The results indicate that a stable application of MMA coating waterproofing material for civil engineering structures' bridge decks can be achieved with a mix ratio of hard MMA resin : soft MMA resin : powder = 6 : 34 : 60. Additionally, when using emulsified asphalt with hardening characteristics for the adhesion between the dissimilar materials of MMA waterproofing and asphalt concrete, it is expected to meet the minimum quality standards of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's 'Guidelines for Asphalt Concrete Pavement Construction (2021.07)'.
This study was conducted to select thin-shelled and high-yielding lines in job's-tears. Two breeding lines of Suwon 3 and Suwon 6 were selected from the local collections. These two lines were tested and investigated on their characteristics under the field condition. The heading date of Suwon 3 and Suwon 6 was later one or two days, but the maturity date was one or two days earlier than that of check variety Kim-jejong, respectively. The number of grains per hill of Suwon 3, Suwon 6 was 50%, 49% greater and the milling rate was 3.8%, 5.6% higher than that of check variety, respectively. Althought 1000 grain weight of Suwon 3 and Suwon 6 was 20g lighter and the rate of ripeness was 6%, 12% lower, the raw grain yield was 22%, 20% higher than that of check variety, respectively. The thickness of seed coat of Suwon 3 and Suwon 6 was thiner and the hardness of seed coat was lower than that of check variety, therefore the milling time was decreased 12%, 7% compare to check variety, respectively. The crude protein contents of Suwon 3 and Suwon 6 was slightly higher and the amino acid composition of Suwon 6 was similar to Kimjejong, but Suwon 3 was lower than that of check variety.
