통신시스템의 고발열 부품 냉각용 써모사이폰 개발 (Development of Thermosyphon for Cooling of High Power Electronic Component in Telecommunication System)

  • 통신시스템의 고발열 전자부품 냉각을 위해 3종류의 써모싸이폰을 각각의 용도에 따라 개 발하였으며 그 각각의 설계변수에 대한 냉각특성을 실험적으로 구하였다. TS-I에서는 증발부 내부 에 금속스크린 메쉬형심지를 삽입함으로써 시간에 따른 온도 변화를 작게 하여 냉각성능 안정성을 확보하였고, TS-II에서는 9W/cm2의 높은 냉각성능을 가진 루프형 써모사이폰을 개발하였으며 TS-III에서는 작동유체의 종류, 파이프개수 와이어 삽입여부등 써모사이폰의 주요 설계변수에 따 른 냉각특성을 구하였다.

음향 실험 및 모델 기법을 이용한 도루묵 (Arctoscopus japonicus)의 음향산란반사강도 특성 (Target strength characteristics of sailfin sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus) using ex situ experiment and acoustic model)

  • Acoustic target strength (TS) measurement and theoretical acoustic scattering models were applied to estimate the TS for assessing the fish biomass. TS measurement was made of ex situ sailfin sandfish Arctoscopus japonicus at 70 and 120 kHz, and then compared to backscatter model prediction. The live sandfish was tethered in seawater using monofilament lines. Measurements were made versus incidence angle, $-50^{\circ}$ to $50^{\circ}$ relative to dorsal aspect directions. Distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) model was used to calculated TS pattern. The TS values of sandfish (body length: 16.2 cm) at 70 and 120 kHz were -66.94 dB and -64.45 dB, respectively, and were about 20 dB lower than TS of other fishes in Korea waters. These TS levels were distributed within the range of the theoretical TS. Ex situ measurement and theoretical TS may be applied to improve acoustical detection and biomass estimation of the sandfish, and is necessary to measure with various lengths.

  • Turner syndrome (TS) is one of the most common chromosomal abnormalities, with an estimated frequency among female live births of 1/2,000-3,000. The syndrome is characterized by the partial or complete absence of one X chromosome (45,X karyotype). We reported a unique case of a 40-year-old woman with TS accompanying unexpected elongated styloid process specific to Eagle syndrome (ES) and followed up-prolactinoma. The present article is the first report to define the cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) features of TS accompanying ES. Patients with TS carry various risks that make treatment more complicated; thus advanced imaging techniques for proper treatment and follow-up are extremely important. In the light of CBCT examination, craniofacial abnormalities specific to TS and accompanying syndromes such as the crowding of teeth especially in the maxillary anterior region caused by maxillary narrowness, micrognatic maxilla and mandible, relative mandibular retrusion, malocclusion, open-bite, and an elongated styloid process (length of 32.7 mm) on the right side were illustrated in detail.

Seed of Trichosanthes kirilowii MAXIM Inhibits TNF-${\alpha}$-induced Migration In Human Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells Via MMP-9 Inhibition

  • Atherosclerosis, slow progressing inflammatory lesion in arteries, is one of the major causes of cardiovascular diseases. As mortality due to cardiovascular disease keeps increasing in Korea, researches on pathological mechanism of atherosclerosis may be beneficial in fighting against cardiovascular diseases. It is known that migration and MMP-9 secretion of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell(VSMC) play a significant part in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, although detailed mechanism of entire process is not clarified. We investigated whether the seeds of Trichosanthes kirilowii maxim (TS), inhibit migration and MMP-9 production of HASMC(human aortic SMC), which were induced by TNF-${\alpha}$ treatment. Migration assay showed that TS inhibited the migration of HASMC induced by TNF-${\alpha}$, in dose dependent manner. Also by Zymography MMP-9 production of HASMC was found to be reduced by TS, both in time and in dose dependent manner. Western blotting results suggest TS suppress activity of MAPkinases.

The role of tRNA-derived small RNAs in aging

  • Aging is characterized by a gradual decline in biological functions, leading to the increased probability of diseases and deaths in organisms. Previous studies have identified biological factors that modulate aging and lifespan, including non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). Here, we review the relationship between aging and tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs), ncRNAs that are generated from the cleavage of tRNAs. We describe age-dependent changes in tsRNA levels and their functions in age-related diseases, such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. We also discuss the association of tsRNAs with aging-regulating processes, including mitochondrial respiration and reduced mRNA translation. We cover recent findings regarding the potential roles of tsRNAs in cellular senescence, a major cause of organismal aging. Overall, our review will provide useful information for understanding the roles of tsRNAs in aging and age-associated diseases.

In vitro Anti-inflammation Effect of Adventitious Shoots of Toona sinesis in Propionibacterium acnes-induced Skin Dermatitis

  • Toona sinensis (TS) leaf is known to antinociceptive, antioxidative stress and skin moisturizing effects. Acnes vulgaris is a chronic skin disease with various symptoms including itchiness, pain and interruption of normal skin function. Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) is a major factor in the occurrence of inflammatory acnes. This study evaluated the antioxidant and anti-inflammation effects by TS extract from adventitious shoots. TS extract showed anti-inflammatory activities by suppression of pro-inflammation mediators (iNOS and COX-2) in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. TS extract also has anti-inflammatory activities by inhibiting the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines on P. acnes-stimulated HaCaT cells. These effects were regulated by MAPK signaling pathway. Therefore, we suggest that TS extract from adventitious shoots might have applications as a medicine for treating P. acnes-induced skin diseases.

알루미늄 함유 티타늄 실리카라이트-1 촉매의 합성 및 특성 연구 (Synthesis and Characterization of Al-containing Titanium Silicalite-1 Catalysts)

  • 알루미늄 함유 티타늄 실리카라이트-1 ([Al]-TS-1) 촉매를 수열합성하고 실리카원, 알루미늄원, $SiO_2/TiO_2$ 몰비, 및 숙성처리와 같은 합성인자들의 영향을 살펴 보았다. 제조한 촉매의 구조, 결정의 크기 및 모양은 X-선 회절분석 및 주사전자 현미경으로 살펴보았으며, UV-vis DRS 분석으로 제올라이트 구조 내로 치환된 티타늄의 상태를 확인하였다. [Al]-TS-1의 합성에 있어서는 약 24시간의 숙성과정이 필수적이었으며, Cab-O-Sil을 실리카원으로 사용한 경우가 Ludox 및 TEOS를 사용한 경우보다 더욱 빠른 결정화 속도를 나타내었다. 알루민산나트륨을 알루미늄원으로 사용한 경우가 질산알루미늄을 사용한 경우보다 더 높은 결정화도를 나타내었고 결정화 시간도 단축되었다. 합성한 촉매의 산화/환원 특성은 과산화수소를 산화제로 2-butanol의 액상 산화를 모델 반응으로 선택하여 검토하였다. 산촉매반응으로 톨루엔 알킬화반응을 수행한 결과, [Al]-TS-1의 산세기는 구조내에 존재하는 티타늄에 기인하여 약해졌으며 para-에틸톨루엔의 선택도는 향상됨을 알 수 있었다.

보조동력장치용 환형 역류형 연소기 (TS2) 성능 시험 (Performance Test of A Reverse-Annular Type Combustor (TS2) for APU)

  • Development of a small gas-turbine combustor for 100㎾ class APU(Auxiliary Power Unit) has been performed. This combustor is a reverse-annular type and has a tangential swiller in the liner head to improve the fuel/air mixing and flame stability. Three main and three pilot fuel injectors of the simplex pressure-swirl type are used. The performance target at the design condition includes a turbine inlet temperature of l170k, a combustion efficiency of 99%, a pattern factor of 30%, and an engine durability of 3000 hours. Under developing the combustor, we conducted the performance test of our first prototype(TS1) with some variants. As a result of the test, the performance targets of the combustor are satisfied except that the pattern factor is about 4% higher than the target value. Therefore, the second prototype(TS2) was redesigned and the performance test was conducted with the critical focus on the pattern factor and the exit mean temperature. We adopted TS2 four variants to check the improvement of the pattern factor. As a result, the pattern factors of several variants were satisfied with the performance target. Finally, the TS2A variant was chosen as a final combustor fur our APU model.

OVERCOMING THE NUTRITIONAL LIMITATIONS OF RICE STRAW FOR RUMINANTS 1. UREA AMMONIA TREATMENT AND SUPPLEMENTATION WITH RICE BRAN AND GLIRICIDIA FOR LACTATING SURTI BUFFALOES

  • Fifty-six lactating Surti buffaloes, fed rice straw, were allocated to seven treatment groups as follows: 1. Straw supplemented with 2% urea (SS) + 1.5kg rice bran (RB) 2. Straw treated with 4% urea in an open stack (TS open) 3. TS open + 1.5 kg RB 4. TS open + 3.0 kg RB 5. TS open + 1.5 kg RB + 3.0 kg Gliricidia (Gl) 6. Straw treated with 4% urea in a closed pit (TS closed) 7. TS closed + 1.5 kg RB + 3.0 kg Gl Milk production, butterfat percentage and liveweight gain of cows and calves were measured and tested with analysis of variance. The results are: - The animals on urea treated straw (group 2) had a higher milk production (p<0.05), higher butterfat production (p<0.05) and less liveweight gain loss (p<0.05) than the animals on urea supplemented straw (group 1). Butterfat percentage also increased by treatment, although not significantly (p>0.05). - Increasing levels of rice bran (groups 3 and 4 compared to 2) increased total milk production and milked quantity of butterfat, while butterfat percentage decreased (p < 0.05). - Milk production increased (p <0.05) with extra rice bran added (group 4 compared to 3), but was not affected (p > 0.05) by Gliricidia addition (group 5 compared to 3). Butterfat percentage dropped with extra rice bran supplement (p <0.05). The lack of response to Gliricidia indicated that protein is not limiting in treated straw, or that Gliricidia protein is partly insoluble. - System of treatment had no effect on milk production (p >0.05), while supplementation with 1.5 kg RB and 3.0 kg Gliricidia increased production and caused a lower butterfat percentage (p <0.05) (groups 2, 5, 6 and 7 compared). A significant (p <0.05) interaction treatment system x supplementation was present. It was concluded, that both treatment and supplementation did affect milk production as well as milk composition. Gliricidia addition gave less effect than rice bran, indicating different requirements for starchy substances in the feed. Treatment of straw does not negatively affect butterfat production, it can increase butterfat production and even butterfat percentage.

Thermus thermophilus HJ6 유래 내열성 Trehalose Synthase의 유전자 클로닝 및 발현 (Gene Cloning and Expression of Trehalose Synthase from Thermus thermophilus HJ6)

  • 내열성 Trehalose synthase를 생산하는 초고온성 균주 HJ6은 일본 Arima 온천수에서 분리하였다. 세포의 길이는 $2{\sim}4\;um$, 직경 0.4 um의 간균으로 생육최적 pH와 온도는 각각 6.5와 $80^{\circ}C$이였다. 분리된 균주의 16s rRNA 염기서열을 분석하고 계통학적으로 분류한 결과, HJ6 균주는 Thermus thermophilus에 속하는 것으로 동정되었다. PCR법을 이용하여 trehalose synthase(TS) 유전자를 클로닝하고 염기서열을 분석한 결과, ORF는 2,898개의 뉴클레오타이드로 구성되고 915개의 아미노산을 암호화하였다. 아마노산 서열을 바탕으로 상동성을 분석한 결과, Thermus caldophilus GK24 유래 TS와 99%, Meiothermus ruber 유래 TS와 83%의 identity를 나타내었다. 이 유전자를 온도감수성 프로모터를 포함하는 pJLA503 벡터를 이용하며 대장군에서 발현하고 정제하여 약 110 kDa 단백질을 얻을 수 있었다. 정제된 효소는 트레할로스 전환활성에 대한 최적 pH가 7.5이고, 최적온도는 $80^{\circ}C$이며, 활성의 반감기는 $90^{\circ}C$에서 40분으로 확인되어 높은 내열성을 가지는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 효소의 트레할로스 최대 전환율은 기질농도 500mM에서 55.7%를 나타내었고, 기질 농도가 증가함에 따라 더불어 증가하였기 때문에 본 효소의 트레할로스 전환율을 기질농도에 의존적인 것으로 생각되었다.
