Diagnostic evaluation methods frequently adopted in Temporomandibular Balancing Medicine (TBM) are briefly reviewed as to their basic concepts and procedures. TBM diagnostic evaluation methods may be classified into direct and indirect ones. Indirect methods are to observe any change in the manifestations with regard to the (1) posture, (2) pain, (3) muscle strength, and (4) stretching. Direct methods are to evaluate through (1) cervical palpation test, (2) restricted cervical rotation test, and (3) lateral cervical tension test. These methods may provide clinicians valuable information on the current yinyang balance and potential therapeutic factors in relation with the temporomandibular joint, a meridian system, and the whole body.

There are many studies that show the association between Parkinson's disease and temporomandibular joint disorder. However, no clinical studies have yet been reported that TMJ Banlancing Therapy (TBT) can treat Parkinson's disease. In this study, the applicability of TBT for the treatment of Parkinson's disease was investigated by reviewing several studies on the factors related to Parkinson's disease and temporomandibular joint disorder and clinical studies of patients with Parkinson's disease using conventional oral appliances and exercises. In summary, it is considered that TBT has a high potential for use in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, but it is thought that prospective clinical research is needed in the future to establish objective evidence related to this.

The purpose of this case report is to introduce a case of immediate results with TMJ balancing therapy (TBT) in the treatment of chronic patellofemoral pain (PFP). A 17-year-old female patient with 4-month-old chronic knee pain that was unresponsive to conventional treatment was treated with TBT for a total of 5 sessions. The primary outcomes were evaluated using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and the Korean version of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (KWOMAC). Following the first treatment, the NRS decreased rapidly, and the KWOMAC improved after a total of five treatments. These findings suggest that TBT can be an effective pain management option for chronic PFP patients with temporomandibular joint malposition. However, as this study is a report of a single case, further research is necessary.

본 증례에서는 극심한 삼차신경통 진단을 받고 안면부와 턱관절 통증으로 일상생활이 어려워 항간질약과 수술적 치료를 받았지만 통증이 개선되지 않던 환자에게서 음양균형장치를 포함한 자세조절훈련, 침치료 등 구조적 치료를 통해서 유의한 자각적 증상 개선뿐만 아니라 턱관절의 구조적 개선이 나타남을 관찰하였고, 요통과 경항통 및 비염 같은 제반 증상들의 호전과 척추의 구조적 개선이 관찰되었다.

It was observed that the effectiveness of Yin-yang balancing therapy of the tempromandibular joint (YBT) or functional cerebrospinal therapy (FCS) in three cases: an acute and a chronic motor tic disorder and a Tourrette's disorder (TD). These three cases were mainly managed with cervical balancing appliance for the Yin-yang Balancing on tempromandibular joint (TMJ) and pelvic balance therapy. They were treated concurrently with acupuncture, cupping and herb-medicine. Clinical outcome measurement was based on subjective measures with visual analogue scale (VAS), Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTTS) and clinical observations for 235, 279 and 273 days respectively. The patient showed positive changes after the treatment and this effect maintained over the follow-up period. Although it is not clear whether the effect is sustained afterwards or not, a positive effect on the motor tic disorders and TD was observed. And so, furthermore strict clinical and structural researches for verification on YBT is expected.

울산광역시 동구 보건소 협력 사업으로 한 2014년도 한방 난임 치료 1증례를 포함한 6증례중에서 난임의 치료방법으로 4증례는 FCST의 편차수정, 음양균형장치를 포함한 PBT, 침 치료, 부항, 뜸, 한약 등의 복합치료로 전신 증상의 개선 및 감소에 현저한 치료효과가 나타남을 관찰하였다. 2증례는 음양균형장치와 PBT는 제외되었다. 또한 그 결과로 6증례 모두 자연 임신에 성공하여 출산하였고 출산한 아기들도 건강한 상태임을 확인하였다.

FCST의 턱관절 불균형 진단은 검사자 및 환자의 주관에 의존하여 이루어지기 때문에 객관적인 진단 방법에 대한 고찰이 필요하다. 본 증례에서는 FCST 진단 방법 중 경추회전제한 검사에 대한 객관적인 검증 방법으로 표면 근전도 측정이 가능성이 있음을 관찰하였다.

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is an evaluation system on the functional balance and integration of the body. Functional aspects of the triad of health are evaluated through muscle testing to see if the balance and integration is in an optimal status or is influenced by a given environmental stimulation. Triad of health refers to the structural, chemical, and psychological aspects of the body. Muscle testing in AK is a functional neurological assessment of muscular response to a given environmental stimulation in a given individual. Meridian system and stomatognathic system as in TMJ balancing medicine serve as one of the theoretical basis of AK. This article reviews core concepts of AK, discusses yin-yang balance medicine perspectives and clinical applications of it.

Therapeutic effect of Yinyang Balancing Appliance of functional cerebrospinal therapy (FCST) for meridian and neurologic yinyang balance was observed in chronic motor tic disorder. One chronic motor tic Disorder case was managed with the Yinyang Balancing appliance on tempromandibular joint (TMJ), combined with acupuncture. Clinical outcome measurement was based on subjective measures and clinical observations. The patient showed positive changes after the treatment and this effect maintained over the follow-up period. Although it is not clear the effect is sustaining or temporary in its nature, a positive effect was observed and further clinical and biological research on FCST is expected.
