An Assessment of Thoracic Inlet Heart Score in Maltese Dogs with ACVIM Stage B Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease

  • Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) is the most common cardiac disease in dogs. Vertebral heart score (VHS) is used for the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of MMVD, and it is one of the criteria used to distinguish between stages B1 and B2 according to the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) guidelines. The thoracic inlet heart score (TIHS) method is simple to perform and provides practitioners with an additional tool for evaluating dogs with clinical signs compatible with MMVD stage B. Previous studies have evaluated TIHS. In our study, we assessed correlations of TIHS with other radiographic and echocardiographic indices in Maltese dogs with MMVD stages B1 and B2. Eighty-seven Maltese dogs with MMVD stage B1 or B2, which visited Chungnam National University Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital, were included in this study. Each dog was diagnosed with MMVD ACVIM stage B1 or B2 through physical examination, cardiac auscultation, thoracic radiography, and echocardiography, with evaluation of TIHS, VHS, vertebral left atrial size (VLAS), left atrial to the aotic root ratio (LA:Ao ratio), and left ventricular internal diameter in diastole, normalized for body weight (LVIDDn). TIHS increased as the disease progressed and showed a significant difference between stages B1 and B2. Furthermore, TIHS positively correlated with VHS, LA:Ao ratio, and LVIDDn. The correlation coefficients revealed the strongest significant correlations between TIHS and VHS. In conclusion, TIHS can help diagnose and monitor MMVD in Maltese dogs, in addition to measuring VHS.

  • In tihs paper, an acceleratiion transformation algorithm which compensates the sculling error is proposed for strapdown inertial navigation system. The algorithm utilize the corss-product of the acceleromenter outputs and gyro outputs to keep the accuracy of the vehicle velocity under high frequency dynamic motion. From the error analysis of the algorithm, it is shown that the magnitude of estimation error is reduced by four orders.

Development of An Engine Modeling and an Engine Control Module for an LPG Engine (LPG 엔진 모델링 및 ECM 설계에 관한 연구)

  • Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been widely used for commercial light-duty vehicles worldwide. Since LPG has a higher octane number and a lower maximum combustion temperature than gasoline , it becomes more popular fuel for reducing exhaust emissions. In tihs study, mathematical models of air intake and fuel delivery system are presented, and a PI-controller is designed for air-fuel ratio control. Hardware and software of an engine control module (ECM) are designed for an LPG engine. The ECM is built using a Motorola MC68HC05. In order to control the air-fuel ratio at stoichiometry, the PI-control algorithm is implemented in the ECM. The experiment results show the proto LPG ECM and its control scheme perform well to meet the stoichiometric air-duel ratio requirement.

Robust 2-D Object Recognition Using Bispectrum and LVQ Neural Classifier

  • This paper presents a translation, rotation and scale invariant methodology for the recognition of closed planar shape images using the bispectrum of a contour sequence and the learning vector quantization(LVQ) neural classifier. The contour sequences obtained from the closed planar images represent the Euclidean distance between the centroid and all boundary pixels of the shape, and are related to the overall shape of the images. The higher order spectra based on third order cumulants is applied to tihs contour sample to extract fifteen bispectral feature vectors for each planar image. There feature vector, which are invariant to shape translation, rotation and scale transformation, can be used to represent two0dimensional planar images and are fed into a neural network classifier. The LVQ architecture is chosen as a neural classifier because the network is easy and fast to train, the structure is relatively simple. The experimental recognition processes with eight different hapes of aircraft images are presented to illustrate the high performance of this proposed method even the target images are significantly corrupted by noise.

Study on the Anti-cancer, Anti-metastasis and Effects of Immune-response of Aqua-acupuncture with Cuscutae Semen Infusion Solution (토사자약침(兎絲子藥鍼)의 항암작용(抗癌作用) 및 면역효과(免疫效果)에 대(對)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究))

  • Objective : The objective of tihs study is to study the effects of anti-cancer, anti-metastasis and effects of immune-response of aqua-acupuncture with Cuscutae Semen infusion solution. Methods : We observed, in-vitro, the cytotoxicity and the effect on the expression of MMP-9 gene, and in-vivo, change of body weight, surviving number, MST, ILS, changes in amount of WBC, RBC, PLT, GOT, GPT, creatinine, glucose and LDH, number of Pulmonary colony. Results : 1. The effect on expression of MMP-9 gene was decreased in all the sample groups in B16-F10 cell line, and was decreased in Lane 1, 2, 3 in HT1080 cell, compared with control group. 2. BALB/c mice which was transpianted S-180 cancer cell line were inhibited significantly in weight increase, in all the sample groups, compared with control group. 3. The sample groups injected in vein with B16-F10 cancer cell line in C57BL/6 mice did'nt show significant change in the number of WBC, RBC, PLT. 4. In immune experiment, all the sample groups showed having more relevancy to the effect on splenic cell proliferation than normal groups. 5. $IFN-{\gamma}$ and $TNF-{\alpha}$ in cytokine-gene were increased in all the sample groups than control group. 6. In flow cytometry of spienic cell, the numbers of CD4+ cell, CD8+ cell and CD19+ cell in sample groups were increased than in control group. Conclusion : Above the results showed that aqua-acupuncture of Cuscutae Semen infusion solution has effects of anti-cancer, anti-metastasis and immune response improvement.
