  • This paper investigated a gate driver circuit with amorphous silicon for mobile TFT-LCD. In the conventional circuit, the fluctuation of the off-state voltage causes the fluctuation of gate line voltages in the panel and then image quality becomes worse. Newly designed gate driver circuit with dynamic switching inverter and carry out signal reduce the fluctuation of the off-state voltage because dynamic switching inverter is holding the off-state voltage and the delay of carry signal is reduced. The simulation results show that the proposed a-Si:H gate driver has low noise and high stability compared with the conventional one.

  • Recently, TFT LCD (thin film transistor liquid crystal display) manufacturing industry is more concerned with the ways of cleaning large TFT LCD´s with high pixed density than ever Ultrasonic cleaners with high frequencies like 1MHz (megasonic cleaners) are effective in removing very small particles without causing mechanical damage to the surface. In this study a megasonic cleaner for TFT LCD manufacturing process is developed and the performance is evaluated through experiments. The experimental results show that the developed magasonic cleaners is effective in removing very small particle from the LCD panel.

  • Recent progress of the in-plane switching (IPS) TFT-LCD technologies is reviewed. We call the improved new technology 'advanced super IPS TFT-LCD(AS-IPS)'. After suppressing the viewing angle dependency of essential display characteristics, recent brightness, viewing angle and motion picture quality has been highly improved. The stage is now introducing it into consumer information appliance for higher display performances, by which we could open a large size digital LCD TVs application.

  • Defects of TFT-LCD is detected by thresholding the difference image between the input image and template one because LCD panel has its inherent patterns. However, the pitch corresponding to pattern period is gradually changed according to the distance from the center of camera due to geometric distortion of camera characteristics. This paper presents a method to detect defects through comparing the pitch area with neighbor pitch areas where the perspective transform is performed with the extracted features to correct the distortion. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed method is very effective for real data.

  • Recently LG.Philips LCD (hereafter "LPL") has announced the development of the world's largest 100-inch TFT-LCD with Advanced Super IPS technology. This magnificent LCD achieves the feature of a full high definition resolution $1920{\times}1080(16:9)$, 600nit brightness, 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 92% color gamut, 180 degree viewing angle, and 5msec response time at all grays, targeted for HDTV and public display applications. Some unique technologies such as Cu bus line, advanced wide view polarizer, and high color gamut lamp were applied. A new stitching free technology was developed to overcome the size limitation of photo mask in both the TFT and CF processes. The size of the panel (100-inch) based on the wide format (16:9) is determined by the maximum efficiency of world's $1^{st}$ seventh generation line (glass size:$1950{\times}2250mm$) in LPL's Paju display cluster. In this paper, we will discuss the issues of 100-inch TFT-LCD.

  • TFT LCD industries have endeavored to adopt the piezo Drop-On-Demand (DOD) inkjet printing technology to production lines of TFT LCD color filters and these efforts have significantly been based on experimental works. Because the degree of complexity in the piezo DOD inkjet printing technology results in too many combination of parameters, the matrix experimental method to investigate all possible sets of parameters becomes ineffective and hence the basic understanding of the piezo Drop-On-Demand inkjet print technology becomes important. In this study, one possible cause of the droplet volume variation across nozzles, which might cause visible swathe marks on an inkjet patterned TFT LCD color filter, is theoretically investiaged and new R&D directions are suggested.

  • This paper investgates the transflective liquid crystal displays (LCDs) associated with fringe-field switching (FFS) mode to achieve high image quality. In the past, several cell structures were used to fabricate transflective FFS LCDs. Their structures and characteristics are carefully examined to find their merits and demerits. In addition, we attempt to optimize cell parameters to achieve a single driving circuit.

  • In recent days, large-sized flat-panel display (FPD) has been increasingly applied to computer monitors and TVs. Mura defects, appearing as low contrast or non-uniform brightness region, sometimes occur in manufacturing of the Thin-Film Transistor Liquid-Crystal Displays (TFT-LCD). Implementation of automatic Mura inspection methods is necessary for TFT-LCD production. Various existing Mura detection methods based on regression diagnostics, surface fitting and data transformation have been presented with good performance. This paper proposes an efficient Mura detection method that is based on a regression diagnostics using studentized residuals for automatic Mura inspection of FPD. The input image is estimated by a linear model and then the studentized residuals are calculated for filtering Mura regions. After image dilation, the proposed threshold is determined for detecting the non-uniform brightness region in TFT-LCD by means of monitoring the every pixel in the image. The experimental results obtained from several test images are used to illustrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method for Mura detection.

  • In this paper, we propose a new image processing technique that reliably detects the various defects of TFT-LCD polarizing films. The image of polarizing film is acquisited from reflected laser beam First, we apply the morphological image processing technique to remove the background noise. Next, we use the 2-dimensional LMS adaptive filtering and statistical characteristics to detect the white and black defects. Performance of the proposed method is evaluated on real TFT-LCD polarizing film samples.

  • This paper presents the efficient plan for the EMI improvement from of TFT-LCD Module. It investigates the frequency characteristics of Power/Ground Plane of TFT-LCD drive circuit PCB concretely. After the frequency characteristics is reviewed, EMI improvement is tried to insert to RC termination between Power/Ground Plane and to shift resonance frequency. It is confirmed by a simulation result and RC Termination which is inserted the point where the resonance characteristics change is necessary. It applied in 19 "SXGA TFT-LCD drive circuits and the EMI improvement verification is described.
