Interspecific Hybridization of the Korean Native Bumblebee Bombus hypocrita sapporoensia and the European Bumblebee B. terrestris

  • The large bumblebee $Bombus$ $terrestris$, indigenous to Europe and adjacent areas and used extensively for high-value crop pollination, has been artificially introduced to several parts of the world. Here we show the occurrence of interspecific hybridization between the bumblebee species $B.$ $hypocrita$ $sapporoensia$ and $B.$ $terrestris$ under laboratory conditions. The mating and oviposition percentages resulting from the interspecific hybridization of a $B.$ $terrestris$ queen with a $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$ male were higher than those resulting from the intraspecific mating of $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$. Furthermore, a competitive copulation experiment indicated that the mating of $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$ males with $B.$ $terrestris$ queens was 1.2-fold more frequent than the mating of these males with $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$ queens. The interspecific hybridization of a $B.$ $terrestris$ queen with a $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$ male produced either $B.$ $terrestris$ workers or the $B.$ $terrestris$ male phenotype, and the hybridization of a $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$ queen with a $B.$ $terrestris$ male produced $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$ males. Our results indicated that interspecific hybridization occurred between $B.$ $h.$ $sapporoensis$ and $B.$ $terrestris$. These results suggest that such hybridization will have a negative competitive impact and will cause genetic contamination of native bumblebees.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the nature of nursing and life style of nurses. This study was conducted from march, 1994 to May, 1995. There are two kinds of data used in this research. To discern the nature of nursing and life style of nurses, 34 articles selected from nursing journals and text books, and the data which were collected by unstructured questionare with two main open ended questions were analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's method. The questions were "what is nature of nursing?" "When do you feel your professionl life worth?" 29 participants were nurses working at two university hospitals and two general hospitals in Seoul, understood the study purpose. The results were as follows : (1) The nursing is evolving phenomenon which is developed, and changed. (1) ${\lceil}$encounter${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$trust${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$interrelationship${\rfloor}$have been identified as the causal condition of nursing phenomenon. (2) ${\lceil}$concern${\rfloor}$has been identified as the central phenomenon of nursing. (3) ${\lceil}$humanity${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$sincerity${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$nursing spirit${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$empathy${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$understanding${\rfloor}$have been identified as intervening condition and context of nursing phenomenon. (4) ${\lceil}$helping behavior${\rfloor}$has been identified as action/strategy of nursing phenomenon. (5) ${\lceil}$caring${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$observation${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$comfort${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$problem solving${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$co-ordination${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$education${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$stimulus${\rfloor}$have been as helping behavior. (6) ${\lceil}$change${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$growth and development${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$to do by oneself${\rfloor}$ have been as consequences of nursing phenomenon. (2) the nature of nursing have been classified into five properties ; ${\lceil}$relational property${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$moral property${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$technological property${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$behavioral property${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$objective property${\rfloor}$ (3) The life style of nurses is not considered as ${\lceil}$to have${\rfloor}$ living mode, but ${\lceil}$to be${\rfloor}$ living mode because the professional life of nurses is chracterized by ${\lceil}$encounter${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$trust${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$humanity${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$understanding${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$concern${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$togetherness with human being${\rfloor}$ ${\lceil}$growth and development${\rfloor}$ and others, which are properties of the nature of nursing, and are also considered as esential factors of real existence of professional nurse as a human being in nursing situation.

  • Effects of anodization voltage on frequency characteristics of anodic oxide films on tantalum were analyzed based on the following impedance equatious : (equation omitted) Here $R_{f}$, $C_{f}$ and tan $\delta$$_{f}$ are equivalent series resistance in ohm, equivalent Belies capacitance in farad and dielectric loss, of anodic oxide films respectively Parameters P, $\tau$$_{ο}$, $\tau$$_{\omega}$, and Co are defined as follows: P=(d-w)/w, $\tau$$_{ο}$=$textsc{k}$$\rho$$_{ο}$, $\tau$$_{\omega}$=$textsc{k}$$\rho$$_{\omega}$, $C_{ο}$=$textsc{k}$A/d where d is the thickness of oxide film, $\omega$ is the diffusion layer thickness. $\rho$$_{ο}$ is the resistivity of oxide film at the interface of metal and the oxide, $\rho$$_{\omega}$ is the resistivity of oxide film at intrinsic region and A is the area of the film and $textsc{k}$=0.0885$\times$10$^{-12}$ $\times$dielectric constant, (in farad/cm). It was shown that dielectric loss and frequency dependence of equivalent series capacitance decrease as anodization voltage increases. This is a consequence of the fact that the thickness of diffusion layer increases a little with increasing anodization voltage whereas the total oxide thickness is proportional to the anodization voltage. The ngative deviation of measured values from tile relation, tan $\delta$$_{f}$=0.682 $\Delta$ $C_{f}$, was also discussed based on the Impedance equations given above. Here $\Delta$ $C_{f}$ is the change in capacitance between 0.1 and 1 KHZ.KHZ.Z.

  • The new green and red phosphors for PDP application activated by T $b^{3+}$ and E $u^{3+}$ were synthesized, and their photoluminance properties were investigated. It was found that the brightness of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ green phosphor under 147nm VUV irradiation was higher than that of commercial Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$ phosphor. But the emitting intensity of A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ red phosphor was inferior to the commercial (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$. $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ Phosphor had a strong excitation band at 160nm associated with the host absorption, and also the photoluminance excitation intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ was higher than that of Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$, but the intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ phosphor was smaller than (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$ phosphor In the VUV range. C $e^{3+}$ co-doping in A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ and substitution of $Al^{3+}$ by G $a^{3+}$ A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ phosphor were tried, but they did not improved the optical property .d the optical property .ty .

암모늄 우라닐 나이트레이트의 열분해 및 환원반응

  • 본 연구는 MDD(modified direct denitration)공정의 주 우라늄염인 암노늄 우라닐 나이트레이트의 화학특성을 밝히고 이들 화합물의 열분해 및 환원반응의 반응기구에 대하여 조사되었다. 암모늄 우라닐 나이트레이트는 제조 조건에 따라 N $H_4$$UO_2$N $O_3$와 (N $H_4$)$_2$$UO_2$(N $O_3$)$_4$.2$H_2O$의 두가지 형태의 복염으로 존재함이 화학 및 원소분석, X산 회절 분석, 그리고 적외선 분광분석에 의하여 확인되었다. 암모늄 우라닐 나이트레이트는 질소분위기에서 N $H_4$$UO_2$(N $O_3$)$_3$$\longrightarrow$ Amorphous $UO_3$$\longrightarrow$ a-$UO_3$$\longrightarrow$ U$_3$ $O_{8}$$\longrightarrow$ $\alpha$-U$_3$ $O_{8}$의 경로를 따라서 열분해 되며, 수소분위기에서는 N $H_4$$UO_2$(N $O_3$)$_3$$\longrightarrow$ $UO_3$$\longrightarrow$ U$_3$ $O_{8}$$\longrightarrow$ U$_4$ $O_{9}$ $\longrightarrow$ $UO_2$의 경로로 환원되었다.

  • In this paper, we establish a number system in $R^n$ which arises from a Haar wavelet basis in connection with decompositions of certain Cuntz algebra representations on $L^2$( $R^n$). Number systems in $R^n$ are also of independent interest [9]. We study radix-representations of $\chi$ $\in$ $R^n$: $\chi$:$\alpha$$_{ι}$ $\alpha$$_{ι-1}$$\alpha$$_1$$\alpha$$_{0}$$\alpha$$_{-1}$ $\alpha$$_{-2}$ … as $\chi$= $M^{ι}$$\alpha$$_{ι}$ $\alpha$+…M$\alpha$$_1$$\alpha$$_{0}$$M^{-1}$ $\alpha$$_{-1}$$M^{-2}$ $\alpha$$_{-2}$ +… where each $\alpha$$_{k}$ $\in$ D, and D is some specified digit set. Our analysis uses iteration techniques of a number-theoretic flavor. The view-point is a dual one which we term fractals in the large vs. fractals in the small,illustrating the number theory of integral lattice points vs. fractions.s vs. fractions.

Distribution of Microorganisms in the Marine Ranching Ground of Tongyong Coastal Waters (통영 연안 해역에서의 미생물 분포)

  • Surface and bottom water samples were collected from 10 stations located in the coastal area of Tongyong in April, August and October 2000. Distribution of heterotrophic bacteria, coliform bacteria and fungi in the sea water samples was investigated by measuring the corresponding viable cell number according to the plate counting method. Heterotrophic bacteria in the surface water counted 3.1$\times$10$^2$- 4.0$\times$10$^3$cfu ml$\^$-1/, 2.7$\times$10$^3$- 1.2$\times$10$\^$5/cfu ml$\^$-1/ and 1.3$\times$10$^2$- 7.2$\times$10$^2$cfu ml$\^$-1/ in April, August and October, respectively. The cell number of coliform bacteria in the surface water amounted to 0-1.5$\times$10$^1$cfu ml$\^$-1/, 3.5$\times$10$^1$- 5.2$\times$10$^3$cfu ml$\^$-1/ and 0-1.8$\times$10$^2$cfu ml$\^$-1/ in April, August and October, respectively. As for fungi, the cell number in the surface water was 0-3.0$\times$10$^1$propagules ml$\^$-1/, 3.0$\times$10$^1$- 8.0$\times$10$^1$ propagules ml$\^$-1/ and 0-2.2$\times$10$^1$ propagules ml$\^$-1/ in April, August and October respectively. The surface water samples from the station 3 in August were added with feed stuffs for fish as much as 0.01 gl$\^$-1/, 0.1 gl$\^$-1/ and 1 gl$\^$-1/ and cultured at 5$\^{C}$, 15$\^{C}$, 25$\^{C}$ and 35$\^{C}$. Microbial cells were not isolated at all when the culturing temperature was 5$\^{C}$. However, the microbial cell number increased significantly in all the surface water samples containing 1 gl$\^$-1/ of the feed stuffs when cultured at 15$\^{C}$, 25$\^{C}$ and 35$\^{C}$

  • The binding characteristics of five cephalosporins, cefamandole, ceftriaxone, cefoxitin, latamoxef, and cefotetan to bovine serum albumin (BSA) was examined by UV difference spectrophotometry. 2-(4'-hydroxybenzeneazo) benzoic acid was used as the spectrophotometric probe. Competitive bindings between the probe and cephalosporins were observed. Based on the Scatchard plot, the BSA appeared to have two classes of binding sites in BSA binding with cephalosporins. The number of primary binding sites appears to be one, secondary binding sites appears to be three. The binding constants were found as follows: BSA-HBAB; $K_1^{obs}$=8.39$\times$$10^4$ $M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=1.60$\times$$10^4$ $M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefamandole; $K_1^{obs}$=5.44$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=0.74$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefotriaxone; $K_1^{obs}$=6.78$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=0.88$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefoxitin; $K_1^{obs}$=7.24$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=1.13$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, BSA-Latamoxef; $K_1^{obs}$=8.87$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=1.92$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefotetan; $K_1^{obs}$=15.41$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=2.7$\times$$10^3$ $M^{-1}$.

Effects of Dietary Supplementation of Lysine Cell Mass (LCM) in Juvenile Israeli Carp, Cyprinus carpio (치어기 잉어에 있어 사료내 Lysine 부산물의 첨가효과)

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the lysine cell mass (LCM) as a dietary fish meal (EM) protein replacer in juvenile Israeli carp, Cyprinus carpio. Fishmeal, a major animal protein source in the control diet, was replaced by tCM on the protein equivalent base, Fish averaging 1,7 $\pm$ 0.1 g (Mean $\pm$ SD) fed one of nine diets containing isonitrogenous and isocaloric basis of $38\%$ crude protein and 15.2 kJ available energy/g diet: control, $100\%$ $FM; LCM_20$, $80\%$ $FM+20\%$ $LCM; LCM_40$, $60\%$ $FM+40\%$ $LCM; LCM_60$, $40\%$ $FM+60\%$ $LCM; LCM_100$, $100\%$ $LCM; LCM_20$l, $80\%$ $FM+20\%$ $LCM+0.07\%$ $Lysine; LCM_40$l, $60\%$ $FM+40\%$ $LCM+0.14\%$ $Lysine; LCM_60$l $40\%$ $FM+60\%$ $LCM+0.22\%$ Lysine; LCM_100l, $100\%$ LCM+$0.35\% Lysine. After 6 weeks of feeding trial there was no significant difference in weight gain (WG), feed efficiency (FE), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and specific growth rate (SGR) among fish fed control and $LCM_20$ (P>0.05), while fish fed $LCM_40,\;LCM_60,\;LCM_100,\;LCM_40l,\;LCM_60l\;and\;LCM_100l$ diets had a significantly lower WG, FE, PER and SGR than did fish fed control diet (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in WG, PER and SGR among fish fed control and $LCM_20$l diets (P>0.05), while fish fed $LCM_20$l S had a significantly lower FE than did fish fed control diet (P<0.05). No significant difference was observed in hematocrit and condition facto, among fish fed nine diets (P>0.05). Therefore, these results indicated that LCM could replace FM up to $20\%$ and dietary synthetic lysine supplementation did not show any positive growth effects in juvenile Israeli carp.

Analysis of Genetic Polymorphism by Bloodtyping in Jeju Horse (혈액형에 의한 제주말의 유전적 다형성 분석)

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the blood markers of Jeju horses. The redcell cypes (blood groups) and blood protein types (biochemical polymorphisms) were tested from 102 Jeju horses by serological and electrophoretc procedure, and their phenotypes and gene frequencies were estimated. The blood group and biochemical polymorphism phenotypes observed with high frequency were $A^{af}\;(27.45\%$), $C^{a}\;(99.02\%$), $K^{-}\;(97.06\%$), $U^{a}\;(62.75\%$), $P^{b}\;(36.27\%$), $Q^{c}\;(47.06\%$), $D^{cgm/dghm}\;(13.73\%$), $D^{adn/cgm}\;(9.80\%$), $D^{ad/cgm}$\;(8.82\%$), $D^{dghm/dghm}(7.84\%$), $D^{cgm/cgm}(7.84\%$), $AL^{B}\;(48.04\%$), $GC^{F}\;(99.02\%$), $AlB^{K}\;(97.06\%$), $ES^{FI}\;(36.27\%$), $TF^{F2}\;(25.49\%$), $HB^{B1}\;(45.10\%$), and $PGD^{F}\;(86.27\%$) in Jeju horses, respectively. Alleles observed with high gene frequency were $A^{af}$ (0.3726), $A^{C}$ (0.2647), $C^{-}$ (0.5050), $K^{-}$ (0.9853), $U^{-}$ (0.6863), $P^{b}$ (0.4657), $Q^{c}$ (0.5294), $D^{cgm}$ (0.3039), $HB^{B1}$(0.6863), $PGD^{F}$ (0.9265), $AL^{B}$ (0.6912), $ALB^{K}$ (0.9852), $GC^{F}$ (0.9950), $ES^{I}$ (0.5000) and $TF^{F2}$ (0.4950) in Jeju horses, and sfecific alleles, $D^{cgm(f)}$ (0.0196), $HB^{A}$ (0.0147), $HB^{A2}$ (0.0196), $ES^{G}$ (0.0441), $ES^{H}$ (0.0098), $TF^{E}$TF'(0.0246), $TF^{H2}$ (0.0049) and $PGD^{D}$ (0.0098) were detected in Jeju horses. These preliminary results present basic information for detecting the genetic markers in Jeju horse. and developing a system for parentage verification and individuals identification in jeju horses.
