  • This paper investigates announcement effects of the outward foreign direct investment (FDI) projects of the Korean multinational companies. Although the FDI is considered corporate activity that can provide various benefits beyond financial resources, the most previous research focused on macro analysis such as country-level and industry-level analysis instead of the firm-level study, which is required to decide the investment project from a management perspective. Thus, this study examines the relationship between the outward FDI activities of the Korean corporations and their financial performance to fill the gap in this area.

  • Inactivation of N-type calcium current has been reported to be voltage dependent (Jones & Marks, 1989) and $Ca^{2+}$ dependent(Cox & Dunlap, 1994). We examined inactivation by recording currents from the same cell both in [B $a^{2+}$]$_{o}$ and [C $a^{2+}$]$_{o}$ in rat sympathetic neurons. With 11 mM internal EGTA, fractional inactivation[l-(current amplitude at the end of 5 sec pulse/peak current amplitude [1-(current amplitude at the end of 5 sec pulse/peak current amplitude)] was larger in $Ca^{2+}$(0.80$\pm$0.07) than in $Ba^{2+}$(0.69$\pm$0.10)(n=31, p<0.001), but the current traces were nicely fitted with two exponential components both in $Ba^{2+}$ and $Ca^{2+}$.(omitted)ted)ted)

  • The morphology of etch pits in commercial 4H-SiC epi-wafer were investigated by molten-KOH etching. The etching process was optimized in $525{\sim}570^{\circ}C$ at 2~10 min and the novel type of etch pits was revealed. This type of etch pits have been considered as TED (threading edge dislocation) II, its origin and nature, however, are not reported yet. In this work, the morphology and evolution of etch pits during epitaxial growth were analyzed and the different behavior between TED and TEDII was discussed.

  • Generally, container carrier has larger engine than other commercial vessels and the engine casing is located in accommodation space. Therefore, the noise levels of cabins and engine room could be exceeded the specified noise limits and might be an annoyance to crews, and which can result in poor ship quality. Main subject of this study is to predict noise levels of the 4,500 TED container carrier by statistical energy analysis method in order to comply with contracted noise limits and to compare with the measured values. Additionally, through the contribution analysis of noise sources to each cabins, and appropriate countermeasures are proposed and the reduction effect of each noise control measure is studied by the analysis method. This study will contribute to reduce the noise levels of similar vessel.

  • The heat temperature of a light emitting diode (LED) is investigated with the thermoelectric device (TED). The Peltier effect of the thermoelectric device is used to control the heat radiation and the junction temperature of high-power LEDs. For the typical specific current (350 mA) of high-power (1 W) LEDs, the LED temperature and the p-n junction temperature become $64.5^{\circ}C$ and $79.1^{\circ}C$, respectively. For 0.1~0.2 W driving power of TED, the LED temperature and the junction temperature are reduced to be $54.2^{\circ}C$ and $68.9^{\circ}C$, respectively. As the driving power of the TED increases over 0.2 W, the temperature of LED itself and the junction temperature are increased due to the heat reversed from the heat-sink to LED. As the difference of temperature between LED and the heat-sink is increased, the quantity of reversed heat becomes larger and it results to degrade the cooling capability of TED.
