Recently, the use of TCP/IP protocols over wireless LANs poses significant problems. In this paper, we have analyzed transmission control protocol (TCP) packet transmission time for mobile IP over wireless local area networks (LANs) using a proposed a new random backoff scheme. We call it as a proxy backoff scheme. It is considered the transmission time of TCP packet on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. From the results, a proposed proxy backoff scheme produces a better performance than an original random backoff in mobile IP over wireless LANs environment. Also, in OFDM/quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) medium access control (MAC), we have obtained that the transmission time in wireless channel decreases as the TCP packet size increases.

In this paper, we described the software development for verifying the integrity of output data of TCP/IP for VLBI Correlation Subsystem (VCS) correlation block and proposed the performance improvement method in order to prevent the data loss of correlation output. The VCS correlation results are saved at the Data Archive system through TCP/IP packet transmission. In this paper, the integrity verification software is developed so as to confirm the integrity of correlation result saved at the data archive system using TCP/IP packet information of VCS. The 3-step integrity verification process is proposed by using the developed software, its effectiveness was confirmed in consequence of correlation experiments. In addition, TCP/IP packet transmission must be completed within minimum integration period. However, there is not only TCP/IP packet loss occurred but also the problem of correlation result integrity affected in account of a large quantity of packets and data during short integration time. In this paper, the reason of TCP/IP packet loss is analyzed and the modified methods for FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) of VCS are proposed, the integrity problem of correlation results will be solved.
Stream Control Transmission Protocol(SCTP) is a new transport protocol that is known to provide improved performance than Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) in multi-homing environment that is having two and more IP addresses. But currently single-homed computer is used primarily that is having one IP address. To identify whether mean transfer time for SCTP is faster that for TCP in single-homed environment considering packet loss, we make up real testbed regulating the bandwidth, delay time and packet loss rate on router and observe the transfer time. We write server and client applications to measure SCTP and TCP mean transfer time by C language. Analysis of these experimental results from the testbed implementation shows that mean transfer time of SCTP is not better than performance of TCP in single homed environment exceptional case. Main reasons of performance are that SCTP compared to TCP stops transmitting data by timeout and data transmission is often delayed when SACK congestion happens. The result of study shows that elaborate performance tuning is required in developing a new SCTP module or using a implemented SCTP module.

To prevent performance degradation of TCP due to packet losses in the smooth handoff by the route optimization extension of Mobile IP protocol, a buffering of packets at a base station is needed. A buffering of packets at a base station recovers those packets dropped during handoff by forwarding buffered packets at the old base station to the mobile user. But, when the mobile user moves to a congested base station in a new foreign subnetwork, those buffered packets forwarded by the old base station are dropped and TCP transmission performance of a mobile user in the congested base station degrades due to increased congestion by those forwarded burst packets. In this paper, considering the general case that a mobile user moves to a congested base station, we propose a Priority Packet Forwarding to improve TCP performance in mobile networks. In the proposed scheme, without modification to Mobile IP protocol, the old base station marks a buffered packet as a priority packet during handoff. And priority queue at the new congested base station schedules the priority packet firstly. Simulation results show that proposed Priority Packet Forwarding can improve TCP transmission performance more than Implicit Priority Packet Forwarding and RED (Random Early Detection) schemes.

Performance of TCP can be severely degraded in Mobile IP-based wireless networks where packet losses not related to network congestion occur frequently during inter-subnetwork handoffs by user mobility. To solve such a problem in the networks using Mobile IP, the packet buffering method at a base station(BS) recovers those packets dropped during handoff by forwarding the buffered packets at the old BS to the mobile users. But, when the mobile user moves to a congested BS in a new foreign subnetwork, those buffered packets forwarded by the old BS are dropped and TCP transmission performance of a mobile user degrades severely. In this paper, we propose a Modified BLUE(MBLUE) buffer required at a BS to increase TCP throughput in Mobile IP-based networks. When a queue length exceed a threshold and congestion grows, MBLUE increases its packet drop probability. But, when a TCP connection is added at new BS by a handoff, the old BS marks the buffered packets. And new BS receives the marked packets without dropping. Simulation results show that MBLUE buffer reduces congestion during handoffs and increases TCP throughputs.

This paper presents some studies on the Internet TCP/IP(Transmission Control Protocol-Internet Protocol) traffic over ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) UBR(Unspecified Bit Rate) and ABR(Available Bit Rate) classes of service. Fuzzy logic prediction has been used to improve the efficiency and fairness of traffic throughput. For TCP/IP over UBR, a novel fuzzy logic based cell dropping scheme is presented. This is referred to as fuzzy logic selective cell drop (FSCD). A key feature of the scheme is its ability to accept or drop a new incoming packet dynamically based on the predicted future buffer condition in the switch. This is achieved by using fuzzy logic prediction for the production of a drop factor. Packet dropping decision is then based on this drop factor and a predefined threshold value. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly improves TCP/IP efficiency and fairness. To study TCP/IP over ABR, we applied the fuzzy logic ABR service buffer management scheme from our previous work to both approximate and exact fair rate computation ER(Explicit cell Rate) switch algorithms. We then compared the performance of the fuzzy logic control with conventional schemes. Simulation results show that on zero TCP packet loss, the fuzzy logic control scheme achieves maximum efficiency and perfect fairness with a smaller buffer size. When mixed with VBR traffic, the fuzzy logic control scheme achieves higher efficiency with lower cell loss.
While Ethernet and TCP/IP are the most widely used protocol, for Real-time system, it is not applicable because it doesn't guarantee the deterministic transmission time. Furthermore, the TCP acknowledgement scheme and sliding window algorithm enforce to collide packets. Although various Collision-Free CSMA protocol was presented, it is very difficult to implement in well known OS(UNIX, WilidowsNT) because we have to modify network kernel. This paper presents another transmission protocol based on modified UDP. The colliding probability can be minimized by avoiding successive packet transmission and decreasing competition duration. The proposed algorithm can be used for the soft real-time industrial automation network.
Multicast protocols are efficient methods of group communication such as video conference, Internet broadcasting and On-Line Game, but they do not support the various transmission protocol services like a reliability guarantee, FTP, or Telnet that TCPs do. The Purpose or this Paper is to find a method to utilize multicast routers can simultaneously transport multicast packets and TCP packets. For multicast network scalability and error recovery the existing SRM(Scalable Reliable Multicast)method has been used. Three packets per TCP transmission control window site are used for transport and an ACK is used for flow control. A CBR(Constant Bit Rate) and a SRM is used for UDP traffic control. Divided on whether a UDP multicast packet and TCP unicast packet is used simultaneously or only a UDP multicast packet transport is used, the multicast receiver with the longest delay is measured on the number of packets and its data receiving rate. It can be seen that the UDP packet and the TCP's IP packet can be simultaneously used in a server router.
