순수 폴리올레핀 소재용 청록색 염료의 합성 (Synthesis of Bluish-green Dyes for Pure Polyolefin Fibers)

  • The 6 novel super hydrophobic bluish-green dyes, showing the maximum absorption at 600~650nm, were synthesized to dye polyolefin fibers such as polypropylene and high strength polyethylene fibers. Their absorption spectra appeared almost the same at visible range, which meant the length of alkyl substituents did not affect on color appearance of the dyes. The optimum length of alkyl group was determined as hexyl substituents from the practical point of view. From the dyeing results, the optimum dyeing condition was $130^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The good fastness ratings to washing, rubbing were obtained showing 4-5 for both fibers. Light fastness was obtained also good rating 4 for both fibers.

m-Aramid Films in Diverse Coagulants

  • m-Aramid dissolved in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), were coagulated in different coagulants such as water, methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol. Various concentrations and temperatures of the coagulants were also used to evaluate dyeing properties of coagulated m-aramid films. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was employed to investigate the surface morphology of m-aramid films. Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) was conducted in order to measure crystallinity change of mcaramid fibers and films. WAXD patterns showed that crystallinity of m-aramid fibers was reduced after film formation. In addition, color depth (K/S value) was measured and the results revealed that the film coagulated in water possessed fairly enhanced color depth.

N-Halamine을 이용한 항균 멤브레인의 특성 (Properties of Antimicrobial Membrane Using an N-Halamine Material)

  • N-Halamines are compounds which have covalent bonding between nitrogen and halogen. N-Halamine materials possess strong antimicrobial properties against wide spectrum of bacteria. The aim of this study is to prepare N-halamine membranes using m-aramid and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). Surface characteristics using scanning electron microscope (SEM), pore size distribution, liquid permeability and mean pore size were measured to confirm feasibility as membrane. The results indicated that increased PYA portion up to 15% in the m-aramid/PVA blend resulted in improved pore size distribution, liquid permeability as well as mean pore size. Furthermore, antibacterial efficacy of the membranes after chlorination was confirmed and the results showed that bacteria in water were inactivated.

  • In order to establish the standard manufacturing condition of PET flame retardant sheets, physicochetnical properties of the samples made by the conventional flame-retardant finishing were systematically investigated, including compatibility among flame retardant agent and finishing auxiliaries, surface property, and wicking property. From this results, the addition of washing and renapping process after the shearing process was required for the more effective in producing PET flame-retardant sheet by the standard finishing. The effect of the modification of the regular flame retardant finishing process was studied by FTIR, TGA, and flame retardancy test.

Synthesis and Optical Properties of Novel Chemosensor Based on Rhodamine 6G

  • The opto-functional materials have been developed as a promising research topic toward the end uses for optical materials and applications. The attractive area in this part was the design of sensor molecules for detecting harmful environmental factors. These harmful factors impart undesired effects on wide range of chemical and biological phenomenon. In this context, many researchers have studied luminescence chemosensor materials. These sensor molecules showed optical signals such as color or fluorescence change by detecting harmful environmental factors. In this study, the novel fluorescence chemosensor 1 has been designed and synthesized through reaction of rhodamine 6g hydrazide and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde. The chemosensor 1 had been analyzed by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrophotometer. We found that this chemosensor 1 has 'off-on' and dual type sensing properties toward $Cu^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$.

Interaction between Poly(vinylpyrrolidone) and Ionic Dyes in Aqueous Solution System (I)

  • The binding isotherms of ionic dyes with Poly(vinylpyrrolidone) in aqueous solution were determined by the dynamic dialysis technique. The shape of the isotherms of cationic dye, C. I. Basic Red 18 with poly(vinlypyrrolidone) showed a partition type. It suggests that the binding involves a non-cooperative mode. Isotherms of an anion dye, a synthesized dye by coupling of diazotized m-trifluoromethylaniline with 2-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid, were sigmoid type and showed multimode interaction. The results were interpreted by the McGhee von Hippel theory. The thermodynamic parameters for the complex formation of the dyes-polymer were calculated from their temperature dependences of the intrinsic binding constant.

  • A new monoazo violet dye optimized for polyolefin fibers such as polypropylene and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fibers was synthesized and its dyeability was investigated. Two hexyl groups were introduced to coupler, 2,5-dimethoxyaniline, in order to increase hydrophobicity of the dye. The maximum absorption wavelength was appeared at 580nm, which meant that the dye showed violet color. From the dyeing results at various conditions, the optimum dyeing was determined as $130^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour with 5% owf of dyes. The good fastness ratings to washing, rubbing were obtained showing at least 4 for both fibers. Light fastness was acceptable for polypropylene fibers giving ratings 3~4. However, relatively poor light fastness was obtained in case of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fibers showing ratings 2.

  • The flexible transparent conducting films (TCFs) are required to realize flexible optoelectronic devices. 1D nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), metal nanowires are good candidates to replace indium tin oxide that is currently used to fabricate transparent electrode. Particularly, silver nanowires are used to produce flexible TCFs. In this review, we introduce TCF technologies based on silver nanowires/CNTs hybrid structures. CNTs can compromise drawbacks of silver nanowires for applications in high performance TCFs for optoelectronic devices.

탈색 시술 시 미스트 사용 여부에 따른 모발의 변화 (Hair Changes with the Use of Mist during Hair Bleaching)

  • This study reduced the number of hair bleachings and used a hair steamer machine to reduce hair damage during hair coloring. In addition, such treatment was given, focusing on the use of hair mist. When the $L^{\ast}a^{\ast}b^{\ast}$ values for bleached hair were measured using a spectrum colorimeter, the mist steamer-based hair revealed higher brightness. Hair damage was low when moisture contents were high after hair drying with the use of the mist steamer machine. The mist treatment-less hair showed more blurred cuticle boundaries than mist-treated hair. In other words, this confirms that cuticles are protected by the use of a mist steamer machine during hair bleaching. It appears that this could minimize hair loss and meet clients' aesthetic needs and satisfaction during color bleaching/coloring.

차조기 추출물의 면직물에 대한 염색성과 항균기능성 평가 (The Dyeing Properties and Antibacterial Function of Perilla frutescens var. acuta Extract on Cotton)

  • This study investigated the proper dyeing conditions, fastness and functionality of cotton fabrics dyed with Perilla frutescens var. acuta extract. Repeat dyeing, combination dyeing of persimmon juice and fermentation dyeing were conducted as dyeing conditions. It was confirmed that the ΔE and the K/S value of cotton fabrics dyed with Perilla frutescens var. acuta extracts depending on repeat dyeing and combination dyeing slightly increased. Furthermore, the fastness to washing of persimmon combination dyeing and fermentation dyeing was very good. The fastness to rubbing was shown to be above grade 4 in all methods, and the fastness to light was not as good as grade 3 or lower. The persimmon juice dyeing, Perilla frutescens var. acuta extract repeat dyeing 4 times and combination fermentation dyeing showed very good antimicrobial abilities. Thereafter, additional studies are needed to improve the fastness to light and alternatives to further improve the dyeing properties.
