Stimulatory Effects of Extracts of Inner Bark from Tabebuia avellanedae on Exercise Endurance Capacity (Tabebuia avellanedae 추출물의 운동능력 향상 효과)

  • The effects of Tabebuia avellanedae (Taheebo) on exercise endurance capacity were investigated using mice in an adjustable-current water pool. Compared to the control group, a 1.8~2.0 fold increase in swimming time was observed in mice administered hot water extract (TAW) and 80% ethanol extract (TAE) of inner bark from T. avellanedae. Blood lactate level, an important fatigue relevance factor, was significantly lower in the TAW and TAE groups than in the control group. The total phenolic contents of TAW and TAE were $93.3{\pm}1.6$ and $115.7{\pm}1.5mgGAE/g$, respectively. The levels of flavonoids in the extracts were $77.3{\pm}1.3$ and $95.9{\pm}1.7mgCE/g$, respectively. Higher antioxidant activities of TAE were observed in each assay at the same concentration as compared to TAW. Correlation between antioxidant activities of TAE with total polyphenol contents was observed. These results suggest that extracts of Taheebo increase exercise endurance capacity by elevating antioxidative potentials.

  • Today, the sports teams are in a highly competitive environment where they don't know what may happen in the near future. While the front-runner teams suffer a serious slump, the teams in lower ladder stacks victories. This recent phenomenon proves that no team can secure the sustainable competitive edge over others. This is the time when a complete change of the mindset about the short-term competitive edge is needed. Therefore, we conducted the case study to the short-term competitive edges by selecting OK Savings Bank Rush & Cash volleyball team(hereafter referred to as OK Savings Bank). Thus, we presented the Transient Advantage Wave which describes the five stages of Initiating-Promotion-Utilization-Reconstruction-Withdrawal as a framework for the case study. Finally, we organized the results of the analysis and based on this result, we discussed the significance and the limitation of the short-term competitive edge that the sports team should pursue. This study contributed to the changes in strategies & tactics of various sports teams by suggesting the new strategy called short-term competitive edges that teams should utilize in order to get the best results in the sports league that has the strong quality of Time-based system.

Extracts from Rhizopus oryzae KSD-815 of Korean Traditional Nuruk Confer the Potential to Inhibit Hypertension, Platelet Aggregation, and Cancer Metastasis in vitro

  • Rhizopus oryzae KSD-815 was isolated from nuruk that has been used to make Korean traditional wines. This study was performed to investigate the effect of cultures of R. oryzae KSD-815 on cardiovascular disorders and cancer metastasis. Firstly, these cultures were sequentially fractionationed with n-hexane (TAHe), ethylacetate (TAE), n-butanol (TAB), and $H_2O$ (TAW). The TAE inhibited the activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and TAB suppressed platelet aggregation in vitro. TAE and TAB inhibited cell motility of human breast cancer cells. Furthermore, TAW interrupted the formation of neovasculature and tube-like structure, and down-regulated the expression of angiogenic factors, basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$ (TNF-$\alpha$), and hypoxia-inducible factor-$1{\alpha}$ (HIF-$1{\alpha}$) in breast cancer cells. These results indicated that cultures of R. oryzae KSD-815 display the inhibitory activities on hypertension, platelet aggregation, and metastasis, and suggest that these cultures might be further probed for the purposes as therapeutic agents or dietary supplements.

  • A role of Distribution Automation System(DAS) is required to be changed from observing and control to complex and various new system including functions which monitoring, control, prediction, operation and management of EMS type according to be gradually Smart Grid of distribution operation system for development of further power system industrial. IEC(International Electrotechnical Commission) published communication standards which interface and data model of distribution operation system to IEC 61968 and of host system like EMS(Energy Management System) to IEC 61970. So far, each standards are emphasizing themselves, but if they are applied by designed integration of the standards, it could be more efficiency system. So, in this paper, integration application of IEC standards and structure of further distribution operation system to use them are proposed by gradually increasing importance of communication protocols, functions and roles in further distribution management system considering Smart Grid.

  • In this paper, problems and solutions are proposed for applying IEC 61850 to Distribution Automation System(DAS). Communication protocol integration in power automation system have issued by IEC standards, IEC 61850 of them has researched for applying IEC 61850 to many areas of power system in spite of that it was made for substation automation system. Especially, DAS is just about to apply IEC 61850 by communication network change from serial to ethernet although DNP 3.0 is used. But it's impossible to apply directly IEC 61850 to DAS by difference of environment which unfixed wide area and separated nodes in power distribution system unlike concept of IEC 61850 is made by Substation Automation System(SAS) environment of limited space. Thus, this paper proposed applications of three types which conceptual, practical, and future to consider problems and solutions when apply IEC 61850 to Ethernet based DAS.

  • In the dynamic analysis of a mechanism, if one or more of the components are flexible, then the simulation will not be accurate because of the violation of the rigid body assumption. Mode shapes are used to represent the dynamic behavior of an elastic structure. A modal synthesis method which uses a combination of normal modes, constraint modes, and attachment modes, was used to represent effectively the elastic deformation of a flexible multibody. Since the combination of these modes should be different for each type of connecting part, the modal synthesis method was studied for the various types of interconnecting joints. In addition, the analysis procedure for the flexible body was explained. A satellite system with flexible solar panels was chosen as an example to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • 또세인꼬는 19세기 후반에서 20세기 초 식민지 버마의 지적 발전에 지대한 영향을 남긴 중요한 인물이지만 잊혀졌던 인물이다. '미얀마 연구'의 몇몇 뿌리가 식민지 시대에 있음을 고려할 때, 또세인꼬의 저작은 미얀마를 연구하고 이해하려는 오늘날의 노력에 의미하는 바가 크다. 그는 고고학적 저술로 잘 알려져 있긴 하지만, 그의 저작과 경력을 검토해 본 결과 그는 식민지사회에서 공적 지식인으로 활약했음을 알 수 있었다. 아시아 연구(특히 버마 연구)의 발전이 제국주의적 틀 속에서 이루어질 때, 또세인꼬는 식민지 버마에 존재했던 혼성적 저술전통을 따라 저술했다. 또세인꼬는 버마인의 관점이나 가장 공감할 수 있는 언어로 도회지 독자들에게 호소하는 방법과 같은 그 어느 길에서도 벗어났던 스콧, 오코너, 그리고 필딩-홀과 같은 영국학자들의 그룹에 속한다. 또세인꼬의 저술을 연구하는 것은 식민지적 지식과 버마에 관한 영국인의 저작에 관한 연구가 유용하게 재개념화 될 수 있는 기초를 갖추는데 도움이 된다.
