This study compared soil characteristics and carbon storage between urban and natural lands in Chunchon. Soil pH was lower in natural lands (5.0) than in urban lands (6.6), and therefore exchangeable cation was a little lower in natural lands. Organic matter and cation exchange capacity were respectively, 1.4 and 1.7 times higher in natural lands than in urban lands, while available $P_2O_5$ was about 3.2 times higher in urban lands. Organic carbon storage in soils averaged $24.8{\pm}1.6$ (standard error) t/ha in urban lands and $31.6{\pm}1.6t/ha$ in natural lands, 1.3 times greater than in urban lands. Annual carbon accumulation in soils of natural lands was 1.3 t/ha/yr (litterfall minus decomposition). The carbon storage in Chunchon' s soils equaled about 31% of annual carbon emission (245,590 t/yr).

Purpose: This study examines the effectiveness of an educational program of nursing biomedical ethics for nursing students to increase awareness of the Code of Ethics for Nurses, moral sensitivity, and application of the Code of Ethics for Nurses. Methods: A quasi-experimental research design and t-test were used. The experimental group (n=31) and control group (n=32) were second-year university nursing students in two major cities. The experimental group received 15 hours of nursing ethics education during the 15-week semester. The training was not provided to the control group. Results: The application of the Code of Ethics for Nurses increased significantly in the experimental group (t=-1.06, p=.017), nurses and patient (t=-2.23, p=.029), obligation of nurse as an expert (t=-2.08, p=.042), nurse and cooperator (t=-2.54, p=.014). The consciousness of biomedical ethics increased significantly in the experimental group (t=4.28, p=.021), newborn's right to live (t=-2.61, p=.011), euthanasia (t=-2.36, p=.021). Conclusion: The results of the study show that providing a nursing biomedical ethics program to nursing students is an effective method to enhance the application of the Code of Ethics for Nurses and Consciousness of Biomedical Ethics. Implementing an intervention program of the Code of Ethics for Nurses in the regular nursing curriculum may reduce conflicts involving ethical decision making by nurses.
Objectives : Mori Follium (Morus alba L. leaf) has been cultivated in many Asian countries. Especially, mulberry leaf has been used as an anti-diabetic remedy in oriental medicine. However, anti-obesity effect of mulberry has not been unknown. In this study, our objectives of study is to investigate the anti-adipogenic effect of mulberry water extract (MLE) and to reveal potential molecular anti-obesity mechanism in 3T3-L1 adipocytes differentiation model. Methods : The cytotoxicity of MLE in 3T3-L1 was examined by MTT assay. Anti-adipogenic effect of MLE was evaluated by Oil Red O (ORO) staining. To elucidate the molecular mechanism, inhibitor assay was employed. The mRNA expression levels of adipogenic transcriptional factors such as PPARγ and fatty acid synthase (FAS) were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymer chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis. Results : The MLE treatment for 24 h did not affect to the 3T3-L1 cells at concentrations of 1, 10, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,000 ㎍/㎖. Thus, non-toxic concentration rages of MLE were used during adipogenesis period (day -2 to 7). Intracellular lipid accumulation in MLE-treated 3T3-L1 adipocytes (day 6) were quantitatively evaluated by ORO staining. The MLE treatment significantly and dose-dependently suppressed 3T3-L1 adipogenesis by 60.42%, 38.24%, and 5.97% at 10, 100, and 200 ㎍/㎖, respectively. In addition, our inhibitor assay and RT-PCR analysis revealed that the MLE-inhibited 3T3-L1 adipogenesis through inhibition of PPARγ mediated by Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Conclusions : In conclusion, these findings indicate that the MLE could be used in prevent and/or treatment of obesity-related diseases.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the foot-reflexology massage on sleep, depression and constipation in community-dwelling elders. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2-test$, independent t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient with the SPSS 22.0 Windows program. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvements in sleep (t=-5.60, p<.001), depression (t=3.93, p<.001), and constipation (t=4.90, p<.001) after 2 weeks of the foot-reflexology massage. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the foot-reflexology massage is an effective intervention program for improving sleep, depression and constipation of old adults.
Susceptibility of a thermophilic strain (D-71) of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and an osmotolerant strain (SR-S) of Zygosaccharomyces rouxii to Zymolyase-20T were studied in various renditions. Content of glucan and mannan in cell wall of Saocharomyces cerevisiae D-71 were 14.5% and 14.8%, and Zygosaccharomyces rouxii SR-S were 24.0% and 19.0%, respectively. Susceptibility of Saccharomyces cerevisiae D-71 cultured in Wickerham synthetic medium containing 0.5% of methionine and 0.1% of glucose to Zymolyase-20T was 66%, and $K_2$HPO$_4$ and aminobenzoic acid were greatly effective to susceptibility. Susceptibility of Zygosaccharomyces rouxii SR-S cultured in Wickerhnin synthetic medium containing 0.5% of peptone, 0.15% of methionine and 0.l% of glucose to Zymolyase-20T was 80%, and KI and pyridoxine were greatly effective to susceptibility. Susceptibility of Saccharomyces cerevisiae D-71 stationary cultured in YMPG medium at $25^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours was 16o1e and Zygosaccharomyces rouxii SR-S stationary cultured in YMPG medium at $25^{\circ}C$ for 30 hours was 82%.
This study has been carried out to estimate aboveground biomass and net primary production in a 22-year-old Betula platyphylla and 24-year-old juglans mandshurica plantations. Nine sample trees were cut in each plantation. Estimations for aboveground biomass and net primary production were made by the equation model $Wt=aD^b$ where Wt is ovendry weight in kg and D is DBH in cm. Total aboveground biomass was 79.33t/ha in Betula platyphylla plantation and 67.47t/ha in Juglans mandshurica plantation. The proportion of each tree component to total aboveground biomass was high in order of bolewood, branches, bolebark, and leaves in the two plantations. Aboveground total net primary production was estimated at 9,92t/ha in Betula platyphylla plantation and 11.79t/ha in Juglans mandshurica plantation. There was greater net primary production in Juglans mandshurica plantation than in Betula platyphylla plantation because of greater bolewood, bolebark, current twig, and branch net primary productions in Juglans mandshurica plantation than in Betula platyphylla plantation.

The purposes of this study were to suggest the methodology to select prior areas in the environmental pollution survey for livestock excreta (EPSLE) as well as to elucidate the validity of the methodology. In this study, the prior areas in the EPSLE were determined by examining the number of compost facilities categorized according to the three levels of size including the basin, the sub-basin and the watershed, respectively, based on the data from "Annual Nation-wide Pollution Sources Survey (2012)". The results suggested that the list of prior basins were Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han river basins in order. Also, it was examined that the prior sub-basins in the four river basins including Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han rivers were Naesung Stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream, respectively. The prior watersheds in the sub-basins of Naesung stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream were Seocheon Downstream, Geum Stream, Gyeombaek Suwipyo and Yanghwa Stream, respectively. The validity of the methodology used in this study was elucidated by analyzing the correlation of the number of compost facilities with the concentrations of T-N and T-P observed in the end-points of sub-basins. The results of correlation analysis showed that the concentrations of T-N and T-P increased with the number of compost facilities. Specifically, there was the stronger correlation between the number of compost facilities and the concentrations of T-N than that for T-P. Consequently, it was proved that the methodology used in this work was valid and rational for the selection of prior areas in environmental pollution survey for EPSLE.
This study was to examine whether an elderly can health-related quality of life(EQ-5D) by the mediating effect of dental health determinants on the association between health practice behavior and EQ-5D. The analysis was conducted on 1,311 of above the age of 65 in elderly by using raw data from the 2015 National Health and Nutrition Survey. The data were analyzed using SPSS for windows version 24.0 and SPSS PROCESS-macro. The health practice behavior and EQ-5D by living arrangement were the highest in the one-generation family(4.62, 0.90) and the lowest the elderly living alone(4.40, 0.86). Also, analysis using the PROCESS macro indicated that the FS-T index has a mediating effect between health practice behavior and EQ-5D(${\beta}=.0011$, BCCI [.003~.0024]). These findings suggest that FS-T index is closely related to EQ-5D and this will be used as basic data for development of health promotion programs for elderly.
