  • Selenium is an ultra trace essential element for the normal functioning body because of forming the active center of redox enzymes such as four kinds of glutathione peroxidases (GPx), thioredoxin reductase (TR) and 5'-iodothyronine deiodinase. However, the adequate range between deficient and excessive levels is very narrow. (omitted)

  • The magnetic field application effect on resistance of a high-$T_c$ superconducting (HTSC) element comprising a flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) was investigated. The YBCO thin film, which was etched into a meander line using a lithography, was used as a current limiting element of the flux-lock type SFCL. To increase the magnetic field applied into HTSC element, the capacitor was connected in series with a solenoid-type magnetic field coil installed in the third winding of the flux-lock type SFCL. There was no magnetic field application effect on the resistance of HTSC element despite the application of larger magnetic field into the HTSC element when a fault happened. The resistance of HTSC element, on the contrary, started to decrease at the point of four periods from a fault instant although the amplitude of the applied magnetic field increased.

  • This paper presents development of a Finite Element Analysis program. The program was developed on the based of second-dimensional plane strain rigid plasticity finite element analysis and an implicit program is coded. The program was tested by being applied to the axisymetric hydrostatic bulge forming processes using the circle dies. By the Finite Element Analysis at the fluid in chamber and at the blank material, we could know that the hydrostatic bulge forming processes can be influenced of material, the diameter of product and the forming velocity The developed Finite Element Analysis program was approved by the analysis results about forming variables.

  • The objective of this study is to propose a new approach for modelling of burr formation process during orthogonal cutting when the tool exits the workpiece. This approach is based on the rigid-plastic finite element method combined with the ductile fracture criterion and the element kill method. This approach is applied to orthogonal cutting process to predict the fracture location and the fracture angle as well as the cutting force. To validate this approach, orthogonal cutting tests inside SEM(scanning electron microscope) at very low speed are carried out using A16061-T6 to observe the behavior of the material during the chip and the burr formation. The results of the experiment are compared with those of the finite element simulation.

  • Formulation of an 8 nodes assumed strain shell element is presented for the analysis of shells. The stiffness matrix based on the Mindlin-Reissner theory is analytically integrated through the thickness. The element is free of membrane and shear locking behavior by using the assumed strain method such that the element performs very well in modeling of thin shell structures. The material is assumed to be isotropic and laminated composite. The element has six degrees of freedom per node and can model the stiffened plates and shells. A great number of numerical testing carried out for the validation of present 8 node shell element are in good agreement with references.

  • Although a single-element synthetic aperture system can produce high-resolution beam profile, it is not a highly practical system because of its low signal to noise ratio against conventional system's. A multi-element synthetic aperture processing has been proposed with defocusing in this paper. A multi element subaperture defocused to emulate a single element spatial response with high acoustic power. The results have higher signal to noise and better contrast resolution than conventional synthetic aperture method.

  • An finite element code has been developed to calculate current flowing through an 8-node trilinear cubic element from the calculated potentials on the eight node. This code was implemented to the three-dimensional thoracic model for impedance cardiography to find the total currents in the z-direction flowing through the layers which are parallel to x-y plane. The accuracy of the total current was estimated from its variation among the layers. It was found that the accuracy of the total currents in the layers was less than 0.6%.
