  • IEEE 802.11 has become the main technology in wireless network. However, in terms of fairness, arise in its use in ad hoc networks. Two independent emitters nodes can easily monopolize the medium, preventing other nodes to send packets. This paper proposes the modified (m,k)-firm scheme which is based on T-MAC to improve fairness. Also, the proposed scheme uses different TA period according to the number of collision in the node. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheme helps improve the fairness of the DCF.

  • Wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) and routing technologies are the basic building blocks making it possible the Internet of Things (IoT). These technologies have been the focus of substantial research in the last decade. Nevertheless, as new networking standards for IoT are being proposed and different solutions are patched together, evaluating the performance of the network becomes unclear. In this paper, a new overview of MAC and routing protocols for IoT and new interactions are given. The IEEE 802.15.4 MAC and Routing Protocol for Low-power Lossy Network (RPL) routing protocols are taken as reference to exemplify and illustrate the discussion. Experimental results show that contention-based access MACs may hurt the routing, unless these two are carefully designed together.

  • MAC protocol must be necessarily used because the GPON technology has Point-to-Multipoint structure as connecting an OLT with numerous ONUs. And DBA algorithm must be used to support various services too. There are a few researches in DBA algorithm of GPON, referring the DBA algorithm of BPON which has a waste of bandwidth and the fairness problem between T-CONTs. In this paper, we proposed the BR-DBA algorithm to be able to solve the problems of DBA algorithm on BPON and designed that. As a result of evaluating the performance of BR-DBA algorithm using the NS-2 network simulator, we confirm that the problems of DBA algorithm on BPON were solved and increasing the throughput over BR-DBA algorithm.

  • IEEE 802.11 has become the main technology in wireless network. However, performance anomalies, especially in terms of fairness, arise in its use in ad hoc networks. Two independent emitters nodes can easily monopolize the medium, preventing other nodes to send packets. This paper proposes the modified (m,k)-firm scheme which is based on T-MAC to improve fairness. The basic idea is to assign higher priorities to nodes that are closer to a dynamic failure so as to improve their chances of meeting their deadlines. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheduling scheme helps improve the fairness of the DCF.

  • To support the WBAN, IEEE 802.15 Task Group 6 announced standardized documents on technical requirements of the PHY and MAC. In the IEEE 802.15.6 MAC protocol, CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) algorithm is performed based on the eight-level priorities according to the type of traffics of the periodic data from medical sensor nodes. Several nodes, which detected the changed bio signals, transmit emergency data at the same time, so latency could be higher than emergency latency and energy consumption will increase. In this thesis, we proposed a CSMA/CA algorithm in WBAN to solve these problems. Simulations are performed using a Castalia based on the OMNeT++ network simulation framework to estimate the performance of the proposed superframe and algorithms. Performance evaluation results show that the packet transmission success rate and energy efficiency are improved by reducing the probability of collision using the proposed MAC protocol.

  • Almost literature has so far proposed the modifications to IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC protocol to improve system throughput and average delay. Jitter(variance in packet delays) is, however, considered as an important QoS parameter for real-time streaming service which is popularized increasingly. Unfortunately, legacy access protocol for WLAN can't support the jitter. This paper proposes two schemes modifying the DCF MAC protocol to reduce the average value of jitter for multimedia frames arrived at received nodes. The one scheme, referred to as DCW-DCF(Decreasing Contention Window-DCF), reduces CW(Contention Window) size by half whenever a transmitted frame collided against other frames and back-off happens. Also, it increase initial CW size according as the link utilization and the collision probability increase. The other scheme, referred to as D-DIFS(Differential-DIFS), assigns different values to DIFS. That is, the DIFS interval is deceased as the number of back-off for a frame increases. In this paper, the two schemes are evaluated through simulation using ns2 and simulation results show that the proposed schemes are effective for improving the jitter property of standard WLAN.

  • When a car accident happened, the accident vehicle should broadcast a safe message to its neighbors in multi-hop. However, the pure flooding is difficult to protect a chain-reaction collision because of the frequent collision and the communication delay. To solve this problem, we proposes a back-off algorithm applied to the estimation of the neighbor node count using the t-distribution. And we proposes a MAC protocol preventing the communication delay by separating the neighbor's count collection channel and data channel. As a result, we show the frame reception success rate of our protocol improved more 10% than the previous protocol.

  • In mission-critical applications such as vehicular networks, distributed robotics, and other cyber-physical systems, the requirements for latency are more stringent than traditional applications. Among them, autonomous V2V communication is a rapidly emerging domain of applications with a few milliseconds' latency requirements. Today's systems utilizing 802.11p or LTE-direct standards are not primarily designed for ultra-low latency. Because the medium access function contributes to a significant portion of the total latency, it is necessary to modify Layer2 in order to solve the problem. Focusing on MAC layer, we developed a scalable and latency-guaranteed MAC by devising Autonomous TDMA (ATDMA) in which autonomous joining/leaving is allowed without scheduling by coordinator. We also evaluated the performance of the algorithm by comparing with the WAVE protocol.

  • IEEE 802.11n is an ongoing next-generation WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) standard that supports a very high-speed connection with more than 100Mb/s data throughput measured at the MAC(Medium Access Control) layer. Study trends of IEEE 802.11n show two aspects, enhanced data throughput using aggregation among packets in MAC layer, and better data rates adapting MIMO(Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) in PHY(Physical) layer. But, the former doesn't consider wireless channel and the latter doesn't consider aggregation among packets for reality. Therefore, this paper analyzes data throughput for IEEE 802.11n considering MAC and PHY connection. A-MPDU(Aggregation-MAC Protocol Data Unit) and A-MSDU(Aggregation-MAC Service Unit) is adapted considering multi-service in MAC layer, WLAN MIMO TGn channel using SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) is adapted considering MIMO and wireless channel in PHY layer. Consequently, Simulation results shows throughput between A-MPDU and A-MSDU. Also, We use Ns-2(Network simulator-2) for reality.

  • The concept of Internet of Things (IoT) has shed new light on WSN technologies. MAC protocol issues improving the network performance are important in WSNs because of the increase in demand for various applications to secure spectrum resources. Cognitive radio (CR) technology is regarded as a solution to the problems in this future wireless network. In recent years, energy efficiency has become an issue in CR networks. However, few relevant studies have been conducted. In this paper, an energy-efficient non-overlapping channel MAC (ENC-MAC) for CR-enabled sensor networks (CRSNs) is proposed. Applying the dedicated control channel approach, ENC-MAC allows the SUs to utilize channels in a non-overlapping manner, and thus spectrum efficiency is improved. Moreover, the cooperative spectrum sensing that allows an SU to use only two minislots in the sensing phase is addressed to en-hance energy efficiency. In addition, an analytical model for evaluating the performance, such as saturation throughput, average packet delay, and network lifetime, is developed. It is shown in our results that ENC-MAC remarkably outperforms existing MAC protocols.
