  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of the digital modulation schemes described in the APCO Project 25 FDMA specifications which can be used for applying the ultra-narrowband technology to the current domestic simple two-way radio systems, and discuss difficulties in the DSP implementation of the systems. We analyze the effect on the systems' BER performance of receiver non-matched filter and frequency-offset between the transmitter and receiver oscillators. And we present a frequency offset compensation method for improving the system performance. The results of performance analysis showed that the CQPSK of APCO Project 25 using non-matched filter degraded the BER by 0.5~1.0 ㏈ comparing with PI/4 DQPSK using matched filter. In the event of 2 % frequency offset, about 1 ㏈ performance loss was produced at the BER of $$10^{-3}TEX>. With the frequency-offset compensation method implemented in the systems using phase recovery scheme of PSK synchronization detection, the performance degradation of about 1.0 ㏈ was occurred at the BER of $$10^{-3}TEX> for 10 % of frequency offset. The proposed method can be used for the improvement of system performance.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the factors related to school-based activity performance in school-aged children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP). METHODS: The Gross Motor Function Systems (GMFCS), Manual Ability Classification System (MACS), Communication Function Classification System (CFCS) as functional classifications, and the physical activity performance of the School Function Assessment (SFA) were measured in 79 children with spastic CP to assess the student's performance of specific school-related functional activities. RESULTS: All the function classification systems were correlated significantly with the physical activity performance of the SFA ($r_s=-.47$ to -.80) (p<.05). The MACS (${\beta}=-.59$), GMFCS (${\beta}=-.23$), CFCS (${\beta}=-.21$), and age (${\beta}=-.15$) in order were predictors of the physical activity performance of the SFA (84.8%)(p<.05). CONCLUSION: These functional classification systems can be used to predict the school-based activity performance in school-aged children with CP. In addition, they can contribute to the selection of areas for intensive interventions to improve the school-based activity performance.

  • It is significant to predict the performance degradation of complex electromechanical systems. Among the existing performance degradation prediction models, belief rule base (BRB) is a model that deal with quantitative data and qualitative information with uncertainty. However, when analyzing dynamic systems where observable indicators change frequently over time and working conditions, the traditional belief rule base (BRB) can not adapt to frequent changes in working conditions, such as the prediction of aeroengine performance degradation considering working condition. For the sake of settling this problem, this paper puts forward a new hidden belief rule base (HBRB) prediction method, in which the performance of aeroengines is regarded as hidden behavior, and operating conditions are used as observable indicators of the HBRB model to describe the hidden behavior to solve the problem of performance degradation prediction under different times and operating conditions. The performance degradation prediction case study of turbofan aeroengine simulation experiments proves the advantages of HBRB model, and the results testify the effectiveness and practicability of this method. Furthermore, it is compared with other advanced forecasting methods. The results testify this model can generate better predictions in aspects of accuracy and interpretability.

  • We will discuss and compare the different ways to manufacture high performance Barix coated barrier films as a substrate for displays: R2R vs Batch. It will be shown that the barrier performance of the Barix coating on plastic can be as good as on glass substrates. More then 1000 hrs of testing at 60C/90RH can be passed without degradation of Ca samples

  • As the advance of multi-platform and multi-channel online services, brokerages are now offering three representative online trading systems - HTS(Home Trading Systems), WTS(Web Trading Systems), MTS(Mobile Trading Systems). In this study we investigated and compared the impact of different systems on the performance of brokerages. Using the panel data of 29 brokerages of 4 periods, we empirically tested the impact of online trading systems and the commissions of trading services. We found out that there exist some differences between the impacts of online trading systems based on the platforms. HTS was identified as the main platform for online trading services. However the role of MTS was also significantly identified while WTS showed no significant impact on the brokerage performances. Commission also showed significant negative impact in case of HTS and MTS platforms. Finally, offering MTS was identified as the significant dummy variable influencing the performance of brokerages. The results provides some implication for the multi-platform strategy for online services.

  • In this paper, the performance improvement of ultra-wideband (UWB) communications system to achieve high-data-rate using spatial diversity provided by multiple receive antennas is investigated. We derive the expression for the received SINR after spatially combining through multiple receive antennas and evaluate the bit error rate (BER) performance by numerical simulation. We also compare the performance results in the case of 2PPM systems with the theoretical performance results in the case of 2PAM THMA UWB systems. The impacts of spatial diversity on the performance of 2PPM and 2PAM THMA UWB systems are analyzed. It is shown that the BER performance is improved as the number of receive antennas increases. Also, it is observed that in the presence of multiple user interference signals, the performance of 2PAM THMA UWB systems is considerably superior to that of 2PPM THMA UWB systems.

  • Window system is an essential component for lighting, ventilation and thermal environment in buildings. Moreover, as balcony extension in apartment houses become legalized, the performance requirements of window systems in balcony space are getting complicated. However, at this moment, five properties of the windows are used to represent the performance aspects of the system, including wind resistance, air tightness, water tightness, sound insulation, thermal resistance. And such single properties are not capable to express the performance of a space with the window systems in terms of performance concept. A performance analysis with wholistic approach is required to see the effect of the window system in built environment. Thus, performance-based approach should be established, which will be able to evaluate the goal/function and comfort of occupants/owners. As the first step to develop the performance indicator for the window systme for balcony space, this study conducts a survey to find the required performance aspects. A complete set of performance-based indicators will be developed with verification methods in the later stage of research.

  • For high performance Grid environments, an efficient GIS(Grid Information Service is required In the Metacomputing Directory Service(MDS) of the Glogus middleware, the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol(LDAP), which is a distributed directory service protocol, is used. The LDAP GIS differs from general purpose LDAP directories in that most of the LDAP operations are write in Grid environments. To get an efficient design of the GIS, it is thus required to analyze the performance of the LDAP system in the context of Grid environments. This paper presents the result of a performance analysis of LDAP systems. The main objective of the evaluation is to see the performance scalability of the LDAP system in the Grid environment where the write operations prevails. Based on these results, we suggest directions of an efficient LDAP-based GIS for a high performance Grid.

  • As chip multiprocessors have been widely adopted in embedded systems, achieving both high performance and low power consumptions of parallel applications becomes challenging. In order to meet these requirements, it is crucial for developers to analyze the performance and energy consumption of parallel applications. In this paper, we propose a tool for profiling and optimizing the performance and energy consumption of OpenMP applications (energy PROfiler and analyzer for OpenMP: ePRO-OMP). The main advantage of ePRO-OMP is that it can analyze both the performance and energy consumption of each parallel region of an OpenMP application, which can help developers find the bottleneck of parallel applications in detail.
