서양 근대 생물학의 국내도입에 관한 연구-동물분류학을 중심으로- (Introduction of Western Biology into Korea, with Special Reference to Animal Systematics)

  • 서구에서 생물학이 급속히 발전하고 있을 때 한국은 고립된 채 전통적 생물학에 머무르고 있었다. 이 전통생물학에 뒤이어 서양인들의 조선산 생물채집 시기가 시작되었는데, 이들은 우리나라의 표본들을 본국으로 가져가서 1843-1924년 사이에 출간된 논문을 통해 약 3,000종을 기록하였다. 1924-1944년 사이에 출간된 조선박물학 잡지에는 91명의 저자가 쓴 318편의 논문이 수록되어 있으며, 이 논문들 중에는 동물분류학 논문이 224편(70.4%)으로 가장 많고, 또 이 225편 중에서 기재, 목록, 동물상에 관한 것이 201편이다. 비록 저자들의 대부분인 일본인이 83명을 차지하고 한국인 저자는 불과 7명 뿐이지만, 2명의 한국인이 논문 수에 있어서 3번째와 5번째를 차지한다. 이들 한국인 학자들은 일본인 학자의 조수로서 교육을 받았으나 일본에서 귀국한 몇몇 학자들과 함께 한국의 생물학에 있어서 중추가 되었고, 이들을 주역으로 하여 2차 대전 이후 서구 생물학이 한국에 도입할 수 있게 되었다.

Effects of Human Activities on Home Range Size and Habitat use of the Tsushima leopard Cat Prionailurus bengalensis euptilurus in a Suburban Area on the Tsushima Islands, Japan

  • The Tsushima leopard cat, Prionailurus bengalensis euptilurus, a small felid, inhabits only the Tsushima Islands in Japan. Previous studies of the Tsushima leopard cat revealed that natural factors; including sex, reproductive activity, season, and prey distribution and abundance affect leopard cat home range variation and habitat use. In this study, we focused on clarifying how anthropogenic factors influenced home range variation and habitat use of a male Tsushima leopard cat living near a suburban area in January, March, May and September 2005 using radio-tracking. The home range size (100% MCP) of this cat was $0.78\;{\pm}\;0.26\;km^2$ (mean ${\pm}$ SD, n = 4 tracking sessions) across the whole study period. However, the cat did not use all parts of its home range uniformly; rather it used some habitat types selectively. The cat avoided agriculture areas and residential areas in all of the tracking-sessions. On the other hand, the cat showed a weak preference for artificial structures and a strong preference for baiting sites in January and March, while it avoided them in May, and no baiting site was included in its home range in September. These results suggest that anthropogenic factors influenced the ranging patterns and habitat use of the leopard cat living near a suburban area. Artificial structures might provided good resting spaces for the cat in bad weather. When the density of its main prey was low in the winter, the cat tended to rely on artificial prey and had a small home range size.

Morphological characteristics of major airborne pollen in Korea peninsula

  • Although airborne pollen is invisible to the eye, it has been known as a major source to respiratory allergic reactions. For this reason, airborne pollen is monitoring in many countries to predict pollen concentration based on locality and season. However, the morphological characteristics of airborne pollen and their potential tendency as an allergen are still obscure. In the present study, we selected 52 airborne pollen samples based on previously reported data and investigated their detail pollen characteristics using LM and SEM. Major airborne pollen in Korea has sorted in 19 families (most angiosperms except four gymnosperm families), and all pollen grains are small to medium in size ($P=17.34-49.86{\mu}m$) apart from the bisaccate pollen grains of Pinaceae ($P=46.49-106.20{\mu}m$). The aperture number and shape vary from sulcate to polyporate. While the inaperture pollen has found only in gymnosperm (Cupressaceae and Taxaceae), triporate or polyporate is common pollen type in angiosperm. The sexine ornamentations could divide into several types, but the most sculpturing types are inconspicuous like psilate, rugulate and granulate. Reticulate pollen grains as a semitectum have occurred the species of genera Platanus and Fraxinus only. To estimate the possible relationships between pollen features and allergen, the results are discussed in botanical context.

한국과 극동러시아의 좀나방과 4 신종 기재 및 미기록종 (Notes on Some Tineids from Korea and Russian Far East, with Description of Four New Species (Lepidoptera: Tineidae))

  • 곤충계통분류연구센터와 러시아동물토양연구소에 소장된 표본을 중심으로 조사한 결과, 4종의 신종(Morophaga parabucephala sp. nov., Ceratuncus orientanus sp. nov., Gerontha ampliptera sp. nov., and G. namgaensis sp. nov.)을 발견, 기재발표한다. 또한 6종(Montescardia kurenzovi (Zagulajev), Morophagoides ussuriensis (Caradja), Gerontha borea Moriuti, Niditinea baryspilas (Meyrick), Monopis pavlovskii Zagulajev, and M. rusticella Hubner)이 한국 미기록종으로 보고되며, 4종은 극동러시아에서 처음 기록되는 종이다.
