  • This paper presents a real design and implementation of an intelligent client-server equipment controller in computer-integrated manufacturing systems. An automated manufacturing process is commonly controlled by a number of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), which are attached to various equipments. A manufacturing cell consists of a set of equipments or workstation, which are also controlled by equipment or cell controller. We propose an intelligent equipment controller which has two function: one is to request (collect) an important information from each equipment and the other is to send the collected equipment information to the upper level controller (shop floor controller). Two-phase approaches are considered for the development of equipment client-server controller. The first events are generated virtually using computer simulation. Using the virtually generated activities, operating software of equipment server is developed. The second phase is to embed the virtually developed software (controller) into a real manufacturing system. The proposed methodology might be a novel design and implementation of a virtual simulator, which could be used for developing an intelligent equipment server.

  • GNSS receiver which uses the weak satellite signal is very vulnerable to the intentional jamming or non-intentional electromagnetic interference. It is a very simple method among the use method of GNSS receiver to vary tracking loop bandwidth of satellite signal appropriately as the jamming signal level. In this paper, this anti-jamming performance is experimented and analyzed in the laboratory and the anechoic chamber by the GNSS simulator to generate the satellite signal and the jamming signal generator to generate the jamming signal.

  • Today, the number of automated machine has rapidly increased in industrial workplaces. Nevertheless, workers are often required to handle materials manually. Technical information for using the revised NIOSH lifting equation to evaluate a variety of two - handed Manual Material Handling (MMH) tasks was investigated. The NIOSH suggested the Lifting Index that provides a relative estimate of the level of physical stress associated with a particular manual lifting task. To measure operator's workload in lifting task, Lifting Index Simulator(LIS) was developed based upon the revised NIOSH lifting equation in this study. The purpose of this study was to develop LIS and use the NIOSH lifting equation in our workplace.

  • In this paper, we propose a distributed communication model of intrusion detection system(IDS) in which integrated security management at networks level is possible, model it at a security node and distributed system levels, design and implement a simulator. At the node level, we evaluate the transfer capability of alert message based on the analysis of giga-bit security node architecture which performs hardware-based intrusion detection. At the distributed system level, we perform the evaluation of transfer capability of detection and alert informations between components of distributed IDS. In the proposed model, we carry out the performance evaluation considering decision factors of communication mechanism and present the results in order to gain some quantitative understanding of the system.

  • This paper proposes a control method for maintaining the energy level for a supercapacitor energy storage system coupled with a wind generator to stabilize wind power output. Although wind power is green and clean energy source, disadvantage of the renewable energy output power is fluctuation. In order to mitigate the fluctuating output power, supercapacitor energy storage system (SCESS) and wind power simulator is developed. A remaining energy supercapacitor (RESC) control is introduced and analyzed to smooth for short-term fluctuating power and maintain the supercapacitor voltage within the designed operating range in the steady as well as transient state. When the average and fluctuating component of power increases instantaneously, the RESC compensates fluctuating power and the variation of fluctuating power is reduced 100% to 30% at 5kW power. Furthermore, supercapacitor voltage is maintained within the operating voltage range and near 50% of total energy. Feasibility of SCESS with RESC control is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper, we consider the performance improvement that can be obtained with interference alignment (IA) technique applied to 802.11ac based multi-BSS WiFi service. To this end, we developed a system simulator consisting of a link-level PHY simulator, based on 802.11ac specification, and multi-BSS proportional-fair scheduler. Specifically, assuming perfect channel side information and synchronization of signals from multiple APs, we used a SLNR based interference alignment algorithm proposed in [13] and compared its performance with that of multiuser beamforming based time-sharing system. The performance was evaluated in terms of average throughput per BSS and 5% worst user throughput. The results show that 70 to 100% throughput gain can be obtained in this ideal scenario.

  • LTE-R(Long Term Evolution-Railway) for high speed railway system operation as an essential technology is based on LTE. Recently, moving speed of high speed train is on going to 600[km/h] level over commercial speed 400[㎞/h]. LTE-R as communication technology for a high speed railway system can be able to provide seamless communication to support moving speed for high speed railway system. In this study, a handover method based on prediction is suggested and performance of the suggested method is evaluated. Computer simulation based on NS(Network Simulator)-3 is used for this study.

  • To cope with recently increasing demand for data traffics, heterogeneous networks have been actively studied, where small cells are deployed within a macro cell coverage with the same frequency band. To mitigate the interference from the macro cell to small cells, an enhanced Inter-cell Interference Coordination (eICIC) technique has been proposed, where ABS (Almost Blank Subframe) is used in time domain. However, there is a waste of resource since no data is transmitted in a macro-cell in ABS. In this paper, we propose a new interference management method by using a 3D sector beam based on Active Antenna System (AAS), where Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to reduce the antenna gain toward a small-cell. With the proposed scheme, the macro-cell and small cells can transmit data at the same time with the AAS antenna pattern generating reduced interference to small cells. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by using an LTE-Advanced system level simulator.

  • Conventional alarm system has many difficulties in the operator's identifying the plant status during special situations such as design basis accidents. To solve the shortcomings, an on-line alarm annunciator system, called dynamic alarm console (DAC), was developed. In the DAC, a signal is generated as alarm by the use of an adaptive setpoint check strategy based on operating mode, and time delay technique is used not to generate nuisance alarms. After alarm generation, if activated alarm is a level precursor alarm or a consequencial alarm, it would be suppressed, and the residual alarms go through dynamic prioritization which provide the alarms with pertinent priorities to the current operating mode. Dynamic prioritization is achieved by going through the system- and mode-oriented prioritization. The DAC has the alarm hierarchical structure based on the physical and functional importance of alarms. Therefore the operator can perceive alarm impacts on the safety or performance of the plant with the alarm propagation from equipment level to plant functional level. In order to provide the operator with the most possible cause of the event and quick cognition of the plant status even without recognizing the individual alarms, reactor trip status tree (RTST) was developed. The DAC and the RTST have been simulated with on-line data obtained from the full-scope simulator for several abnormal cases. The results indicated that the system can provide the operator with useful and compact information fur the earlier termination and mitigation of an abnormal state.

  • In general, such ground based methods are utilized to validate maneuvering and attitude control logics of a spacecraft by a simulation with a flight software at a design phase and a integrated function test with actual hardwares at a system level. Recently, varification researches using operating simulators are getting increase using compact and precise components under a ground condition. The present paper investigates and summarized the development trend of cold gas propulsion systems for the spacecraft simulators and their major performance characteristics to derive fundamental data which are necessary for a conceptual design of the simulator.
