  • Force is one of the most important variables with welding current and welding time in resistance spot welding. But a good farce control method hasn't been come out on servogun resistance spot welding system. In this study, we prove the feedback current of the servo-motor can be used to an excellent force measuring sensor and the force can be also controlled by the feedback current.

A Study of Spot Welding Process to Reduce Spatter with the Hollow Tip (팁 선단에 중공이 있는 전극을 이용한 스패터 저감 스폿 용접에 관한 연구)

  • In automotive company, a lot of researchers have investigated for the spatterless welding process during last two decades. A spatter influences on the product quality such as strength and surface states. In this paper, a hollow tip is proposed for spatterless process. An optimal size of electrode hole is obtained from a weldability evaluation of each hole diameter. Through the cross section analysis, a phenomenon that molten metal moves in the hole which located between two workpiece is observed, and this makes spatterless welding process even though current is higher. Finally, widely acceptable weld area in lobe curve is obtained by using hollow tip as compare with conventional no hollow tip. In this paper, spatterless resistance spot welding with improvement weldability and productivity is proposed by using hollow tip.

Real Time Quality Assurance with a Pattern Recognition algorithm during Resistance Spot Welding (패턴 인식 기법을 이용한 저항 점 용접의 실시간 품질 판단)

  • Since resistance spot welding has become one of the most popular sheet metal fabrication processes, a strong emphasis is being put on the quality of the welds. Throughout the years many quality estimation systems have been developed by many researchers to ensure weld quality. In this study, the process variables, which were monitored in the primary circuit of the welding machine, are used to estimate the weld quality with Hopfield neural network. The primary dynamic resistance is vectorized and stored as five patterns in the network. As the welding is done, the dynamic resistance patterns are recognized and the quality is estimated with the proposed method. Due to the primary process variables, it is possible to utilize this algorithms as an in-process real time quality monitoring system.

  • There are many problems in present truss-deck slab system for example welding defect, segregation, water leakage, rust and tarnish etc. These problems may be caused by spot welding thin galvanized steel plate and lattice bar. The TOX Joining Systems is to join metal sheets of different material and thickness with and without coating or painting without adding heat or a joining part. Newly developed TOX-deck slab system using non-welding joint is free from above mentioned problems. The objects of this study are suggestion of design strength of TOX joint by experimental and statistical analyses and development of window based program to design the TOX-deck slab system.

  • In this paper, we atempt to control the nonlinear power system for resistance spot welders to be a fully linearizesd system by applying the recently developed nonlinear feedback linearization techniques. the controller proposed in this paper is computationally simple. In addition, the easy gain tuning as well as the high dynamic performance of resistance spot welding systems can be obained simulaneously. To illustrate the dynamic performance of our controller further, we present some simulation results.

  • Resistance spot welding is widely employed in a manufacturing process. In recent years, the requirement for more sophisticated quality control procedures has been in mass production industries. The requirements for high productivity and better weld qualities have lead to the development of more widely available microcomputer-based control. In this study, the inverter type power source and welding servo gun are developed. As the results, we have some advantages over the previous methods such as pneumatic gun. One of them is that the precise pressure control can be attained during the welding process. In addition, production time and cost can be decreased.

Analysis on Durability Performance of Spot Welding by the Status of Over-Slam Bumper in Hood System (후드 오버슬램범퍼 조립 상태에 따른 점용접의 내구성능 영향 분석)

  • Purpose: Recently, Issues on security for vehicles are getting increased all around the world. Especially, hood panel needs to be thinner for the protection of pedestrians. But thinner panel makes durability get worse. So, it is needed to satisfy both of them. Methods: Durability effectiveness will be studied because properties and assembly allowance of over-slam bumper mostly affects durability of hood panel. Overlap of over-slam bumper can be made in production line and it can affect durability of spot welding in hood inner panel. Daguchi method is used to catch the condition in which load gets smaller and location, hardness and quantity of overlap are selected to be factors. Durability effectiveness is analyzed with the factors. Result: the mechanism that affects on spot welding is identified. The test was conducted in both open/close and driving condition and the relation between both conditions is analyzed. Conclusion: The test contributed to durability of hood panel with optimization of over-slam bumper.

A Study for the Improvement of Weld Quality Through Force Control of Servo Gun in Resistance Spot Welding using Robot (저항 점 용접 로봇에서 서보건의 가압력 제어를 통한 용접 강도 향상에 대한 연구)

  • Resistance spot welding is widely used for joining sheet metals in the automotive manufacturing process. Recently, servo-gun is used to increase the productivity and precise control the acting force. However, force control mechanisms have not been investigated with servo-guns until now. In this paper, it is proved that servo-motor current is proportional to torque and by experiment, experimental equation between servo-motor current and electrode force was derived. Algorithm for feedback control of electrode force was suggested using current measurement. In addition, applying soft touch method to this system the impact between electrode and specimen, which is the problem of air gun, could be reduced. Indentation made the force decrease in holding time of resistance spot welding. In order to overcome this problem, force compensation using the servo gun was used and it improved weld strength in good welding current range.
