시스템 원형을 활용한 시스템 다이내믹스 모형 구축: 대체연료차량 시장 모형의 예 (Building a Market Share Model of Alternative Fuel Vehicles: From Generic System Archetypes to System Dynamics Modeling)

  • This study investigates market barriers in increasing the market share of Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs). In particular, this study first conceptualizes the AFVs market model with the aid of generic system archetypes suggested by Wolstenholme. Among four generic system archetypes suggested by Wolstenholme, the market structure of AFVs can be explained by the 'relative achievement' archetype. Starting from the generic system archetype, this study extends the model boundary step by step to take account of various model assumptions necessary to simulate the model numerically. If there is a significant network effect on vehicle operating costs, it is difficult to achieve the shift to AFVs even in the long term without a policy intervention because the car market is locked into the current structure. There are several possible policy options to break the 'locked-in' structure of the car market, such as subsidies on vehicles, subsidies on fuels, and a niche management policy.

  • Unlike that of most management science methodologies, the focus in systems thinking is not on \\\"solving\\\" problems or seeking an optimal solution. Conventional problem solving does not explicitly consider the context of the problem. This implies that the \\\"hospital financial management problem\\\" could be neatly isolated from its environmental and external factors. System thinking and system archetypes, in contrast, acknowledges the messiness of the world and views a problem in the context of its environment. This is one reason why qualitative variables play an important role in system thinking, as these variables represent conditions or phenomena that cannot be measured or accounted in a strictly quantitative approaches. In this paper we present specific healthcare system archetypes which consider such external influences in the healthcare industry in Australia and observe their behavior over time. behavior over time.

전통복식 문화원형 콘텐츠의 디지털 활용 현황과 제언 (Digital Application and Suggestions of Cultural Prototypes in Traditional Costumes)

  • This study is intended to analyze current status of costume in the cultural industry and explore feasibility of integrating costume as important cultural contents in the digital era. Among the websites for contents as the cultural archetypes, some have strong foundations while others don't. First, as for various archetypal characters restored based on the Korean history, most of their clothes focus on shapes and colors but lack details. They should be produced in 3D to provide back views or textile patterns to users. To ease understanding of the history of costume, user-friendly services such as launch of a pop-up window when users click on specific contents in question should be available for detailed information. At least there should be a link to other related sites where users can conveniently find more details. Second, some sites have too much data under one subject, increasing complexity and undermining orderliness. As a result, it takes long time to identify the site map. In this case, it is required to rearrange the contents with Quick View by subject and related links for in-depth study. Third, each subject is important to develop the archetypes for a variety of purposes. Creation of design derived from them or their commercialization can be an example but these activities should not restrict imagination of users or degrade the value of the archetypes. Last, it is needed to adopt validation system to detect the needs for a regular update (renewal) and to fix errors. We found many servers whose operation is not stable in general. When these technical issues are addressed for stable operation, users will rely on the sites to utilize them for their purpose of developing the cultural archetypes. In conclusion, advancement of www.culturecontent.com is essential. Based on efficient management and operation of the system, the quality of contents would be increased and multi-faceted advertising campaigns focusing on needs should be launched, to promote application of the contents. This is the recommendation for the future of the cultural archetype industry in Korea.

시스템사고로 본 의료전달체계의 위기와 개선방안 (Systems Thinking for the Crisis and Improvements of Healthcare Delivery System)

  • This study structurally analyzes major inefficiency of Korea's healthcare delivery system by utilizing the systems thinking. In particular, the phenomenon of patient's concentrated visits to large hospitals, waste of resource due to competitions between clinics and large hopitals, and the structure of oversupply were visualized using the causal loop diagram. The inefficient structure of healthcare delivery system can be understood more clearly by utilizing the major system archetypes of 'success to the successful', 'tragedy of commons', 'escalation' and 'limits to growth'. This study also finds solution from archetypal structure suggested by Wolstenholme. The inefficient status of healthcare delivery system might be explained by the 'out of control' archetype. In conclusion, the public resources such as the national health insurance need to be acknowledged as the entire achievement. All the participants should cooperate with each other in order to improve the inefficiency of the healthcare delivery system. In addition, the arrangement of incentive system for cooperation, acceleration of health information technology, and development of innovative business models make the sustainable healthcare delivery system.

Seismic response evaluation of concentrically rocking zipper braced frames

  • In this study an innovative rocking zipper braced frame (RZBF) is proposed to overcome the deficiencies of common concentrically braced frames. RZBF is an improved rocking concentrically braced frame which is based on combination of rocking behavior and zipper columns. The base rocking joints and post-tensioned bars provide rocking response and restoring force, respectively. Also, zipper columns distribute the unbalance force over the frame height and reduce the damage concentration. To evaluate seismic performance of RZBF, a comparison study is carried out considering concentrically braced frame, zipper braced frame, rocking concentrically braced frame and RZBF. Thereby, a suite of non-linear time history analyses had been performed on four different types of archetypes with four, six, eight, ten and twelve stories. Frames were designed and non-linear time history analyses were conducted in OpenSees. To compare the seismic behavior of the archetypes, roof drifts, residual roof drifts, story drifts, the forces of first and top story braces, PT bars forces, column uplift and base shears were taken in to consideration. Results illustrate that using RZBF, can reduce the damage due to reduced residual drifts. Zipper columns enhance the seismic performance of rocking systems. As the number of stories increase in the RZBF systems, larger top story braces were needed. So the RZBF system is applicable on low and midrise buildings.

Response modification and seismic design factors of RCS moment frames based on the FEMA P695 methodology

  • Due to their efficient use of materials, hybrid reinforced concrete-steel (RCS) systems provide more practical and economic advantages than traditional steel and concrete moment frames. This study evaluated the seismic design factors and response modification factor 'R' of RCS composite moment frames composed of reinforced concrete (RC) columns and steel (S) beams. The current International Building Code (IBC) and ASCE/SEI 7-05 classify RCS systems as special moment frames and provide an R factor of 8 for these systems. In this study, seismic design parameters were initially quantified for this structural system using an R factor of 8 based on the global methodology provided in FEMA P695. For analyses, multi-story (3, 5, 10, and 15) and multi-span (3 and 5) archetypes were used to conduct nonlinear static pushover analysis and incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) under near-field and far-field ground motions. The analyses were performed using the OpenSees software. The procedure was reiterated with a larger R factor of 9. Results of the performance evaluation of the investigated archetypes demonstrated that an R factor of 9 achieved the safety margin against collapse outlined by FEMA P695 and can be used for the design of RCS systems.

시스템사고로 본 우리나라 사회갈등의 구조와 갈등해소를 위한 정책방향 (System Dynamics View on Korea's Social Conflict and Policy Direction for Conflict Resolution)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine Korea's social conflict structure from System Dynamics perspective and to suggest policy direction for conflict resolution. Unlike previous studies on Korea's social conflict, this study tries to find out core structure of Korea's social conflict with help of studies on system archetypes. As a result, Korea's social conflict structure was analyzed as a combined prototype of 'limit to the growth' archetype and 'success to the successful' archetype. Based on this combined system archetype, a simple conflict model was simulated to examine the magnitude of conflict and success that could be reached under different conditions. With simulation results, policy suggestions were made for conflict resolution.

혼잡해소를 위한 도로건설의 정책효과: 시스템 다이내믹스 이론의 적용 (Policy Impact Analysis of Road Transport Investment via System Dynamics Theory)

  • Congestion problems can be approached from the viewpoint of system dynamics theory. The relationship between road capacity and congestion can be explained by the 'relative control' archetype among four system archetypes suggested by Wolstenholme. There is a balancing feedback loop between road capacity and road congestion. However, there is another balancing loop between road congestion and car traffic volume, which keeps disrupting the equilibrium of the former loop. A system dynamics model, which is based on a partial adjustment model of induced traffic in the literature, is built to simulate three road building scenarios: 'Expanding investment', 'Balancing investment' and 'Frozen road investment' scenarios. The 'Expanding investment' scenario manages to drop congestion levels by 9% over 30 years, however, causing much higher emissions of $CO_2$ than other scenarios. The trade-off relationship between congestion levels and environmental costs must be taken into consideration for road investment policies.

조아(曹娥)설화와 문화원형콘텐츠 사례연구 (Cao-e's story and Its Case Study on the culture archetype contents)

  • 중국 고대사회에 있어 효 문화는 가부장제도 아래에서 도덕규범의 실천적 원리였다. 조아(曹娥)는 중국의 대표적인 효의 상징인물로, 원래 무녀(巫女)였으나 한대의 주류 사상인 유가철학의 전파와 함께 효녀의 형상으로 전환되었으며, 이후 지역문화의 발전과 함께 민간의 신앙과 접목하여 수신(水神)의 개념으로 재탄생하기도 하였다. 조아설화의 전파과정 중, 구전과 문학적 가공은 상호적인 작용을 통해 영향을 주고받으며, 미화되거나 신성화되고 체계화 되었는데, 조아도상은 이러한 인류가 추구하는 보편적이며 온전한 사유적 형상의 체현이다. 예컨대, 현대사회에 있어 문화적 정체성과 함께 그 이면의 근본적인 내적 함의의 인식이 중요하다. 그러므로 조아의 효를 주제로 한 사회기반의 문화콘텐츠의 창작과 이를 통해 효가 가진 문화적 핵심가치를 찾는 것은 의미 있는 일이다. 본문은 조아설화와 효사상 그리고 문화원형을 사례중심으로 서술하였으며, 조아의 민간신앙적 신성화 측면에서 문학으로부터 파생된 가공과 도상의 형성 사이의 관계를 이해하고, 이미지의 변화와 조형성을 통한 문화콘텐츠로서의 가능성을 살펴보았다.

Response of self-centering braced frame to near-field pulse-like ground motions

  • A low damage self-centering braced frame equipped with post-tensioning strands is capable of directing damage to replaceable butterfly-shaped fuses. This paper investigates the seismic performance of rocking braced frame under near-field pulse-like ground motions compared to far-field records. A non-linear time history analysis is performed for twelve self-centering archetypes. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to examine the influences of ground motion types and modeling parameters. Findings represent the proper efficiency of the self-centering system under both far-field and near-field pulse-like ground motions.
