The characteristics of capacity control using a variable speed compressor in an industrial cooler (산업용 냉각기의 압축기 회전수 변화에 따른 용량제어 특성)

  • This paper presents the capacity-control characteristics in an industrial cooler with a variable speed compressor. The inverter-type compressor is controlled by the rotational speed of the operational frequency. This type of the compressor performs the wide range of load compared to the on-off type. When the load of the system reduces, the rotational speed will be reduced. Thus, the system leads to the less power consumption and extends the longer durability of the compressor. With the variable rotational speed of the compressor the cooling capacity of the cooler is about 1.6-3.6 kW and the capacity control is about 40-100%. The system showed the highest efficiency when the rotational speed is about 45-70 Hz. The results can be used as the basic design data to control an industrial cooler.

  • Distribution centers in a distribution system that consists of the distribution centers and retailers supplies products to retailers. At the present, although total capacity of the distribution centers are enough to supply total demand of retailers, capacity of the distribution centers need to be expanded to satisfy the demand of retailers in case that future demand of the retailers will be increased. Capacity expansion model in a distribution system is to determine the location and size of expansion distribution centers that minimize costs among given distribution centers. Transportation amount from distribution center to retailers also is determined. The costs factors are the capacity expansion costs of the distribution centers and the transportation costs from the distribution centers to the retailers. A model is formulated, and a genetic algorithm based solution procedure is developed. A numerical example is shown and the algorithm is analyzed through examples.

  • In this paper, we propose a call admission control(CAC) scheme fer the mixed voice/data DS-CDMA systems and analyze the Er-lang capacity under the proposed CAC scheme. Voice and data traffics require different system resources based oil their Quality of Service(QoS) requirements. In the proposed CAC scheme, some system resources are reserved exclusively for handoff calls to have high priority Over new calls. Additionally the queueing of both new and handoff data traffics that are not sensitive to delay is allowed. Ar a performance measure for the suggested CAC scheme. Erlang capacity is utilized. For the performance analysis, a four-dimensional Markov chain model is developed. Erlang capacity of a practical IS-95B type system depicts, and optimum values of system parameters such as the number of reservation channels and queue lengths are found with respect to Erlang capacity. Finally, it is observed that Erlang capacity is improved more than two times by properly selecting the system parameters with the proposed CAC scheme.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the load transfer capacity and study of conductor size for variable contingencies in distribution systems. The operation capacity of feeders was changed to improve operation efficiency in KEPCO, considerations for contingencies are still based on the previous capacity. In order to cope with the changes such as operation capacity, it is necessary to study whether the present "contingency support criteria" is reasonable or not, also to confirm the whether the present criteria should be improved or not. We analyze the load transfer capacity and conductor size on a distribution system for contingency levels such as the substation-level, bank-level, feeder-level, and zone-level.one-level.

  • In this study, it is conducted that the performance verification of the ambient load carrying capacity algorithm using long-term measurement systems of bridges. For this purpose, a steel-box type model bridge is fabricated and the public load carrying capacity of a steel-box model bridge is estimated by conducting the numerical analysis and load test. In addition, we compare the public load carrying capacity with the estimated result of a steel-box model bridge using the ambient load carrying capacity algorithm. By the assessment result, it is shown that the estimated ambient load carrying capacity is the difference of approximately 6.0 percentages as compared with the public load carrying capacity.

  • There are two methodologies to increase transport capacity of railway. The one is to invest railroad equipment or vehicles, and the other is to improve operation efficiency through optimization. All of these is intended to increase transport capacity by improving line capacity So far, we treat line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting tram frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that change dynamically according to operational condition, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. The Purpose of this paper is to present a new line capacity estimation system based on the probability simulation and its applications.

Evaluation of NH4+-N Ion Exchange Property using Natural Zeolite and Zeolite Carrier (천연 제올라이트와 제올라이트 담체를 이용한 NH4+-N 이온교환 특성 평가)

  • The ammonium ion exchange characteristics of natural zeolite were investigated to remove ${NH_4}^+-N$. The effect of water temperature, particle size and competitive cation on the exchange capacity was examined. Ammonium ion exchange capacity tended to decrease when the temperature increased from $25^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$. Exchange capacity was increased according to the particle size of natural zeolite comes to be small. Batch isotherm experiments were conducted for measuring ammonium ion exchange capacity. The ion exchange capacity was well described either by the Langmuir isotherm model or by the Freundlich isotherm model. The ammonium ion exchange capacity ($q_m$) of zeolite carrier can be calculated $11.744mg-{NH_4}^+/g$-carrier. The ion exchange capacity of manufactured zeolite carrier was showed a similar tendency as ion exchange capacity of powder-sized natural zeolite. Therefore, zeolite carrier can be used for increasing of nitrogen removal efficiency in the wastewater treatment plants.

Capacity Improvement of BS-CDMA System by Spectrum Overlapping Method between Adjacent Channels

  • The capacity improvement in the DS-CDMA system can be obtained by allowing spectrum-overlap between adjacent channels. In this paper, an analysis for capacity improvement is newly considered according to the various chip waveforms in the partial spectrum-overlapped DS-CDMA system. Optimum-overlapping ratio is numerically found to obtain maximum capacity improvement for each chip waveform. Assuming the bandwidth containing 95% of the total power, i.e., 95% power bandwidth, rectangular chip waveform has the largest capacity improvement in the considered chip waveforms and then the amount of improvement is 136.5% at overlapping ratio 1.5 for BER = $10^{-3}$TEX> . Furthermore, as the required BER becomes lower, the capacity improvement gets smaller for a1l of chip waveforms. For the unequal power channels, it is shown that the larger capacity improvement is achieved as the power of desired channel becomes larger than that of adjacent channels. And the capacity improvement can be obtained even though the desired channel power is lower than the adjacent channel power.

  • In the case of renewable generation resources, the supply capacity is determined by the climate and environment factors unlike the existing generators. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the capacity vlaue for estimating the supply capacity of renewable generation sources. In this paper, a case study on the estimation method of capacity vlaue of renewable generation resources and a verification using data of Jeju-Island power system are presented. This paper is different from the existing researches because of estimating the capacity value of renewable generation resources for the Jeju-Island power system, which has a high ratio of renewable generation.

Fuzzy Control with Feedforward Compensator of Superheat in a Variable Speed Refrigeration System

  • In this paper, we suggest fuzzy control with feedforward compensator of superheat to progress both energy saving and coefficient of performance(COP) in a variable speed refrigeration system. The capacity and superheat are controlled simultaneously and independently by an inverter and an electronic expansion valve respectively for saving energy and improving COP in the system. By adopting the fuzzy control. the controller design for the capacity and superheat is possible without depending on a dynamic model of the system. Moreover, the feedforward compensator of the superheat can eliminate influence of the interfering loop between capacity and superheat. Some experiments are conducted to design the appropriate fuzzy controller by an iteration manner. The results show that the proposed fuzzy controller with the compensator can establish good control performances for the complicated refrigeration system with inherent strong non-linearity.
