Since it has been suggested that atrial receptor may be involved in the mechanism of extracellular volume regulation, it was shown that the granularity of atrial cardiocytes can be changed by water and salt depletion, and that an extract of cardiac atrial tissue, when injected intravenously into anesthetized rats, was shown to cause a large and rapid increase in renal excretion of sodium. Various natriuretic peptides were isolated and synthetized, and the effects were investigated by many workers. Most studies, however, have been carried out under anesthesia and there have teen some controversies over direct effect of the factor on the renal function. Therefore, it was attempted in this study to access the effects of an atrial extract and a synthetic natriuretic factor in unanesthetized rabbits. Intrarenal arterial infusion of atrial extract caused a rapid increase of urinary volume and excretion of sodium. Glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow were both increased with no change in filtration fraction. The ventricular extract produced no change in urinary excretion of electrolytes, nor in renal hemodynamics. Intrarenal infusion of synthetic atrial natriuretic factor caused increases of renal excretory rate of sodium, chloride and potassium, and $FE_{Na}$. Glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow increased. And free water clearance also increased. Accentuated excretory function correlated well with increased glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow during infusion and for 10 minutes following the cessation of the infusion. Renin secretion rate decreased during constant infusion of atrial natriuretic factor. However, no correlation was found with the changes in glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, or urinary excretion of sodium. These results suggest that atrial extract or atrial natriuretic factor induces changes in renal hemodynamics, as in excretion of electrolytes either indirectly through hemodynamic changes or directly by inhibiting tubular reabsorption. At the same time, renin secretory function is affected by the factor possibly through an unknown mechanism.
Natural colorants haute attracted much attention all over the world because of their non-hazardous nature. The world is becoming increasingly aware of environmental Issues, such as ozone layer depletion, water pollution and waste disposal problems. The use of synthetic dyestuffs for their synthesis and application in the dyeing industries has been criticized due to introduction of contaminants into the environment. This has led to the desire to turn to the traditional, and more natural way of life. In this study, the colorants of extract of Ginkgo biloba bark were analysed and their dyeing properties on silk, wool and cotton were studied. It was found that uv-visible absorption spectra of extract of Ginkgo biloba bark showed two strong absorption Peaks in the range of 240 ∼400 In. From the result of IR spectra, the major ingredient of extract of Gikgo biloba bark seems to be the flavon which is one of the flavonoid derivatives. Silk, wool, and cotton dyed with the extract of Ginkgo biloba bark showed a reddish yellow color. Their color differences were increased drastically with repetition of dyeing by three times.
The corrosion inhibition properties of conifer cone (Pinus resinosa) extract were studied in synthetic concrete pore solutions (SCPS) with and without chloride environments by electrochemical methods. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed that the conifer cone (CC) extract showed promising inhibition behavior by diminishing the corrosion rate of steel rebar both solutions i.e. with and without chloride. The extract of conifer cone hinders the corrosion reaction between steel rebar and aggressive ions. Further, it can be verified that the up to 1000mg.L-1 of CC extract can able to reduce the corrosion rate of steel rebar in chloride contaminated concrete.
This study added black lentil ethanol extract to Yakgwa at ratios of 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0%, and its quality characteristics were compared to those of the synthetic antioxidant BHT added to Yakgwa. Yakgwa with black lentil extract had lower moisture content than Yakgwa with BHT (3.98%) but higher content than the control group (5.72%). Higher black lentil extract resulted in less moisture content (p<0.001) as well as a faster expansion rate and oil absorption rate (p<0.001). Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed that as black lentil extract content increased, pores merged and collapsed, whereas the number of pores decreased and pore size became larger. For chromaticity, all L, a, and b values of the group containing black lentil extract were higher compared to the control group and group with BHT (p<0.001). For texture, as amount of added black lentil extract increased, hardness (p<0.001) and gumminess (p<0.01) increased while cohesiveness (p<0.01) decreased compared to the control group. For sensory characteristics, Yakgwa with 1.0% black lentil extract showed the best preference for all items except for off-flavor. Thus, 1.0% black lentil added to Yakgwa was the best in terms of functionality including preference.
Enterovirus is a common cause of several severe diseases such as myocarditis, hand-foot-mouth disease, and meningitis in children and adult. There are many try to develop new antiviral drug for direct treatment in virus infection. However, synthetic chemical antiviral drug is not working. To overcome this limitation, we examined plant extracts. The antiviral effect of plant extracts was screened by HeLa cell survival assay in coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection. We observed a strong antiviral effect of Poria cocos extract in a dose-dependent manner (1 mg/ml~0.01 mg/ml). P. cocos extract (1 mg/ml) treatment was dramatically decreased virus protease 2A induced eIF4G-I cleavage and virus capsid protein VP1 production. CVB3 positive and negative strand RNA amplification were significantly reduced in P. cocos extract treatment. P. cocos extract completely blocked early time activation of ERK and AKT activity in CVB3 infection. Taken together these data indicate that the treatment of P. cocos extract strongly inhibit CVB3 replication. Poria cocos extract may possible to developed as a therapeutic agent for enterovirus.
Lichen had been used as dyestuffs before the discovery of synthetic dyes in Europe and by American Indians. To investigate the dyeability of Korean native lichens, 10 kinds of lichen were collected and colorants were extracted from them by boiling in water and fermenting in ammonia water. Silk fabrics were dyed with lichen extract, then the colour differences of dyed silk fabrics were measured before and after color fastness test. The most part of the lichen extracts(Fc, Hh, Me, Pl, Xm, Pr, Cj, Ld, Ry) dyed silk yellowish or reddish brown. The range of colors were 2.4Y 6.5∼10YR 6/7. Pa extract dyed silk purple(1.25RP 5/6). Color differences of laundered specimen with the silk before laundering were very small, but color of the dyed silks after exposing to light showed big differences with the specimen before exposing to light. The colors of the silks dyed with lichens changed from yellowish or reddish brown to greenish brown by laundering and by exposing to light. But the specimen dyed Pa extract changed from purple to blueish purple by laundering and reddish purple by exposing to light.
The angiontensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptides were separated from beef sarcoplasmic protein extract and their amino acid sequences were identified as GFHI, DFHINQ, FHG, and GLSDGEWQ. The 4 peptides were synthesized in a laboratory and the ACE inhibitory activities of pep tides was measured after 2 months of storage at $4^{\circ}C$ under different pH conditions (6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0) and the exposure of different temperatures (70, 80, 90, and $100^{\circ}C$) for 20 min to evaluate industrial use. No significant difference was detected by pH and temperature abuse for 20 min during storage. When the synthetic peptides were digested by pepsin, trypsin, and chymotrypsin, the ACE inhibitory activity was not changed. These results indicated that the 4 synthetic peptides with ACE inhibitory activity were pH-stable, heat-stable, and resistant to proteinases in gastro-intestinal tracts. Therefore, those 4 peptides can be used as a source for functional food product with various applications.
