  • Several lipases of commercial grade were screened to catalyze the methanolysis of castor oil, and an immobilized Candida antarctica (Novozym 435) had the highest activity among the lipases tested. To enhance the yield of methyl ricinoleate, several reaction parameters were optimized. The optimum temperature was $50^{\circ}C$, and the original water content of lipase was sufficient to maintain the activity of lipase, and additional water supplied inhibited the methanolysis of castor oil. Because the lipase was deactivated by methanol, the reaction was tested by three-step addition of 1 molar equivalent of methanol to the oil. However, the oil was not completely converted to its methyl esters. The final reaction mixture using 3 molar equivalents of methanol to the oil consisted of $70\%$ methyl ricinoleate, $18\%$ monoricinoleate, $11\%$ diricinoleate, and trace triricinoleate at the equilibrium state. The yield of methyl ricinoleate was $97\%$ at 6 molar ratio of methanol to the oil with 300g of castor oil and 6g of immobilized Candida antarctica at $50^{\circ}C$ within 24 h.

  • Penicillin G acylase (PGA) was immobilized on magnetic Fe3O4@chitosan nanoparticles through the Schiff base reaction. The immobilization conditions were optimized as follows: enzyme/support 8.8 mg/g, pH 6.0, time 40 min, and temperature 25 ℃. Under these conditions, a high immobilization efficiency of 75% and a protein loading of 6.2 mg/g-support were obtained. Broader working pH and higher thermostability were achieved by the immobilization. In addition, the immobilized PGA retained 75% initial activity after ten cycles. Kinetic parameters Vmax and Km of the free and immobilized PGAs were determined as 0.113 mmol/min/mg-protein and 0.059 mmol/min/mg-protein, and 0.68 mM and 1.19 mM, respectively. Synthesis of amoxicillin with the immobilized PGA was carried out in 40% ethylene glycol at 25 ℃ and a conversion of 72% was obtained. These results showed that the immobilization of PGA onto magnetic chitosan nanoparticles is an efficient and simple way for preparation of stable PGA.

  • Nanosized tungsten carbide powders were synthesized by the chemical vapor condensation(CVC) process using the pyrolysis of tungsten hexacarbonyl($W(CO)_6$). The effect of CVC parameters on the formation and the microstructural change of as-prepared powders were studied by XRD, BET and TEM. The loosely agglomerated nanosized tungsten-carbide($WC_{1-x}$) particles having the smooth rounded tetragonal shape could be obtained below $1000^{\circ}C$ in argon and air atmosphere respectively. The grain size of powders was decreased from 53 nm to 28 nm with increasing reaction temperature. The increase of particle size with reaction temperature represented that the condensation of precursor vapor dominated the powder formation in CVC reactor. The powder prepared at $1000^{\circ}C$ was consisted of the pure W and cubic tungsten-carbide ($WC_{1-x}$), and their surfaces had irregular shape because the pure W was formed on the $WC_{1-x}$ powders. The $WC_{1-x}$ and W powders having the average particles size of about 5 nm were produced in vacuum.

  • 1, 2-Isopropylidene glycerol produced by ketalyzation of glycerol with aceton was esterified with long chain fatty acids in the presence of a Mucor miehei lipase to obtain 1, 2-isopropylidene 3-long chain acyl glycerol. To determine optimal conditions for the esterification reaction, esterification was proceeded as a reversible second-order reaction in various parameters that are enzyme/substrate ratio 0.096g/g at reaction temperatures ranged from $25^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$. The order of reaction rate of fatty acids were lauric acid, myristic acid, oleic acid, and stearic acid. The range of their activation energies were from 7.8 to 11.4 (kcal/mol) and that of entropies of activation which have negative values were from 42.8 to 52.5(e.u.).

  • Muscle based face image synthesis is one of the most realistic approach to realize life-like agent in computer. Facial muscle model is composed of facial tissue elements and muscles. In this model, forces are calculated effecting facial tissue element by contraction of each muscle strength, so the combination of each muscle parameter decide a specific facial expression. Now each muscle parameter is decided on trial and error procedure comparing the sample photograph and generated image using our Muscle-Editor to generate a specific race image. In this paper, we propose the strategy of automatic estimation of facial muscle parameters from 2D marker movement using neural network. This also 3D motion estimation from 2D point or flow information in captered image under restriction of physics based fare model.

  • A 150-fold purified preparation of NADPH-specific glutamate dehydrogenase of Corynebacterium glutamicum (1) was used for the determination of kinetic parameters of the substrates, NADPH, NH$_4$Cl, and $\alpha$-ketoglutarate in the direction of glutamate synthesis. The kinetic constants determined from this study suggest a biosynthetic role for the enzyme, Based on the analysis of the result derived from initial velocity, the reaction mechanism was postulated to be ordered addition with NADPH as a first substrate to bind in the forward direction. Of the several metabolites tested for a possible function in the regulation of glutamate dehydrogenase activity, only malate and citrate were appeared to have an appreciable influence on the enzyme, Potassium chloride showed to be the most effective for the enzyme activity.

  • An octa-functional alkoxyamine initiator, with the 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-l-piperidinyloxy (TEMPO) free radical, was synthesized based on resorcinarene, with its efficiency to initiate the nitroxide-mediated free radical copolymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate (MMA) described. A difunctional analogue of this initiator was also synthesized, using resorcinol as the core molecule. The structures of the resulting initiators were confirmed by homolysis studies based on electron spin resonance spectroscopy and molecular modeling. The polymerization behavior and characteristics of the polymers obtained using these two initiators were also compared. Well-defined star-shaped and linear random copolymers, with low polydispersities and controlled molecular weights, were prepared. The efficiencies of these initiators towards copolymerization, as well as the parameters permitting the formation of well-defined polymers, were also investigated. The reactivity ratios were $r_a=0.42(a=styrene)\;and\;r_b=0.33(b=MMA)$ for the octa-functional initiator system and $r_a=0.45\;and\;r_b=0.39$ for the difunctional initiator system.

  • The complex of the composition LaL(N$O_3)_3\;(H_2O)_2$ is prepared by the reaction of La($NO_3)_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ with Nethylmorpholine in aqueous medium. The ligand is involved in the complex as a neutral species where the chelation occurs via the oxygen of the ligand moiety and the nitrate groups as bidentate ligand. The chemical structure of the studied complex is confirmed through IR, XRD, and thermal analysis data. The complexation equilibria of La(III) with N-ethylmopholine is studied in aqueous medium at ionic strength I = 0.1 mol${\cdot}dm^{-3}\;KNO_3$ and at 25, 35 and 45 ${^{\circ}C}$, respectively. The thermodynamic parameters $\Delta$G, $\Delta$H and $\Delta$S values were calculated to prove the association with the complex formation. It is clearly observed that the process is accompanied by absorption of heat, i.e. endothermic process, while the entropy does not change greatly attributed to the release of constant number of water molecules during chelate formation.

  • A dual-modulus prescaler divides the input signal by one of the moduli according to the control signal. In this paper, a new fast dual-modulus prescaler is proposed. The proposed prescaler has a ratioed-NOR structure different from a conventional ratioed-NAND structure. The proposed one can operate at a higher speed by using parallely connected NMOSs instead of using series-connected ones. HSPICE simulation results using HYUNDAI 0.65(m 2-poly 2-metal CMOS process parameters show that the maximum operating frequency of the proposed dual-modulus prescaler is 2.8㎓ with power consumption of 40.7㎽ at 5V supply voltage at $25^{\circ}C$. The proposed dual-modulus prescaler can be utilized for the frequency-synthesis in cellular radio front-ends.
