  • Statistical design of experiments was used to optimize the MOF-5 synthesis process. A mixture design was employed to optimize precursor concentration. The optimal composition of three chemical materials, terephthalic acid, zinc acetate dihydrate, and N,N-dimethylformamide for MOF-5 synthesis was determined by extreme vertices design methods as follows; 1 mol : 2.7 mol : 40 mol. A multilevel factorial design was selected to screen the significance of synthesis reaction conditions such as temperature, time, and stirring speed. Statistical analysis results suggested excluding stirring speed from further investigation. Using a central composition design, the synthesis time and temperature were optimized. The quadratic model equation was derived from 13 synthesis experiments. The model predicted that MOF-5 synthesized at 119 ℃ for 10.4 h had the highest crystallinity.

  • Response surface method was applied to the predicting optimum conditions of benzene synthesis for radiocarbon dating. The weight of carbon dioxide, the temperature of lithium container for producing acetylene and the activation temperature of catalyst which was used for the cyclization of acetylene to benzene were used as experimental factors. The yields of benzene synthesis were measured from twelve experiments which were carried out under various experimental conditions. The polynomial equation was obtained by using three experimental factors and yields. The validity of polynomial equation was confirmed by comparing the calculated yields with the experimental ones.

  • This paper proposes an enhanced adaptive genetic algorithm(EAGA) dedicated to pattern synthesis of array antenna which conforms to a curved surface of rotation with quadratic function. EAGA combines adaptive genetic algorithm(AGA) with invasive weed optimization(IWO) for the faster convergence and the lower cost value of the cost function. The amplitude and phase of each excited weighting factor are optimized to meet the required goals using EAGA. The EAGA results indicate that the proposed algorithm is superior to AGA when applied to the problem of conformal array antenna pattern synthesis.

  • An efficient optimization procedure combining the frequency approximation technique and the component-mode synthesis method is proposed for the structural dynamic optimization of the large structures subject to prescribed natural frequency constraints. Frequency constraints are approximated by using the first-order sensitivities with respect to both design parameters and their reciprocals. The component-mode synthesis method proposed by the authors in Ref.[8] is used for the repetitive detail finite-element analysis and sensitivity analysis. The validity of the proposed optimization procedure is confirmed through the numerical implementation of some examples. The presented approximation technique requires much smaller number of repetitive analysis than that using the sensitivities with respect to design parameters only, and further improvement in the numerical efficiency is achieved by the adoption of the introduced component-mode synthesis.

  • The mechanism synthesis methods, graphical, analytical and computer-aided technique have been proposed for selecting and scaling mechanical system. According to developing computation tools, mechanism could be synthesized much faster and more correct than previous analytical ways by improved techniques. In this paper, the improved synthesis method is proposed to solve body guidance synthesis problem. To perform the mechanism synthesis for body guidance, a planar linkage is modeled as a set of free three bushings located in design space. The values of bushing stiffness and x, y position of bushings yielding a desired functional requirement related to input motion are found by using an optimization technique.

  • Recently engineering systems problems become quite large and complicated. For those problems, design requirements are fairly complex. It is not easy to design such systems by considering only one discipline. Therefore, we need a design methodology that can consider various disciplines. Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) is an emerging optimization method to include multiple disciplines. So far, about seven MDO methodologies have been proposed for MDO. They are Multidisciplinary Feasible (MDF), Individual Feasible (IDF), All-at-Once (AAO), Concurrent Subspace Optimization (CSSO), Collaborative Optimization (CO), Bi-Level Integrated System Synthesis (BLISS) and Multidisciplinary Optimization Based on Independent Subspaces (MDOIS). In this research, the performances of the methods are evaluated and compared. Practical engineering problems may not be appropriate for fairness. Therefore, mathematical problems are developed for the comparison. Conditions for fair comparison are defined and the mathematical problems are defined based on the conditions. All the methods are coded and the performances of the methods are compared qualitatively as well as quantitatively.

  • (R)-2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propionic acid (HPOPA) is a key intermediate for the preparation of aryloxyphenoxypropionic acid herbicides (R-isomer). In order to improve the HPOPA production from the substrate (R)-2-phenoxypropionic acid (POPA) with Beauveria bassiana CCN-A7, static cultivation and H2O2 addition were attempted and found to be conducive to the task at hand. This is the first report on HPOPA production under static cultivation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) induction. On this premise, the cultivation conditions and fermentation medium compositions were optimized. As a result, the optimal carbon source, organic nitrogen source, and inorganic nitrogen source were determined to be glucose, peptone, and ammonium sulfate, respectively. The optimal inoculum size and fermentation temperature were 13.3% and 28℃, respectively. The significant factors including glucose, peptone, and H2O2, identified based on Plackett-Burman design, were further optimized through Central Composite Design (CCD). The optimal concentrations were as follows: glucose 38.81 g/l, peptone 7.28 g/l, and H2O2 1.08 g/l/100 ml. Under the optimized conditions, HPOPA titer was improved from 9.60 g/l to 19.53 g/l, representing an increase of 2.03-fold. The results obtained in this work will provide novel strategies for improving the biosynthesis of hydroxy aromatics.

  • Synthesis of zeolite 4A was carried out to optimize the nanoparticle synthesis process using statistical experimental design method. The zeolite 4A was synthesized by controlling the concentration of the silicon precursor, sodium metasilicate (SMS), and characterized by XRD, SEM and nitrogen adsorption. In particular, the property of zeolite 4A can be determined by XRD analysis. Using the general factor analysis in the design of experiments, we analyzed main effects and interactions according to the reactor, reaction temperature and reaction time. The optimum reaction condition for the synthesis of zeolite 4A crystallinity was using an autoclave for 3 hours at $110^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the optimal synthesis conditions of zeolite 4A with various crystallinity using Ludox as a silicon precursor were presented of what using both the surface and contour plot.

  • The majority of previous studios on tolerance synthesis have viewed the issue as a design methodology to determine optimal component tolerances on behalf of a manufacturer. while meeting given assembly tolerance requirements Although a considerable amount of research has been done on this issue. a couple of important questions still remain unanswered First. how ran a design engineer quantitatively incorporate a customer's perception on a product quality into a tolerance synthesis scheme at the early design stage Second. how ran component tolerances and assembly tolerance be optimized in a simultaneous way? To answer these questions. this article presents the customer-driven concurrent tolerance synthesis which is facilitated by the notion of truncated distribution and the use of mathematical programming techniques. while adopting the major principles of Tagurhl philosophy. The work presented in the article is an effort to gain insight, which can be useful in practice when setting up guidelines for an overall tolerance synthesis.

  • In these days. the finite element method(FEM) is a very common method for not only a simple vibration analysis but also the optimization of structures. Since the finite element model may contain thousands of degree of freedom, the eigensolutions require extreme computing power, which will result in a serious time-consuming problem. Thus, many researchers have challenged to find more improved modeling techniques and calculating methods to overcome such problems. The Guyan reduction method and the substructure synthesis method are typical examples of such methods. Of the substructure synthesis method, the component mode synthesis method (CMS) is widely used for dynamic analysis of structure. In this study. for the efficient analysis of jet loom structure. Component Mode Synthesis was carried out. The results of the finite element program developed are compared with those of the commercial package program ANSYS for the validation of the program. The results obtained by the program showed a good agreement with those of ANSYS. The program will be further refined and verified by test to yield more accurate results.
