  • The analysis category of Art to Wear was text analyzed from the research material of 100 projects put together by fashion specialist. The conclusion of Art to Wear was comprehended the general features of it were compared and analyzed from a semiotics context. According to this analysis, the formative features of modern Art to Wear is categorized into three different dimensions from a semiotics light. The formative features of modem Art to Wear in the light of syntactic dimension was divided as an open constructed shape of Space Extension, non-typical Deformation, Geometrical Plasticity. The formative features of modem Art to Wear in the light of semantic dimension express symbolic meaning through metaphorical sign. These sign reflect the body image of the life and death and its objective of Abjection, Hybrid of discultural appearance and the image of Hyper-reality, which are features used to comprehend the inner meaning. The formative features of modem Art to Wear in the light of pragmatic dimension divided the artist emotion and meaning system delivered by Emotive Image, the Phatic Image that arouse inner signification and the Poetic Image which contain artistic and aesthetic meaning within it.

  • This study has two main purposes. One is to explore the relationship between syntactic aspects and prosodic aspects in Standard Korean. The other is to provide speech synthesis with the information about such relationship. This study will focus on the prosodic behavior of subjective particles'-i/-ga', '-eun/-neun'. The prosodic features of subjective particles are described respectively. How do the elements such as the position of particles in a sentence, the sentence constituents, the length of the sentence and the rhythmic boundaries influence on the prosodic behavior are also investigated.

  • This paper discusses mixed agreement triggered by hybrid pronouns. Hybrid pronouns considered in this paper show number discrepancy in that they are plural in form but singular in meaning. When predicates agree with these hybrid pronouns, the puzzle of number agreement arises: finite verbs show syntactic agreement, while predicate adjectives show semantic agreement. This is explained by three factors in grammar of agreement, the feature specification of agreement controllers, the types of agreement targets, and the Agreement Marking Principle that mediates the relation of two poles of agreement, controllers and targets.

Abstract In this paper, we propose a Korean feature-based grammar(KFG) which adopts the X-bar theoretic notion of headedness for a precise representation of Korean syntactic structure. In order to explain various language phenomena in a given sentence, we use not the word but the morpheme as a constituent unit of KFG. We use features manifesting both the syntactic information and the semantic information of Korean syntactic categories, and feature operations based on the association relationship between two categories. In addition, we restrict feature operations to CNF(Chomsky Normal Form) binary form, which provides a robust representation for properties in Korean such as the frequent ellipsis and the partial free-order. The KFG is intuitive, simple, and versatile in representing most Korean sentences. The experimental result shows 94%~99% coverage on 746 sentences extracted from SERI Test Suites 97 and newspaper sentences.

  • This paper discusses the structural and meaning features of causative from/for V-ing constructions as complement and provides insight on their grammatical characteristics revealed from alternation between prepositions for and from in nonfinite V-ing complement clause constructions. Guided by empirical data, this paper demonstrates that there are three types of syntactic patterns classified by the main verbs in these constructions and that these three syntactic types are closely linked with the meaning. These classifications are supported by the passivizations and aspect. In addition, this paper suggests that the function of for and from followed by nonfinite V-ing clause should be treated as a preposition introducing nonfinite V-ing clauses.

  • In this work, we have presented ATSA, a hierarchical attention deep learning model for Arabic sentiment analysis. ATSA was proposed by addressing several challenges and limitations that arise when applying the classical models to perform opinion mining in Arabic. Arabic-specific challenges including the morphological complexity and language sparsity were addressed by modeling semantic composition at the Arabic morphological analysis after performing tokenization. ATSA proposed to perform phrase-chunks sentiment embedding to provide a broader set of features that cover syntactic, semantic, and sentiment information. We used phrase structure parser to generate syntactic parse trees that are used as a reference for ATSA. This allowed modeling semantic and sentiment composition following the natural order in which words and phrase-chunks are combined in a sentence. The proposed model was evaluated on three Arabic corpora that correspond to different genres (newswire, online comments, and tweets) and different writing styles (MSA and dialectal Arabic). Experiments showed that each of the proposed contributions in ATSA was able to achieve significant improvement. The combination of all contributions, which makes up for the complete ATSA model, was able to improve the classification accuracy by 3% and 2% on Tweets and Hotel reviews datasets, respectively, compared to the existing models.

  • Most approaches to human action recognition is limited due to the use of simple action datasets under controlled environments or focus on excessively localized features without sufficiently exploring the spatio-temporal information. This paper proposed a framework for recognizing realistic human actions. Specifically, a new action representation is proposed based on computing a rich set of descriptors from keypoint trajectories. To obtain efficient and compact representations for actions, we develop a feature fusion method to combine spatial-temporal local motion descriptors by the movement of the camera which is detected by the distribution of spatio-temporal interest points in the clips. A new topic model called Markov Semantic Model is proposed for semantic feature selection which relies on the different kinds of dependencies between words produced by "syntactic " and "semantic" constraints. The informative features are selected collaboratively based on the different types of dependencies between words produced by short range and long range constraints. Building on the nonlinear SVMs, we validate this proposed hierarchical framework on several realistic action datasets.

  • The main goal of this paper is to investigate and compare English, German and Korean non-head-bound-intensifiers such as English ‘x-self’, German ‘selbst’, and Korean ‘susulo, casin’. That is, this paper is mainly concerned with the semantic domain where the respective contributions of the expressions in question overlap. The phenomenon under discussion with the label “intensifiers” is regarded as universal, which provides the ground of the comparative/contrastive or semi-cross-linguistic study of this paper. Not only the semantic concept of intensification by these expressions but also the combination of grammatical features or syntactic behaviours thereof seem to have highly invariant common denominators among the wide varieties of languages, even if they come from apparently different language families. In comparing English, German and Korean intensifiers, this paper is interested in the more general features of the expressions in question rather than some language-specific idiocyncracies. Intensifiers work similarly not only in English and German, but also in Korean. Each of three languages under investigation provides some sort of a safegard against confusing instances and misleading judgements on the issues under discussion. Morphologically, however, English expressions in question agree with their rele-vant NP in number, gender and person. Whereas German and Korean counterparts do not have such specific morphological properties. Intensifiers in their non-head-bound-use are subject-oriented, just as in their head-bound use. Non-head-bound-intensifiers differ from head-bound-intensifiers mostly in their syntactic behaviours or distributional properties, whereas they share the semantic domain “intensification” regarding relevant subject-NP. They introduce an ordering and distinguish center and periphery, and ‘self-involvement (directness of involvement)’seems a additional possible characterisation of the relevant dimension of these intensifiers in common. An assertion of identity also can be reg

  • Proper prosody in reading allows the reader to naturally convey the meaning, which manifests as changes in pitch, loudness, and speech rate. Children with reading disability face difficulty in delivering information due to poor prosody. This study identified the difference in prosodic features between children with reading disabilities and nondisabled children through means of reading tasks. Reading tasks, according to sentence types (short sentences, assumptions/conditions, intentions, relative-clause), were recorded by 15 children studying in the 3rd to 6th grade in elementary school. Children with reading disability had a statistically significant wider range of pitch, slower speech rate, more frequent usage of pauses, longer total pause duration, and steeper pitch slope than nondisabled one in sentence-final and -medial words. Children with reading disability, therefore, exhibited a less natural and expressive reading than nondisabled children. Through this study, the characteristics of prosody observed in children with reading disability were identified and the need for an approach for effective intervention was also suggested.

  • In this paper we describe a new data modeling language we call $O^{2}LDM$. $O^{2}LDM$ incorporates features from object-oriented and logic approaches. In $O^{2}LDM$ there is a rich collection of objects organized in a type hierarchy. It is possible to compose queries that involve field selection, function application and other constructs which transcend the usual, strictly syntactic, matching of PROLOG. We give the features of $O^{2}LDM$ and motivate its utility for conceptual modeling. We have a prototype implementation for the language, which we have written in ML. In this paper we describe an executable semantics of the deductive process used in the language. We work some examples to illustrate the expressive power of the language, and compare $O^{2}LDM$ to PROLOG.
