This paper describes a development of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) and driver for electric vehicle (EV) which is driven by 2 motors without differential gear. A inverter is designed to drive 2 motors with 6 legs IGBT switches in a control board. Also vector control algorithm is implemented with maximum torque control method in the constant torque region and field weakening control method considering inverter capacity in the constant power region. Prototype IPMSM and inverter have been developed. To verify dynamic characteristics of the those about torque to speed and efficiency etc. We are making an experiment on that. Though that is not completed, we will show results to be acquired.
Mechanical and electrical parameter uncertainties cause dynamic and static estimation errors of the rotor speed and position, resulting in performance deterioration of sensorless control systems. This paper applies an extended nonlinear observer to interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) for the simultaneous estimation of the rotor speed and position. Two compensation methods are proposed to improve the observer performance against parameter uncertainties: an on-line rotational inertia adjustment approach that employs the gradient descent algorithm to suppress dynamic estimation errors, and an equivalent flux error compensation approach to eliminate static estimation errors caused by inaccurate electrical parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated by experimental tests.
This paper deals with the static analysis on the permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSM) using transfer relation theorem according to the shaft materials, and adopts the analytical method to predict the magnetic field distribution and to calculate the electrical parameters by using Transfer Relation Theorem(TRT) in terms of 2-D model in polar coordinates system. In addition, the three types of PMSMS with different types of shafts, which are Iron cored, Air cored, Full-ring permanent magnet type shaft, are suggested in this research, and with those models, not only the analysis on the magnetic field distribution, the estimation of electrical parameters, but also their comparison with Finite Element Analysis(FEA) is processed.

Interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) produce both magnetic and reluctance torques. The reluctance torque is due to the difference between the d- and q-axis inductances based on the geometric rotor structure. The steady-state performance analysis and precise control of the IPMSMs greatly depend on the accurate determination of the parameters. The three essential parameters of the IPMSMs are the armature flux linkage of the permanent magnet, the d-axis inductance, and the q-axis inductance. In the basic design step of an IPMSM, the inductance parameters are very important for determining the motor characteristics, such as the input voltage, torque, and efficiency. Thus, it is very important to accurately estimate the values of the motor inductances. The inductance parameters of IPMSMs have nonlinear characteristics along the magnet size because the iron core is saturated by the magnet and armature reaction fluxes. In this study, the inductance parameters were calculated using both the magnetic-equivalent-circuit method and the finite-element method (FEM). Then the calculated parameters were compensated by the saturation coefficient function, which was also calculated via the magnetic-equivalent-circuit method and FEM.

Hybrid electric vehicles have attracted much attention of late, emphasizing the necessity of developing traction motors with a high input current and a wide speed range. Among such traction motors, various researches have been conducted on interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) with high power density and mechanical solidity. Due to the complexity of its parameters, however, with nonlinear motor characteristics and current vector control, it is actually difficult to accurately estimate the base speed within an actual operating speed range or a voltage limit. Moreover, it is impossible to construct an efficiency map as the efficiency differs according to the control mode. In this study, a simulation method for operation performance considering the nonlinearity of IPMSM was proposed. For this, datasets of various nonlinear parameters were made via the finite-element method and interpolation. Maximum torque-per-ampere and flux-weakening control were accurately simulated using the datasets, and an IPMSM efficiency map was accurately constructed based on the simulation. Lastly, the validity of the simulation was verified through tests.
In this paper, the propulsion control of a high-speed maglev train is studied. Electromagnetic suspension is used to levitate the vehicle, and linear synchronous motors (LSM) are used for propulsion. In general, a low-speed maglev train uses a linear induction motor (LIM) for propulsion that is operated under 300[km/h] due to the power-collecting and end-effect problem of LIM. In case of the high-speed maglev train over 500[km/h], a linear synchronous motor (LSM) is more suitable than LIM because of a high-efficiency and high-output properties. An optical barcode positioning system is used to obtain the absolute position of the vehicle due to its wide working distance and ease of installation. However, because the vehicle is working completely contactless, the position measured on the vehicle has to be transmitted to the ground for propulsion control via wireless communication. For this purpose, Bluetooth is used and communication hardware is designed. A propulsion controller using a digital signal processor (DSP) in the ground receives the delayed position information, calculates the required currents, and controls the stator currents through inverters. The performance of the implemented propulsion control is analyzed with a small maglev train which was manufactured for experiments, and the applicability of the high-speed maglev train will be explored.

Stator turn faults in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are more dangerous than those in induction motors (IMs) because of the presence of spinning rotor magnets that can be turned off at will. Condition monitoring and fault detection and diagnosis of the PMSM have been receiving a growing amount of attention among scientists and engineers in the past few years. The aim of this study is to propose a new detection technique of stator winding faults in a three-phase PMSM. This technique is based on the image analysis and recognition of the stator current Concordia patterns, and will allow the identification of turn faults in the stator winding as well as its correspondent fault index severity. A test bench of a vector controlled PMSM motor behaviors under short circuited turn in two phases stator windings has been built. Some experimental results of the phase to phase short circuits have been performed for diagnosis purpose.

In this paper, we propose cascade-form velocity controller for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The proposed controller consists of a sliding-mode controller (SMC) for the inner current control loop and a model-predictive controller (MPC) for the outer velocity control loop. With SMC, we can ensure that the current tracking error always converges to zero in finite time. The SMC is designed to track the desired currents. Additionally, with MPC, we can obtain the optimal velocity control input which minimizes the cost function. Constraint conditions for input and input variation are included in the MPC design. The simulation results are included to validate the performance of the proposed controller.

In this paper, we present a comparative analysis of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSM) and interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM). First, we use 2D finite element analysis (FEA) to analyze models satisfying the same rated conditions according to the torque-speed curve characteristics, which are determined from the operating conditions. Next, we manufacture an SPMSM and IPMSM having good performances from an electromagnetic perspective based on analysis results, namely the cogging torque, torque ripple, and efficiency. We analyze both of the manufactured machines when they are connected back-to-back and when they are used as a motor and a generator, respectively. The motor is driven by a commercial inverter and the generator is connected to a three-phase resistance load bank. Finally, based on experimental results, which include the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the back electro-motive force (EMF), cogging torque, efficiency, and mass, we determine the motor that is most suitable under requirements.

This paper proposes a sensorless speed control algorithm for parallel-connected dual Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (SPMSMs) fed by a single inverter. For stable parallel operation of synchronous motors with a single inverter, each motor has to be constantly kept in the synchronization state regardless of load torque. If the master motor with the larger load is controlled, the synchronous state will be maintained. Therefore, detection of the master motor is essential. Conventionally, the master motor is determined by comparing the rotor position error from the relation between the back-EMF for torque angle and the flux position; consequently, the position sensor is deemed essential for finding the rotor position. The parallel sensorless speed control method proposed in this paper uses no position sensor, instead it compares the flux-axis current from the connection between the back-EMF for torque angle and current in unbalanced load conditions. The results of simulation and experiment conducted verify the efficacy of the proposed method.
