  • In this paper, we design and analyze a mutual exclusion algorithm, based on the Token and Failure detector, in asynchronous distributed systems. A Failure Detector is an independent module that detects and reports crashes of other processes. There are some of advantages in rewriting the Token-based ME algorithm using a Failure Detector. We show that the Token-based ME algorithm, when using Failure Detector, is more effectively implemented than the classic Token-based ME algorithm for synchronous distributed systems.

  • Messages in distributed real-time systems are categorized into two groups: synchronous messages and asynchronous messages. Synchronous messages, such as sampled audio and image data, are generated periodically with delivery time constraints. Protocols should guarantee the end-to-enddeadlines for such messages. Asynchronous messages are non-periodic and may arrive in a randomway with no strict time constraints. In this paper, we propose TTP/C(timed token protocol with concession), an extension of TTPprotocol, to achieve higher timeliness guarantee for synchronous messages in distributed real-timesystems. In TTP/C, a node concedes the allocated bandwidth to other nodes with urgent synchronousmessages to be sent provided that the node has no urgent messages, TTP/C works very well evenif the synchronous messages are generated with some jittering by nodes. The simulation results showthe improved performance of TTP/C protocol for guaranteeing synchronous messages deadlinescomeared to the existing TTP protocols.

  • In this paper, we propose an election protocol based on mobile ad-hoc network. In distributed systems, a group of computer should continue to do cooperation in order to finish some jobs. In such a system, an election protocol is especially practical and important elements to provide processes in a group with a consistent common knowledge about the membership of the group. Whenever a membership change occurs, processes should agree on which of them should do to accomplish an unfinished job or begins a new job. The problem of electing a leader is very same with the agreeing common predicate in a distributed system such as the consensus problem. Based on the termination detection protocol that is traditional one in asynchronous distributed systems, we present the new election protocol in distributed systems that are based on MANET, i.e. mobile ad hoc network.

  • This paper investigates the impacts of array weight errors (AWE) in an antenna array (AA) on a parallel interference cancellation (PIC) receiver in uplink synchronous and asynchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. The performance degradation due to an AWE, which is approximated by a Gaussian distributed random variable, is estimated as a function of the variance of the AWE. Theoretical analysis, confirmed by simulation, demonstrates the tradeoffs encountered between system parameters such as the number of antennas and the variance of the AWE in terms of the achievable average bit error rate and the user capacity. Numerical results show that the performance of the PIC with the AA in the DS-CDMA uplink is sensitive to the AWE. However, either a larger number of antennas or uplink synchronous transmissions have the potential of reducing the overall sensitivity, and thus improving its performance.

  • This paper deals with a precise position synchronous control by a cooperative control method of two axes rotating systems. First, the system's dynamics including motor drives described by a motor circuit equation and Newton's kinetic formulation about rotating system. Next, based on conventional PID(Proportional, Integral, Derivative) control law, current and speed controller are designed very simply to follow up reference speed correctly under some disturbances. Also, position synchronous controller designed to minimize position errors according to integration of speed errors between two motors. Then, the proposed control enables the distributed drives by a software control algorithm to behave in a way as if they are mechanically hard coupled in axes. Further, the stabilities and robustness or the proposed system are investigated. Finally, the proposed system presented here is shown to be more precise position synchronous motion than conventional systems through some simulations and experiments.

  • Distributed Generation (DG) is predicted to play a important role in electric power system in the near future. insertion of DG system into existing distribution network has great impact on real-time system operation and planning. It is widely accepted that micro turbine generation (MTG) systems are currently attracting lot of attention to meet customers need in the distributed power generation market. In order to investigate the performance of MT generation systems, their efficient modeling is required. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of a MT generation system suitable for isolated operation. The system comprises of a Permanent magnet synchronous generator driven by a MT. A brief description of the overall system is given, and mathematical models for the MT and permanent magnet synchronous generator are presented. Also, the use of power electronics in conditioning the power output of the generating system is demonstrated. Simulation studies with MATLAB/Simulink have been carried out in islanding operation mode of a DG system.

  • In modern power systems, distributed generators (DGs) result in high stress on system frequency stability. Apart from the intermittent nature of DGs, most DGs do not contribute inertia or damping to systems. As a result, a new control method referred to as a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) has been proposed, which brought new characteristics to inverters such as synchronous machines (SM). DGs employing an energy storage system (ESS) provide inertia and damping through VSM control. Meanwhile, energy storage presents some physical constraints in the VSM implementation level. In this paper, a VSM mathematical model is built and analyzed. The dynamic responses of the output active power are presented when a step change in the frequency occurs. The influences of the inertia constant, damping factor and operating point on the ESS volume margins are investigated. In addition, physical constraints are proposed based on these analyses. The proposed physical constraints are simulated using PSCAD/EMTDC software and tested through RTDS experiment. Both simulation and RTDS test results verify the analysis.

  • The choice of a suitable distributed file system is required for loading large data and high-speed processing through subsequent applications in a cloud environment. In this paper, we propose a write performance improvement method based on GlusterFS and evaluate the performance of MapRFS, CephFS and GlusterFS among existing distributed file systems in cloud environment. The write performance improvement method proposed in this paper enhances the response time by changing the synchronization level used by the synchronous replication method from disk to memory. Experimental results show that the distributed file system to which the proposed method is applied is superior to other distributed file systems in the case of sequential write, random write and random read.
