In this paper, we study an optimum design of search synchronization structure for Baseband Modem to support ISO/IEC 18185-5 and 24730-2 Standard. For DSSS Modem, we design the code acquisition and tracking structure which are important in receiver operation, and examine the parameters to be considered. The data and PN chip transmission rates and processing gain of the proposed modem are 59.7 kbps, 30.521875 Mcps, and 27 dB, respectively. This indicates that the noise immunity of the proposed modem is 17dB better than IEEE 802.11b (Processing gain : 10dB). Therefore, we design the optimum structure for the modem search synchronization which is compatible to the proposed modem standard.

The pilot bit pattern of W-CDMA system is used for the channel estimation and frame synchronization confirmation. This paper proposes the binary sequences for the frame synchronization for wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) system. We present the circuit for the generation of ideal frame synchronization property using the binary sequences called frame synchronization word(FSW). W-CDMA system uses compressed mode where up to 7 slots per one 10 msec frame are not transmitted to make measurements from another frequency without a full dual receiver terminal. It is shown that the proposed frame synchronization words also maintain the optimal frame synchronization property in the compressed mode by using the complementary mapping relationship of preferred pair. And we discuss the realization circuit for the generation of frame synchronization words by using the concept of preferred pairs, complementary mapping relationship, and maximal length sequence.

A power line modem(PLM) which transfers data safely through power lines in houses or small offices is considered. When a power line is used for communications, transmitted signals could be affected by the channel characteristics such as frequency-selective fading, interference, and time-varying attenuation. In order to overcome these impairments, a direct sequence(DS) technique which is well known as an effective instrument against a variety of interferences and hostile channel properties is employed. Using a DS technique, however, requires more circuits such as PN code generator circuits, code modification circuits, and complicated synchronization circuits, and it also results in substantial acquisition delay. In this paper, some of these circuits are implemented via software programmed in the system controller, and the complicated synchronization circuits are replaced by simple circuits utilizing a 60 Hz power signal for synchronization. The synchronization ciruits used in this paper virtually eliminate the substantial acquisition delay, and is also designed to free influence of 60 Hz zero crossing jitters which reside in a power signal. As a result, a PLM using a DS technique is realized in the form of wall-socket plug, and the PLM hardware would be very much simplified.

In general DGPS system, the correction message is transferred to users by wireless modem. To cover wide area, many DGPS station should be needed. And DGPS users must have a wireless modem that is not necessary in standalone GPS. But SBAS users don't need a wireless modem to receive DGPS corrections because SBAS correction message is transmitted from the GEO satellite by L1 frequency band. SBAS signal is generated in the GUS(Geo Uplink Subsystem) and uplink to the GEO satellite. This uplink transmission process causes two problems that are not existed in GPS. The one is a time delay in the uplink signal. The other is an ionospheric problem on uplink signal, code delay and carrier phase advance. These two problems cause ranging error to user. Another critical ranging error factor is clock synchronization. SBAS reference clock must be synchronized with GPS clock for an accurate ranging service. The time delay can be removed by close loop control. We propose uplink ionospheric error correcting algorithm for C/A code and carrier. As a result, the ranging accuracy increased high. To synchronize SBAS reference clock with GPS clock, I reviewed synchronization algorithm. And I modified it because the algorithm didn't consider doppler that caused by satellites' dynamics. SBAS reference clock synchronized with GPS clock in high accuracy by modified algorithm. We think that this paper will contribute to basic research for constructing satellite based DGPS system.

Conventioally the decoding methods and the design of coset codes for burst synchronization and error detection have been based on the concept that slips occuring to the right or to the left with respect to a reference timing are corrected. In this paper we newly approach to the design of coset codes relying on the condition that only a single code word can exists in an observation interval, which provides an extentended view on the conventional approach. A theorem concerning the condition is presented. A combined burst synchronization and error detection system with maximum slip correction capability have been devised based on the theorem and a detection method is falsely accepted in the presented of channel errors. The false acceptance probabilities of the system are derived and its performance is analyzed through computer computation using the derived results.

In Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems, timing synchronization in uplink is accomplished by an initial uplink synchronization called an initial ranging process. The Base Station's receiver synchronizes the symbol timing to specific user's symbol and the other user's symbols have some Symbol Timing Offset (STO). Linear phase shift is occurred by each user's STO in an OFDMA symbol. The Multiple Access Interference (MAI) caused by the summation of each user's linear phase shift degrades the performance of ranging code detection. In this paper, we propose an initial ranging symbol structure with common ranging code for phase shift estimation and compensation. We car estimate the average of phase shift that is generated by each user's STO and compensate this phase shift by using common ranging code. This scheme will suppress the MAI and provide better detection performance than conventional process.

In this paper, effect of antenna diversity on pseudorandom noise (PN) code acquisition performance is analyzed and simulated for a direct sequence/code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) overlay system where a CDMA user and a narrowband user coexist in the same frequency band. From the simulation results, it is shown that the antenna diversity is very effective in improving the PN acquisition performance. The results of this paper can be applied to design of synchronization scheme for a DS/CDMA overlay environment.
The Davey-MacKay construction is a promising concatenated coding scheme involving an outer $2^k$-ary code and an inner code of rate k/n, for insertion-deletion-substitution channels. Recently, a lookup table (LUT)-based inner decoder for this coding scheme was proposed to reduce the computational complexity of the inner decoder, albeit at the expense of a slight degradation in word error rate (WER) performance. In this letter, we show that negligible deterioration in WER performance can be achieved with an LUT as small as $7{\cdot}2^{k+n-1}$, but no smaller, when the probability of receiving less than n-1 or greater than n+1 bits corresponding to one outer code symbol is at least an order of magnitude smaller than the WER when no LUT is used.

The navigation system like GPS which is core technology is based on Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA) techniques. To receive satellite signal smoothly in CDMA, received signals have to synchronize with spread code. In this paper, we focus on the code tracking methods among synchronization techniques. The conventional delay lock loop(DLL) is unsuitable for multi-path channel. We will introduce how it overcomes distortion by multi-path. We will propose method that separates out multi-path signals and tracks the each path signals. And we will confirm performance of proposed method using Spirent simulator.

In general, two way satellite communication systems based on TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) require network clock synchronization between hub station and remote terminals. This paper describes basic concepts for network clock synchronization based on NCR(Network Clock Reference) clock recovery scheme as suggested in DVB-S2/ RCS2 international standards. in addition, a new NCR insertion method has been proposed and evaluated in terms of supporting CCM mode as well as ACM mode which optimizes throughput by changing code rates and modulation types ranging from QPSK to 32-APSK.
