  • Objective : The aim of this study is to identify the relationship between childhood abuse and affective symptom including resilience in patients with depression or anxiety. Methods : A total 256 outpatients diagnosed with depressive disorder or anxiety disorder according to DSM IV-TR, were evaluated with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Scale (PCCTS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Independent t-test, Chi-square analysis and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were performed to identify the demographics of patients and the relationship between affective symptoms including resilience and childhood abuse. Results : Among demographic and clinical variables, patients with childhood abuse history were significantly higher rate in patients who were living alone and unemployed. In affective symptoms, patients with childhood abuse history were significant more severe in depressive symptoms, and state anxiety score than patients without history of childhood abuse. Patients with childhood abuse history had higher score for trait anxiety and lower score for resilience than patients who had no history of childhood abuse. Conclusion : These finding suggest that history of childhood abuse might be risk factor on depressive and anxiety symptoms severity. And this might be a predictable factor of poor treatment outcome.

  • Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in children and adolescents are influenced by diverse psychiatric components such as psychosocial stresses, familial environment, school-related situations, and comorbid psychiatric conditions. Absolutely psychiatric symptoms of pediatric patients are also affected by problems of GI system. Lots of symptoms including anorexia, dyspepsia, nausea and so on are commonly originated from either GI or psychiatric causes or both. Sometimes the negative interactions between GI and psychiatric problems aggravate the severity and eventually decline the functions of children and adolescents with GI symptoms. We summarized the common GI and psychiatric conditions which have GI and psychiatric associations. To a clinician who manages pediatric GI disorders, psychiatric considerations can be beneficial to understand the clinical manifestations of patients and to find the way to relieve them. This short and somewhat superficial review may help to have a bird's-eye view on this topic.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between mental health status, stress, coping ability, and coping strategies of college students. Methods: The questionnaires were handed out to 162 college students in the Gyeonggi province. Data was collected using the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) scale of the 90 items, the 'Person in the Rain' drawing test, and the 20-item coping strategies questions. Results: 17.3% of the respondents were belonged to the groups of abnormal or abnormal tendency in the mental health status according to the Global Severity Index (GSI) scores. The clinical/border groups were more commonly used in the 'emotion-focused' coping strategies compared to the normal group. This difference was also statistically significant. Both coping resource and coping ability were significantly associated with the mental health status. Conclusions: These findings suggest that future intervention for effective coping strategies should be carefully designed to promote better mental health among college students. It is also important to detect problematic and weak student's behaviors in the early stages.

  • In this research, SSQ is used to validate and explore effective indices for VR sickness and to diagnose the severity of each symptom. Therefore, this research used first, third person game and $360^{\circ}$ actual content which are mainly used in existing VR contents, and measured various sickness symptoms using SSQ. Also, according to the result of statistical analysis, increased the power and contribute to identify virtual reality sickness measurement method. In addition, this research examined the difference of gender, age and the experience of virtual reality using statistical methodology, and improved diagnostic capability.

And we observed the. findings of bone scan with 99mTc-MDP in two snake bite patients. First patient was bitten in the right ankle with local pain and swelling. The finding of bone scan of him was increased uptake of radionuclide in the soft tissue of right leg and thigh. Others were normal findings. Second patient was bitten in the right hand. But his symptom was severe and he complained local pain and swelling, nausea, blurred vision, and oliguria. The bone scan findings of second patient was; Increased uptake of radionuclide in the soft tissue of whole body. Decreased uptake in the bone tissue. Renal outline was not delineated. • Purpose: This study was aimed to identify the incidence and severity of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) among patients with hematologic malignancies and to examine the relationship between the quality of life (QOL) and CIPN. Methods: A total of 66 patients with CIPN-related symptoms participated in this study. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires consisted of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30 version 3.0 and the 16-item QLQ-CIPN20. Data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN20 for descriptive statistics using the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests, and Spearman's rho. Results: The mean lower and upper extremity scale scores were 31.95 and 23.16 respectively for the 16-item QLQ-CIPN20. The mean QLQ-C30 subcategory scores were 46.84 for global health status, 58.72 for functional scales, and 34.85 for symptom scales. The CIPN-related lower extremity scale symptoms correlated negatively with the QOL subscales. There was no correlation between CIPN-related upper extremity symptoms and health-related QOL. Conclusion: Patients with hematologic malignancies treated with neurotoxic chemotherapeutic agents had CIPN-related symptoms in the lower extremities mainly, and their QOL functional subscale scores were relatively lower than those of other cancer patients. Interventions need to be developed for patients with hematologic malignancies to alleviate CIPN and enhance their QOL.

Methods: This study conducted a survey to collect data on 869 women in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The measurements included the Rome III criteria(to diagnose IBS), the Global Assessment Recent Stress(GARS scale to evaluate perceived stress), and symptom check list 90R(SCL-90R to evaluate psychological distress). Data were analyzed using SPSS 15.0 program by frequency, $x^2$-tests, t-test, and analysis of variance(ANOVA). Results: The frequency of IBS in women was 15.1%. Eighty-six women(65.6%) had mixed constipation and diarrhea subtype of IBS. Compared to the women without IBS, those with IBS reported significantly higher scores on GARS, all subscales of GARS, SCL-90R, all subscales of SCL-90R, and the global severity index(GSI). No significant differences were observed among stress, mental health, and the IBS subtypes. Conclusion: Nursing interventions targeting women with IBS should be developed in order to reduce the associated stress and psychological distress.

  • Premenstural dysphoric disorder(PMDD) imposing 4-5% of women is possibly caused by an enhanced responsiveness to the changes of sex steroid hormones and the decrease of serotonin, melatonin and GABA. The common clinical features between PMDD and depression, seasonal affective disorder, panic disorder and anorexia nervosa suggest a relatedness between PMDD and each of them. The diagnostic criteria of DSM-IV-Tr for PMDD requires psychological symptoms, that commonly include irritability, anger, depression, mood swing, affect lability, tension, anxiety, fatigue and food craving. As of today, the best pharmacological treatment for PMDD is the selective serotonin reuptake inhibiter, and leuprolide, danazol, estradiol, spironolactone and bromocriptine are possible alternatives. Nonpharmacological treatments for patients with mild to moderate symptom severity are diet, exercise, light therapy, psychotherapy and keeping a diary.
