  • Exaggeration is to express an object or a situation in an excessive way. As the desire for aesthetic expression grows greater today, we tended to focus on the exaggerative expression as a means to acquire other's attention and praise. Also people more actively express their own intention or opinion in an exaggerated manner. The purpose of this study is to identify the social and cultural functions of modern fashion via exaggerative expression, one of the formative characteristics, and its meaning. To do so, the exaggerative features of modern fashion have been analyzed, and the social and cultural meaning of those have been examined through the background of the times and aesthetic sense. The formative form in the exaggerative expression shown in the modern fashion was classified into a body priority type emphasizing woman's body contour, a body disregarded type shown oversized silhouette regardless of body contour and a body distorted type expressing free and diverse form in various shapes of asymmetry and imbalance. The symbolic meanings of those include the changing of the body consciousness and the notions of feminity, and the desire fur formative and playable expression. The exaggeration of the costume in history meant aesthetic value of the woman's body in the society led by men. However, the exaggerative expression shown in the modern fashion is a method to express more actively, as compared with the costume in the past.

The research method is to contemplate the documentary records such as world history, art history and clothing history, and to recognize the symbolic meaning of a bisexuality in modern fashion design. A definition the word´man and woman´restricted the human being for a long time. This restrict is enforced by the costume, but this traditional fixed idea is retarded by the liberal sense of the human being and the design expresses a sex ambiguity This study inspects the sex ambiguity and the meaning of that through a cultural background and a historical costume. The results are as follows: The first, the cultural background about bisexuality is classified into the etymological point, the mythologic point. the art and philosophical point, the political and economic background, the mass media, and the custome and the regulation. A bisexuality is a concept in existence from ancient times. we have an open-minded attitude about bisexuality in the present than the past. The second, the function of costume is sex classification before 20th century, but since 20th century the costume expresses sex ambiguity. • The purpose of this study is to analyze the various signs seen on TV commercials for school uniforms since year 2000, thus uncovering the connotative meanings in them. For this study, the semiotic approach has been used. The signs seen on the TV commercials are separated into linguistic and visual signs. They are found to have symbolic connotations. The results are as follows: First, there are plenty of signs expressing the sense of belonging to the student group and sense of conformity to his or her peer group. They are intended to garner their collective identity in the peer group of teenagers. Second, the TV commercials express the self that is realizing one's value dynamically. The frequent designation of 'I', 'me' and 'myself' represents that I am at the center of the world. Furthermore, the suggestion of diverse student roles beyond mere academic pursuits symbolically shows the ideal self that most teenagers wish to have. Third, the TV commercials implied a commercial ideology. That is expressed in the emphasis on aesthetic value that teenagers can realize their self only by consuming expensive school uniform brands. Forth, there are many signs related to appearance and appearance care. They are expressed with very specific signs such as 3 : 7 proportion, long legs, small face, and so on. Repeating or emphasizing the importance of looks and a certain brand name as the tool to accomplish better looks indicates that it contains the ideology of appearance management.

  • The problems with the small exhibition buildings such a small gallery and art center recently constructed did not make the characteristics of the place specifying and did not form a big flow in the line of urban connection. Also it was deficient in the image like a cultural space because of the commercial aspects of the individual buildings. According to this view, this study is to evaluate the exteriors of the small exhibition buildings that the public prefers on the psychological side as a design theory and then, it is to present the direction of desirable form constitution hereafter. In the design of the small exhibition buildings exterior that the public must prefers, the principles and techniques of constitution that operate are the most initiative as follows. As for the principles of unity in the constitution of the small exhibition buildings exterior that the public prefers, Eigen Value is 7.573 and the explanatory force takes 21.637% at the top and it plays a leading role. In the comparison of the appearance, it shows that it is a factor with the largest specific gravity. The next factors were grouped in good order: the balance, ornamental technique, change, shipping technique, rhythm, harmony, symbolic technique, area technique and adding technique. As a result, in the design of the small exhibition buildings exterior, the architects have to constitute the principles of balance, change, rhythm and harmony by most of the unity and the symbolic technique and form technique by most of the ornamental techniques harmoniously and have to give Identity like exhibition buildings.

  • Subject of this Study is focused on set design for short animation, GHOST, made and presented by animation studio, BEYOND PROSCENIUM. Sets in animation have several functions. First, sets are a playground that character can play to lead a story. Second, sets explain background, which is time and space. Third, sets can visualize metaphorical meaning or symbolic system in animation. To obtain final design that is sufficient to those functions, this study analyzes the case that metaphorical and symbolic meaning from scenario is how to apply into set design also, mentions the method that designer multiply considers character, property and composition from the camera and movement from those elements. Set designers for animation should have ability that simultaneously considers so many elements and they need design skills to create it.

  • This study is semiotic analysis about 'dumb ways to die' that is produced by Melbourne Railway of Australia in 2012. By analyzing the symbolic representations through 'Actants model' of A.J. Greimas, extract the relationship between signification of the represented object in 'dumb ways to die'. Greimas' model helps to analyze the semiotic interpretation action that occurs above a layer of discourse. In addition, this study is to compare the property to distinguish the Semiotic 'Actants' to cause the behavior of the recipient by represented in the same ideological situation. This can determine the properties of the signification and gauge the level of symbolic images that are reproduced in the discourse process. Accordingly, guidance to become a developer by extracting the reproduction principle of the video that causes a user's action.

  • 본 논문은 기호 코딩 및 정보입자를 이용한 유전자 알고리즘의 전방향 퍼지 집합 기반 뉴럴네트워크 (Information Granules and Symbolic Encoding-based Fuzzy Set Polynomial Neural Networks ; IG and SE based FSPNN)의 모델 설계를 제안한다.
