  • As the information age grows rapidly, the amount of digital texts has been increasing as well. It has brought an increasing of visualization case in order to figure out lots of digital texts. Existing visualized design of digital text is merely concentrating on figuration of subject word through adoption of stemming algorithm and word frequency extraction, prominence of meaning of text, and connection in between sentences. So it is a fact that expression of rhythm that can visualize sentimental feeing of digital text was insufficient. Syllable is a phoneme unit that can express rhythm more efficiently. In sentences, syllable is a most basic pronunciation unit in pronouncing word, phase and sentence. On this basis, accent, intonation, length of rhythm factor and others are based on syllable. Sonority, which is most closely associated with definitions of syllable, is expressed through air flow of igniting lung and acoustic energy that is specified kinetic energy into sonority. Seen from this perspective, this study examines phonologic definition and characteristics based on syllable, which is properties of digital text, and research the way to visualize rhythm through diagram. After converting digital text into phonetic symbol by the experiment, rhythm information are visualized into images using degree of resonance, which was started from rhythm in all languages, and using syllable establishment of digital text. By visualizing syllable information, it provides syllable information of digital text and express sentiment of digital text through diagram to assist user's understanding by systematic formula. Therefore, this study is aimed at planning for easy understanding of text's rhythm and realizing visualization of digital text.

  • In this paper, we propose a MLP neural network architecture and feature extraction for Korean syllable recognition. In the proposed syllable recognition system, firstly onset is classified by onset classification neural network. And the results information of onset classification neural network are used for feature selection of imput patterns vector. The feature extraction of Korean syllables is based on sonority. Using the threshold rate separate the syllable. The results of separation are used for feature of onset. nucleus and coda. ETRI's SAMDORI has been used by speech DB. The recognition rate is 96% in the speaker dependent and 93.3% in the speaker independent.

  • this paper is to propose the formative Korean accentuation rule for the korean tort to speech conversion. The accentuation rule is as following: (1) If the rhyme of first syllable is -v, then accent is on the next syllable. (2) If the rhyme of first syllable is not -v, then accent is on the first syllable.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the prosodic characteristics of Korean distant speech. 36 2-syllable words of 4 speakers (2 males and 2 females) produced in both distant-talking and normal environments were used. The results showed that ratios of second syllable to first syllable in vowel duration and vowel energy were significantly larger in the distant-talking environment compared to the normal environment and f0 range also bigger in the distant-talking environment. In addition, 'HL%' contour boundary tone in the second syllable and/or 'L +H' contour tone in the first syllable were used in the distant-talking environment.

  • Playback experiments were performed to clarify the degree of song recognition using inter - and intra-populatlon songs of Bush Warbler at Cheongwon, Chungbuk area. Six territorial males were strongly responded to inter- as well as intrapopulation songs. Their responses to the inter- and Intra-population songs were not differed significantly in all measures of latency time, staying time, and closest distance. This result imply that Bush Warbiers in the region did not discriminate the difference between intra- and inter-population songs. It may be the reason that the regional males have little Interactions In song exchange with neighbors by keeping a long Individual distance. In order to investigate the signal value as species recognition releaser, playback of partial songs, prepared from tow distinct regional populations of the spedes were presented to males of the study area. The partial songs presented were made of two portions for each presentation, a whlsde portion only, and a complex syllable portion only. Territorial males responded stronger to the complex syllable portion than the whistle portion of the song. This result indicate that the complex syllable portion conveys more information on the species recognition. As 'releaser' hypothesis suggested formerly, a function of the complex syllable portion In Bush Warbler song is understood In which conveys most spedesIdentifying information. Thus, the result of this playback experiments supports the releaser hypothesis.

  • A corpus-based lip sync algorithm for synthesizing natural face animation is proposed in this paper. To get the lip parameters, some marks were attached some marks to the speaker's face, and the marks' positions were extracted with some Image processing methods. Also, the spoken utterances were labeled with HTK and prosodic information (duration, pitch and intensity) were analyzed. An audio-visual corpus was constructed by combining the speech and image information. The basic unit used in our approach is syllable unit. Based on this Audio-visual corpus, lip information represented by mark's positions was synthesized. That is. the best syllable units are selected from the audio-visual corpus and each visual information of selected syllable units are concatenated. There are two processes to obtain the best units. One is to select the N-best candidates for each syllable. The other is to select the best smooth unit sequences, which is done by Viterbi decoding algorithm. For these process, the two distance proposed between syllable units. They are a phonetic environment distance measure and a prosody distance measure. Computer simulation results showed that our proposed algorithm had good performances. Especially, it was shown that pitch and intensity information is also important as like duration information in lip sync.

  • Recent studies have demonstrated that word frequency, word length, neighborhood and word shape may have a role in visual word recognition. Shape information may affect word processing in different ways as Korean letter system works differently than that of English. The purpose of this study was to apply Gestalt's continuity principle to Korean alphabetic script(hangul), and to investigate the processing unit of hangul and to verify whether syllable shape affects word recognition in hangul. In experiment 1, three syllable words were utilized and two variables; 1) syllable types(horizontal syllable shape, e.g., "가". vertical syllable shape, e.g., "고") and 2) presenting direction (horizontal, vertical) were manipulated. Whereas "가" meets the criteria of Gestalt's continuity principle, "고" does not. Based on the result of lexical decision time, horizontal syllable shape type showed significant performance improvement, when compared to vertical syllable shape type, regardless of the presenting direction. In experiment 2, syllable types(horizontal syllable shape, vertical syllable shape) and the visual relationship between prime and target(identical, similar, different) were manipulated by using masked priming. There was a significant performance difference between the visual relationship of prime and target, and thus the effect of syllable shape was verified.

  • In this paper, a rule-based method for improving the intelligibility of synthetic speech is proposed. A 12-pole linear prediction coding method is used to model syllable speech signals. A syllable concatenation rule for pause and frame rejection between syllables is developed to improve the naturalness of the synthetic speech. In addition, phonoligical structure transform rule and prosody rule are applied to the synthetic speech by LPC. The illustrative results demonstrate that the synthetic speech obtained by applying these rules has better naturalness than the synthetic speech by LPC.

  • Korean word spacing rules have exceptional cases which permit both spacing and no-spacing between words. The exceptional cases, however, do not mean that inconsistent spacing between words or word-phrases is legitimate in a document proof reading. This paper proposes a word spacing consistency check method using syllable and morpheme information, and evaluated it through experiment.

  • This paper proposed an analysis method of common form for phonemes which is able to construct a Hangul syllable and designed the Choseong, Jungseong, and Jongseong phoneme fonts based on analized information. Also, It presents the algorithm which is able to construct the output of all Hangul syllables using 473 phoneme fonts. Through the experiment, an analized information and output algorithm could be applied to the design of Hangul fonts, effectively.
