Neural Network Controller for a Permanent Magnet Generator Applied in Wind Energy Conversion System

  • In this paper a neural network controller for achieving maximum power tracking as well as output voltage regulation, for a wind energy conversion system (WECS) employing a permanent magnet synchronous generator is proposed. The permanent magnet generator (PMG) supplies a dc load via a bridge rectifier and two buck-boost converters. Adjusting the switching frequency of the first buck-boost converter achieves maximum power tracking. Adjusting the switching frequency of the second buck-boost converter allows output voltage regulation. The on-time of the switching devices of the two converters are supplied by the developed neural network (NN). The effect of sudden changes in wind speed and/ or in reference voltage on the performance of the NN controller are explored. Simulation results showed the possibility of achieving maximum power tracking and output voltage regulation simulation with the developed neural network controllers. The results proved also the fast response and robustness of the proposed control system.

An Analog Encoder for Precise Angle Control of SRM

  • In a switched reluctance motor drive, it is important to synchronize the stator phase excitation with the rotor position, because the position of rotor is an essential information. Although high resolution optical encoders or resolvers are used to provide a precise position information, these sensors are expensive. Moreover, in the high-speed region, switching angles are fluctuated back and forth out of the preset value, which is caused by the sampling period of the microprocessor. In this paper, a low cost analog encoder suitable for practical applications is proposed. And the control algorithm to generate switching signals using a Simple digital logic is presented. The validity of the proposed analog encoder with a proper logic controller is verified from the experiments.

  • Capacitor switching is essential for the economic operation, and proper voltage control of KOREA electric utility distribution system. Voltage transients produced by capacitor switching (around 2.0 per unit at substation and 2.5 or less per unit at customer site, and lasting less then 1ms) do not have the magnitude or duration to interfere with the operation of computers, but they do disrupt the operation of adjustable speed drivers. The result of our research, ASD manufacturers should team from the computer industry and design products that will operate satisfactory in the electrical envelopment in which they will be placed. In this case history, the inductors on the input to ADSs in order to prevent nuisance tripping from capacitor switching(and other causes within the apartment) proved to be an effective, low-cost solution.

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) has considerable potential for industrial applications because of its high result lily as a result of the absence of rotor windings. In some applications with SRM, paralleling strategy is often used for cost saving, increasing of current capacity and system reliability. A SRM inverter has very low ,switching frequency. This results in reducing the burden for a high-speed of the gate-amp interface circuit. and the linearity of optocoupler is used to protect the instantaneous peak current for the stable operation. In this paper, series resistor is used to equal the current sharing of each switching device and a linear gate-amp is proposed to protect the instantaneous peak current which occurs in transient state. The proposed paralleling strategy is verified by experimental results.

  • In response to this inverter microwave oven has been developed to improve high speed cooking time & energy saving performance. The voltage resonating inverter has a defect in switching element that works at 5 or 6times higher than input voltage. Especially, it is very difficult to choose the switching device is very high for the 220 (V) commercial voltage. In this paper, it is proposed the optimum method to realize the turbo 1200(W) output power for microwave oven that is employed the 900(V) IGBT with decreasing operating voltage of the switching component by making the 220(V), 1000(W) inverter through the active clamp voltage resonating inverter.

  • The PWM inverter drive my cause motor terminals voltage surge and oscillation(ringing), which impose severe electric stresses on inter-turn insulation of motor windings. This paper describes the technique used to simulate the problems associated with the use of PWM ASD's(Adjustable Speed Drive) to drive induction motor. The characteristic of switching surge was analyzed by EMTP(Electromagnetic transient program) model. The effects of switching surge by surge impedance, rise-time and cable lengths are also discussed.

  • The switched reluctance motor (SRM) would have torque ripple if not operated with an MMF waveform specified for switching angle and phase voltage. This paper describes the robustic control scheme that permits the phase torque to be flat by PLL(Phase Locked Loop) controller. In this control scheme, the locked phase signal of PLL controls the switching dwell angle and it's loop filter signal controls the switching voltage adaptively. Experimental results show that stable dynamic performance is obtained for torque and speed together with low torque ripple on the operation of variable loads.

  • This paper is indicating the problems, which are the conduction loss on the high frequency transformer, the protection of rectification diode as the snubber loss and the stress of switching main devices, as be made high current and high speed in the phase-shift switching full-bridge DC-DC converter is used the power supply's main circuit of high capacity. In this paper, to improve those problems, it is proposed that is the resonant circuit auxiliary can be reduced conduction losses and stabilized output control. And, it is constructed prototype of the power supply as the result of computer simulations.

  • Power MOSFET and Power IGBT is develop in power savings, high efficiency, small size, high reliability, fast switching, low noise. Power MOSFET can be used high-speed switching transistors devices. Power MOSFET is devices the voltage-driven approach switching devices are design to handle on large power, power supplies, converters. In this paper, design the 80V MOSFET Planar Gate type, and design the Trench Gate type for realization of low on-resistance. For both structures, by comparing and analyzing the results of the simulation and characterization.
