  • Multitasking has become part of our life. Self-interruption and switching to another task become easier and more frequent. According to previous studies, however, most of the task-switching incurs a cognitive cost. This study investigated the benefit from task switching. In Study 1, participants performed two tasks were similar, and negative correlation between the number of task switching and performance were confirmed, this result is similar to previous studies. Study 2 has shown that, made a comparison of two conditions, between possible and impossible conditions in terms of task switching. Depending on switching preference, the result of task performance has differentiated and the emotion that participants had before the task has changed. Depending on participants' switching preference, there were different amount of switching cost. Moreover, for participants who preferred task switching highly than others, task switching occurred more benefit than cost.

  • In this paper, the path tracking controller for a surface vessel based on the sliding mode control (SMC) with the switching law is proposed. In order to have no restriction on movement and improved tracking performance, the proposed control system is developed as follows: First, the kinematic and dynamic models in Cartesian coordinates are considered to solve the singularity problem at the origin. Second, the new multiple sliding surfaces are designed with the SMC and approach angle concept to solve the under-actuated property. Third, the switching control system is designed to improve tracking performance. To prove the stability of the proposed switching system under the arbitrary switching, the Lyapunov stability analysis method with the common Lyapunov function is used. Finally, the computer simulations are performed to demonstrate the performance, effectiveness and stability of the proposed tracking controller of a surface vessel.

  • In this paper, we proposed the test equipment that can perform separate performance tests to mass-produce the Automatic Test Equipment. Until now, the performance test of the ATE has been performed after it has been assembled perfectly. It is possible to perform the performance test only when the external device manufacturing and setting of measurement resources and the internal wiring work have been completed. So we have been studying test equipment that separately tested the switching devices that played a key role in the performance of the ATE. To build the test equipment, we reviewed the circuit card assemblies that make up the switching devices. We designed a test equipment that satisfies the performance test and apply the completed test equipment to the actual production process to analyze whether it was effective in improving the time and workability of the performance test. The test equipment has the advantage that it can be used universally in the mass production process of ATE with the same type of switching device.

  • Wind turbine generators were designed on general regulations of wind condition. At real situations, it could be different from the design conditions. There are many control methods and definitions of transient region, because an efficient wind turbine generator control logic is the important matter in generator performance and annual energy production at real conditions. In this document, the power generation sensitivity for wind speed and turbulence intensities was defined to know the sensitive transient region. Wind conditions are applied for the ranges of 7~10m/s mean wind speed and 14~20% turbulence intensity. The sensibility of HR-D86 wind generator was increased in transient region(8~10m/s) on power curve diagram through a torque control to a pitch control. And then GH-bladed simulations was performed for performance analysis of the torque mode switching in transient region on 2MW direct drive wind generator(HR-D86) which is designed IEC class II for onshore. Through the sensitivity and performance analysis, the sensitivity for real wind condition could be the performance index for an wind generator. And the torque mode switching in transient region can increase the mean power generation on HR-D86 wind turbine generator.

  • In this paper, the performance of an integrated voice/data cut-through switching network is studied. We first derive cut-through probabilities of voice and data packets at intermediate nodes. Then, the Laplace transform for the network delay is obtained. According to numerical results, the performance of cut-through switching is superior to that of packet switching for integrated voice/data networks.

  • In this paper the performance of a variable-phase thyristor motor combined with a phase splitter and a single-phase tapped induction motor is investigated. The phase splitter consists of a bridge type thyristor switching circuit. The regulating power flow of the phase splitter is obtained from the switching phase difference of thyristor switching sequences. The proper switching performance improves the torque-speed-characteristics of the motor and its operation efficiency. We simplify the motor system th using the tapped windng reactances of the motor as the complementary element of the thyristor phase splitter. We discussed the practicality of this motor system through the analysis of simulation result and the voltage and the current wave forms obtained froms obtained from the experiment.

  • This paper describes the high efficiency inverter ballast circuit using very cheap microprocessor, which has been developed by the author. A variety of soft-switching techniques have been proposed to reduce the switching losses and EMI problems that occur with higher switching frequencies in switched inverter ballast. The inverter ballast circuit, which employs a temperature sensing circuits has been also proposed to improve starting performance of the fluorescent lamps. That is, the inverter ballast circuit, which employs a soft-starting circuit and soft-switching techniques to implement the power factor correction and to mitigate of power-loss and increase a life time of the fluorescent lamps, has become an attractive performance for ballasting the fluorescent lamps. In this paper, the operation and the control of the inverter ballast are described in detail and experimental results are presented. As the experimental results, when environment temperature is at -40℃, the inverter ballast circuit has low THD(4.8%) of the input current and large power factor(98%) of the lamp current. The proposed improved ballast circuit appears to be a good performance for ballasting fluorescent lamps.

  • In this study, a hierarchical switching control scheme based on robust control theory is proposed for tracking control of vehicle longitudinal acceleration in the presence of large uncertainties. A model set consisting of four multiplicative-uncertainty models is set up, and its corresponding controller set is designed by the LMI approach, which can ensures the robust performance of the closed loop system under arbitray switching. Based on the model set and the controller set, a switching index function by estimating the system gain of the uncertainties between the plant and the nominal model is designed to determine when and which controller should be switched into the closed loop. After theoretical analyses, experiments have also been carried out to validate the proposed control algorithm. The results show that the control system has good performance of robust stability and tracking ability in the presence of large uncertainties. The response time is smaller than 1.5s and the max tracking error is about $0.05\;m/S^2$ with the step input.
