  • To drive motor or heating machine, it needs the electric power system like the apparatus of inverter. This electric power system obviously comprises power switching devices and drivers to run them. And this system has the topology comprised one/many arm(s), - each arm has high side switching device and low side switching device. Transformer, photocoupler, and HVIC having functions of isolation and level shift which are important thing to drive high side switching device are used as component of drivers in conventional apparatus. Piezoelectric transformers are proposed in this paper, and applied to drive high side swiching device. Through experiments, the possiblities of driving high side switching device are presented and the problems are mooted concurrently. But, we also consider a counterplan for solving the mooted trouble issues.

  • A high efficiency soft switching boost converter is proposed in this paper. The conventional boost converter generates switching losses at turn on and off. Because of those, the whole system efficiency is reduced. The proposed converter utilizes soft switching method using resonant circuit with an auxiliary switch. Therefore, the proposed converter reduces switching losses lower than the hard switching. The proposed soft switching boost converter can be applied to photovoltaic system, power factor correction circuit and etc.

  • Parasitic parameters have a larger influence on Silicon Carbide (SiC) devices with an increase of the switching frequency. This limits full utilization of the performance advantages of the low switching losses in high frequency applications. By combining a theoretical analysis with a experimental parametric study, a mathematic model considering the parasitic inductance and parasitic capacitance is developed for the basic switching circuit of a SiC MOSFET. The main factors affecting the switching characteristics are explored. Moreover, a fast-switching double pulse test platform is built to measure the individual influences of each parasitic parameters on the switching characteristics. In addition, guidelines are revealed through experimental results. Due to the limits of the practical layout in the high-speed switching circuits of SiC devices, the matching relations are developed and an optimized layout design method for the parasitic inductance is proposed under a constant length of the switching loop. The design criteria are concluded based on the impact of the parasitic parameters. This provides guidelines for layout design considerations of SiC-based high-speed switching circuits.

  • In this paper, a current-fed two-inductor bi-directional DC/DC converter using resonance (CF-TIBCR) and its design method are proposed. The CF-TIBCR has characteristics of low current ripple and a high current rating because of two separated inductors. Also, it achieves zero voltage switching for all switches and zero current switching for switches of a low voltage stage by using the resonant tank. Besides, a voltage spike problem in conventional current-fed converters is solved without the need for an additional snubber or clamping circuits. As a result, the CF-TIBCR features high step-up and high efficiency. Since the proposed converter has difficulty achieving the soft-switching condition when the converter requires the low voltage transfer ratio, a method that varies the number of resonant cycles is adopted to extend the output voltage range with satisfying the soft-switching condition. The principles of the operation characteristics are presented with a theoretical analysis, and the proposed converter is verified through results of an experiment using a laboratory prototype.

  • In this paper, the path tracking controller for a surface vessel based on the sliding mode control (SMC) with the switching law is proposed. In order to have no restriction on movement and improved tracking performance, the proposed control system is developed as follows: First, the kinematic and dynamic models in Cartesian coordinates are considered to solve the singularity problem at the origin. Second, the new multiple sliding surfaces are designed with the SMC and approach angle concept to solve the under-actuated property. Third, the switching control system is designed to improve tracking performance. To prove the stability of the proposed switching system under the arbitrary switching, the Lyapunov stability analysis method with the common Lyapunov function is used. Finally, the computer simulations are performed to demonstrate the performance, effectiveness and stability of the proposed tracking controller of a surface vessel.

  • In this paper, proposes a novel AC-DC converter of high power factor and high efficiency by partial resonant method. The input current waveform in proposed circuit is got to be a discontinuous sinusoidal form in proportion to magnitude of ac input voltage under the constant duty cycle switching. Thereupon, the input power factor is nearly unity and the control circuit is simple. Also the switching devices in a proposed circuit are operated with soft switching by the partial resonant method. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. The partial resonant circuit makes use of a inductor using step up and $L^2SC$ (Loss-Less Snubber Condenser). The switching control technique of the converter is simplified for switches to drive in constant duty cycle. Some simulative results and experimental results are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results.

  • This paper is proposed to a novel DC-DC buck-boost converter added electric isolation by using a soft switching method. To be achieved of high efficiency system, the proposed converter is constructed by using a partial resonant circuit. The control switches using in the converter are operated with soft switching for a partial resonant method. The controlling switches are operated without increasing their voltage and current stresses by the soft switching technology. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the converter efficiency is high. And the proposed converter is added in a electric isolation. When the power conversion system is required to electric isolation, the proposed converter is adopted with system development of high efficiency. The soft switching operation and the system efficiency of the proposed converter is verified by digital simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper has proposed a controller switching scheme for full-envelope aircraft control using the bumpless transfer implementation algorithm developed recently. This switching scheme has combined by proper rules the common existing method which switches the controller according to attitude and mach number of the aircraft with an optimization method which uses the cost function relating to bump phenomenon by means of controller switching criterion. This paper exemplifies the control performance improvement via simulations applied to a high performance aircraft benchmark problem in a wide operating range to test the proposed controller switching scheme.

  • The application of soft-switching techniques is increasing in the DC/DC converter area. It is important to design soft-switching parameters to ensure the converter operates properly and efficiently. An optimized design method is presented in this paper. The objective function is the total power loss of a converter, while the variables are soft-switching parameters and the constraints are the electrical requirements for soft-switching. Firstly, a response surface methodology (RSM) model with a high precision is built, and the rough optimized parameters can be obtained with the help of a genetic algorithm (GA) in the solution space determined by the constraints. Secondly, a re-optimization is conducted with a SPICE model and a GA, and accurate optimized parameters can be obtained. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed method performs well in terms of a wide adaptability, efficiency, and global optimization.

  • A switching differentiator that can estimate the 1st-order time-derivative of a time-varying signal was proposed, and it is extended later to the higher-order switching differentiator(HOSD) that can observe higher-order time-derivatives of a time-varying signal in previous works. By using HOSD, higher-order time-derivatives can be estimated without peaking or chattering, and it has an asymptotic tracking performance. However, there exist many design constants to be determined in HOSD. In this paper, a method of reducing the number of design constants is proposed to solve the problem. Simulations reveal the effectiveness of the proposed method.
