A NOVEL NEURAL-NETWORK BASED CURRENT CONTROL SCHEME FOR A THREE-LEVEL CONVERTER

  • This paper present the design of a novel neural-network (NN) based pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques for a three-level power converter of electric trains along with nonlinear mapping of essential switching patterns and fault tolerance, which are inherent characteristics of NNs. Considering the importance of safety, power factor and harmonics of electric train power converters, two-level type and three-level type of power converters using NNs are precisely investigated and compared in computer simulation. A computer simulation shows that a new current control scheme provides an improved performance over a fixed-band hysteresis current control in many aspects.

  • This paper describes a control scheme for direct torque and flux control of Induction machines using space vector modulation. The proposed predictive flux control scheme has directly calculated the reference voltage space vector based on Stator flux errors in order to control the torque and flux. This proposed control scheme has not the requirement of a separate current error, thereby improving transient performance and also has the advantage of less torque ripple in steady state with a fixed switching period. The effect of proposed method has been proven by simulations. It is concluded that the proposed control topology produces better results for steady state operation than the classical direct torque control.

  • This paper presents a casca multilevel PWM rectifier without the isolation transformers for energy build-up at each inverter modules; The features and advantages of the proposed PWM rectifier can be summarized as follows; 1) It realizes the high power high voltage AC/DC power conversion, 2) It uses no transformer which is bulky and heavy, 3) It has hybrid structure so that switching devices can be effectively utilized, 4) It produces high quality AC current even in high power high voltage applications, 5) The input power factor remains unity by simple modulation index control. The multilevel rectifier is analyzed by using the circuit DQ transformation whereby the characteristics and control equations are obtained. Finally, it will be shown that the system simulation reveals the validity of analyses

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the power spectrum of a three-phase and a two-phase RCD (Random Pulse Centered Displacement) PWM scheme. The two-phase or three-phase pulses of RCD-PWM scheme are mutually center-aligned as in SVM(Space Vector Modulation), but the common pulse center is displaced randomly from the middle of the period. To verify the validity of the proposed two-phase RCD-PWM scheme, the power spectra of the output voltage, the d.c link current in the inverter drives and the radiated acoustic noise are experimentally investigated. And, the performance of the proposed two-phase RCD-PWM scheme was compared and discussed with the conventional three-phase RCD-PWM scheme.

  • In this paper describes the development testing results of high density High Voltage Power Supply(HVPS) that employ microwave TWTs. The HVPS consist of number of modules connected in series. A new design that adapt resonant circuit and high density pulse transformer to the high voltage modules makes the HVPS much more reliable. Also High voltage Solid-State modulation using fast switching devices(FET's) and the test results of modulator modules development are represented.

  • A zero voltage soft switching inverter using active clamp is presented for induction heating application. This converter have long been attractive because of its simplicity, high efficiency, and low cost compared to other schemes. In addition to those merits, Input power factor can be improved with a variable frequency control. In this paper, it describe the control method and operational principle to improve a power factor with a single stage US converter using active clamp for induction heating application.

  • This study deals with the position control of a hydraulic cylinder system operated by two port 3-way high speed solenoid valve in Pulse-Width-Modulation mode, instead of using conventional electro-hydraulic servovalve. Due to the complexity and the relatively poor reliability of the servovalve, an actuator using simpler and more study high speed solenoid valve will be presented. The high speed solenoid valve acts as converters of electronic pulse signal to hydraulic ones. It has been pointed out that there are practical problems to be solved in the PWM system, that is (1) accuracy of positioning control becomes considerably insufficient because the system is affected by on/off action of the solenoid valves, and (2) serious nonlinerality appears in the valve characteristics as a result of the switching behavior of the valves. As a method to overcome these defects, the differential PWM driving method of a hydraulic cylinder that improved the steady-state-error, flow rate nonlinearity in simple PWM, and the hydraulic hunting of dead time compensated-PWM driving is proposed in this study.

  • PWM(pulse width modulation) rectifier has unit power factor and low harmonic distortion with high power conversion efficiency in entire loading range. These merits of PWM rectifier help the spread of DC distribution system. In addition, if multiple PWM rectifiers can be operated in parallel connection, maintenance process can be simple and reliability of power source can be advanced because of the hot swapping is available. The other way, the load unbalance among rectifiers can force a converter to stop by over current. The surge current by closed circuit composition between rectifiers can force switching devices damage. In this paper, some problems that can occur in case of parallel operation of PWM rectifiers and problem eliminating methods are considered.

  • In this study, we proposed WLED(White-Light Emitting Diode) driver IC for mobile applications. This IC drove WLED for mobile applications with low input voltage and high efficiency by using boost converter. The device was designed by using boost converter applied current-mode control algorithm and provided PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) & analog dimming. Designed IC consisted of bias block, drive block, control block, protection block. We confirmed this device worked well through a application PCB (Printed Circuit Board) test.

  • This paper proposed one of various acoustic resonance reduction technique for three kinds of ceramic lamps (CDM-150, HCI-150, CMH-150). To reduce the acoustic resonance in the HID lamps, the researched results showed that the frequency modulated signal with the triangle waveform is very effective in order to drive th LCC type half-bridge inverter for HID lamp. Experimental results proved that the acoustic resonance could be rejected, if the adequate switching frequency band is selected and the driving signal frequency is modulated with a triangle waveform.
