Acoustic Noise Reduction of Three-Phase SRM with Random Pulse Position PWM and Random Turn-on/off Angle Control

  • This paper describes a new method using random modulated strategies for switched reluctance machines. The proposed method is combined random turn-on, turn-off angle technique and random pulse width modulation technique. The purpose of this proposed method is to decrease harmonic spectrum, and thus reduce the emitted acoustical noise. A random generator is generated by linear congruential generator (LCG) using random pulse position (RPP) scheme. Simulation results show that the harmonic intensity of proposed method is better than that of conventional method.

  • The position information of the rotor are required while the SRG(Switched Reluctance Generator) is drived. The position information is generally provided by shaft encoder or resolver. But it is weak in the dusty, high temperator and EMI environment. Therefore, It is required for the sensor to be eliminated from SRG. In this paper, a estimation algorithm for the rotor position of the SRG is introducted and a constant DC-link voltage is controled by PID controller. The estimation algorithm is imple--mened by using the instantaneous flux profile, and the initial position is estimated by injecting high frequency pulse voltage. It is proved that the rotor position is esti--mated very well by the exeriments.

  • The application of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is dramatically increasing due to a simple mechanical structure, high efficiency and a good high speed characteristics. Generally, turn-off angle of power switch must be limited the demagnetization period. To control high conduction ratio in motor operation and regenerative voltage in the generator operation in the SRM, multi-level voltage control is effective. This paper proposes multi-level inverter to have a maximum conduction ratio of SRM. The proposed method is verified by experiment.

Energy recovery in the regenerative region is very important when SRM is used in traction drive. This is to reduce energy loss during mechanical braking and/or to have a high efficiency drive. To control excitation voltage during motoring and regenerating voltage in the generator operation in the SRM, multi-level voltage control is effective. This paper suggests multi-level inverter which is useful for motoring and regenerative operation. The proposed method is verified through simulations and experiments.

  • The SRG(Switched Reluctance Generator) consists of simple stator and rotor. The advantage of SRG is very endurance and low cost. Because of SRG have no magnetic, So we should obtain current of magnetic to stator. But in this step SRG have disadvantage. Disadvantage of SRG is more torque ripple, vibration and noise than other machines. This paper shows the simulation of SRG with 3phases, 6 stator poles and 4 rotor poles. We intpret the characteristics of SRG's constant voltage and torque ripple according to change switching angle.

  • SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) drives require the accurate position information of the rotor. These informations are generally provided by a tacho generator or digital shaft-position encoder These speed sensors lower the system reliability and require special attention to noise. This paper describes a new approach to estimating SRM speed from measured terminal voltages and currents for speed sensorless control. The described method is based on the sliding mode observer. The rotor speed and position observers are estimated by the adaptation law using the real and estimated currents. However, the conventional adaptive sliding mode observer based on the variable structure control theory has some disadvantages that the estimated values including the high-frequency chattering and the steady state error generated due to the infinite feedback gain chosen and the discontinuous control input. To reduce the chattering and steady state error, an integrator is also inserted in the sliding mode observer strategy. The described adaptive sliding mode observer decreases the vibration to the switching hyper-plane of the sliding mode by adding integrator. The described methodology incorporates the Lyapunov algorithm to drive the rotor speed and the stator resistance such that it can overcome the problem of sensitivity in the face of SRM parameter variation. Also, without any mechanical information. The rotor speed of SRM is obtained form adaptive scheme. The described method is verified through the simulation and experiment.
