액체로켓에서 다단 접선 유입구를 갖는 스월인젝터의 음향학적 감쇠기능 (Effect of Swirl Injector with Multi-Stage Tangential Entry on Acoustic Damping in Liquid Rocket Engine)

  • 액체로켓엔진에서 고주파 연소불안정을 제어하기 위하여 다단 접선 유입구를 갖는 스월 인젝터를 분석하였다. 음향흡수자로서 인젝터의 효과를 분석하기위하여 인젝터는 1/4 파장 공명기로 해석하였고, 상온에서 감쇠 효과의 적합성을 검증하였다. 이러한 인젝터는 모델 챔버의 고유주파수에 동조시킬 수 있는 고유주파수를 갖게 된다. 다단의 접선 유입구를 갖는 인젝터가 단일 유입구를 갖는 인젝터 보다 인젝터 내부의 air core가 안정되었다. 또한, 다단 접선 유입구를 갖는 인젝터를 사용하였을 때 불안정 모드에 동조되는 인젝터 길이가 계산된 길이와 잘 일치하였다. 이러한 실험 결과로부터 인젝터 내부의 air core가 안정되게 유지된다면, 동조된 스월 인젝터는 모델 챔버의 불안정 모드를 효과적으로 감소시킬 수 있고, 감쇠율을 증가시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • In the present, The theoretical and numerical results of gas flow characteristics inside a swirl injector are presented. For this purpose a one-dimensional (theoretical) model and 2D/3D CFD models are proposed for use in the design of the injector. It was found that contradictory to the classical theory about the compressible flow, the swirl has a significant effect on the mass flow rate and the choking conditions. It was found that the one-dimensional model provides reasonably accurate results compared with the 2D/3D numerical results, and thus can be used at the initial stage of the swirl-injector design process.

  • In this paper, a study of Urea-SCR System for Dosing Injector for responding to enhanced environmental regulations has been conducted. There is a limit to the experimental approach due to the structural characteristics of the injector. In order to overcome this problem, The analysis was performed assuming unsteady turbulent flow through computational fluid analysis and the internal flow characteristics of the injector were analyzed. By changing the nozzle shape of the injector, the performance factors of the swirl injector by shape were selected and compared. The design parameters were modified by changing the diameter of the nozzle at a constant ratio compared to the base model. Swirl coefficient, outlet mass flow, and sac volume were selected as performance parameters of the injector. The Conv. model to which the taper was applied showed the dominance in mass flow rate, discharge coefficient and swirl because of the smooth fluid flow by shape. Swirl coefficient, outlet mass flow, and sac volume were selected as performance parameters of the injector. As a result of the comparison coefficient derivation with those performance parameters for comparing the performance of the model-specific injector, the Conv-140 model with the nozzle diameter expanded by 140% showed the best value of the comparison coefficient.

모델 가스터빈 연소기에서 인젝터 형태에 따른 종-방향 불안정성 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Longitudinal Instability Characteristics with Injector Type in Model Gas Turbine Combustor)

  • 이 연구에서는, 모델 가스 터빈 연소기에서 발생하는 저선회 인젝터와 강선회 인젝터의 열-음향불안정성을 비교하고 있다. 인젝터 형태에 다른 불안정한 거동의 비교를 위하여, 다양한 당량비와 연소실 길이의 광범위한 범위의 실험이 수행되었다. 실험 결과, 연소기에서 발생된 대부분의 불안정성은 종-방향 불안정성이라는 것이 확인되었다. 또한, 강선회 인젝터가 저선회 인젝터에 비하여 더 넓은 연소실 길이 영역에서 강한 연소 불안정성이 발생됨이 발견되었다. 저선회 인젝터의 막힘률은 전체적인 거동 측면에서 큰 의미를 보이지 않았다. 또한, 인젝터의 형태에 무관하게 연소실 길이가 동일한 경우에 연소 불안정성이 발생한 경우에는 불안정성의 특성이 유사함이 발견되었다.

  • This study was aimed to assess combustion stability for coaxial swirl injector and FOOF impinging injector which would be candidates in liquid rocket engine combustors. Simulating combustion tests under atmospheric condition have been conducted by gaseous oxygen and the mixture of methane and propane, using two actual injectors. By analyzing the measured dynamic pressure signals, we have evaluated the combustion stability margin of both injectors by drawing a stability map.

  • 본 연구에서는 스피커를 사용하여 Jet와 Swirl 유동에 각각 가진을 가함으로써 기체-기체 동축형 제트-스월 인젝터의 Injector transfer function (ITF)을 측정하였다. Feed system의 길이를 변화시켜감에 따라 ITF를 측정한 결과 섭동이 가해진 유동이 흐르는 공간의 공진주파수에서 ITF의 peak가 발생하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. Jet 유동을 변화시키면서 Jet 유동에 가진을 줄 때, ITF의 크기는 감소하다가 56 slpm 이후부터는 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, Jet와 Swirl 유동의 속도차가 클수록 ITF의 크기가 커지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. Swirl 가진 시에는 Jet 유동이 증가함에 따라 ITF가 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었는데, 이는 후단에서 일정 유량 대비 가진 에너지가 감소하기 때문이며, 이러한 차이는 후단의 Hot wire anemometer가 인젝터 중심축에 위치하기 때문이다.

Experimental Study on Simplex Swirl Injector Dynamics with Varying Geometry

  • The effects of swirl chamber's diameter and length on injector's dynamic characteristics were investigated through an experimental study. A mechanical pulsator was installed in front of the manifold of a swirl injector which produces pressure oscillations in the feed line. Pressure in the manifold, liquid film thickness in the orifice and the pressure in the orifice were measured in order to understand the dynamic characteristic of the simplex swirl injector with varying geometry. A direct pressure measuring method (DPMM) was used to calculate the axial velocity of the propellant in the orifice and the mass flow rate through the orifice. These measured and calculated values were analyzed to observe the amplitude and phase differences between the input value in the manifold and the output values in the orifice. As a result, a phase-amplitude diagram was obtained which exhibits the injector's response to certain pressure fluctuation inputs. The mass flow rate was calculated by the DPMM and measured directly through the actual injection. The effect of mean manifold pressure change was insignificant with the frequency range of manifold pressure oscillation used in this experiment. Mass flow rate was measured with the variation of injector's geometries and amplitude of the mass flow rate was observed with geometry and pulsation frequency variation. It was confirmed that the swirl chamber diameter and length affect an injector's dynamic characteristics. Furthermore, the direction of geometry change for achieving dynamic stability in the injector was suggested.

  • This paper describes the results of cold flow test and hot firing tests of an uni-element coaxial swirl injector and hot firing tests of a subscale combustor, as to the development effort of coaxial swirl injector for high performance liquid rocket engine combustor. A major design parameter for coaxial swirl injector is the recess number of a bi-swirl injector. The results of hot firing tests of the uni-element injector combustor and the sub-scale combustor are analyzed to investigate the effect of the recess number influencing on the combustion performance and pressure fluctuation. The test results of a cold flow test of the unielement combustor shows that it was shown that the change in recess number has significant effect on mixing characteristics and efficiency, while the effect of recess number on atomization characteristic is not The results of a series of firing tests using unielement and subscale combustor show that the recess length significantly affects the hydraulic characteristics, the combustion efficiency, and the dynamics of the liquid oxygen/kerosene bi-swirl injector. As a point of combustion performance, combustion efficiencies are 90% for unielement combustor and 95% for subscale combustor. The difference in the characteristic velocities between the unielement combustor and the subscale combustor may be caused by the difference in thermal loss to the combustor wall and the relative lengths of the combustion chamber. For a mixed type coaxial swirl combustor, the pressure drop across the injector increases as recess number becomes larger. The low frequency pressure fluctuation observed in unielement combustor can be related to the propellant mixing characteristics of the coaxial bi-swirl injector. The effect of the recess number on the pressure fluctuation inside the combustion chamber is more significant in un i-element combustor than the subscale combustor, of which the phenomena are also observed in time domain and frequency domain.

Effect of Dynamic SGS Model in a Kerosene-LOx Swirl Injector under Supercritical Condition

  • In this study, numerical simulations are carried out to investigate the dynamic SGS model effects in a Kerosene-LOx coaxial swirl injector under high pressure conditions. The turbulent model is based on large-eddy simulation (LES) with real-fluid transport and thermodynamics. To assess the effect of the dynamic subgrid-scale (SGS) model, the dynamic SGS model is compared with that of the algebraic SGS model. In a swirl injector under supercritical pressure, the characteristics of temporal pressure fluctuation and power spectral density (PSD) present comparable discrepancies dependant on the SGS models, which affect the mixing characteristics. Mixing efficiency and the probability density (PDF) function are conducted for a statistical description of the turbulent flow fields according to the SGS models. The back-scattering of turbulent kinetic energy is estimated in terms of the film thickness of the swirl injector.
