부자재가 돼지 사체 퇴비화에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Amendments on Composting of Swine Carcass)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide information for the livestock for the livestock carcass composting operation in agricultural waste management. Burial, landfilling and incineration of livestock carcass may have environmental regulatory and economic liabilities. Dead animals amended with agricultural residues can be composted and used to promote soil fertility and reduce environmental pollution. In this study we evaluated the effect of amendments on the primary and secondary composting reaction and stability of compost. The full-scale composting bin of swine carcass in roofed system with three amendments was adequate in reaching sufficient temperature above 55$^{\circ}C$ long enough to kill the pathogen. The average temperature of the compost material in dead swine amended with corn stover increased rapidly to 64$^{\circ}C$ on the 2nd day after primary composting and dropped to near ambient temperature on the 140th day of composting. The composting with of corn stover and wheat straw are more efficient for swine carcass composting than that of sawdust. Therefore, the amendment property is an important factor in the design of composting facility.

악취 발산감소를 위한 필터의 이용 효과 (Effect of Biofilter on Reducing Malodor Emission)

  • Controlling malodor originating from livestock feces has become a major issue, due to its influence on the health of man and livestock, together with its influences on atmospheric pollution. In this study, Five types of biofilters filled with saw-dust, night soil, fermented compost, leaf mold and a mixture(a compound of night soil, fermented compost and leaf mold at the same rates, respectively) were manufactured and tested. To study the effect of the biofilter on reducing malodor in a composting facility and swine building, a pilot scale composting facility enclosed with polyethylene film was constructed. Swine feces was composted in the facility and malodorous gas generated from the decomposition of organic matter in the feces was gathered by vacuum pump. Each biofilter achieved 87∼96% NH3 removal efficiency. This performance was maintained throughout 10 days of operation. The highest NH3 removal efficiency was achieved by leaf mold on the first day of operation period. It reduced the concentration of NH3 by about 96%. Night soil and fermented compost showed nearly equal performance of 93 to 94% for 10 days from the beginning of operation. The mixture achieved the lowest NH3 removal efficiency. It reduced NH3 concentration by about 89∼94% for 10 days from the beginning of operation. However NH3 removal efficiency of each biofilter declined with the passage of operational time. After 30 days from the beginning of operation, NH3 removal efficiency of each biofilter of each biofilter was below 60%, respectively. The concentration of H2S and CH3-SH originating from compost were equal to or less than 5mg/l and 3mg/l, respectively. After passing throughout the biofilter, the concentration of H2S and CH3-SH were not detected.

양돈장 작업장소별 암모니아 및 황화수소의 실시간 모니터링 (Real-time Monitoring of Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide According to Workplace at Swine Farms)

  • Objectives: This study aims to assess the concentrations of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide according to task unit area at swine farms. Methods: A total of six swine farms were selected for this study. Ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were monitored using a real-time multi-gas monitor which could sample the gases simultaneously. The sampling was done in the pig building, manure storage facility and composting facility of each farm. Results: The concentration of ammonia in the pig buildings(GM 22.6 ppm, GSD 2.3) was significantly higher(p<0.0001) than in the manure storage facilities(GM 10.4 ppm, GSD 2.7) and composting facilities(GM 8.6 ppm, GSD 2.8). The concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the manure storage facilities(GM 9.8 ppm, GSD 3.2) was higher(p<0.0001) than in the pig buildings(GM 2.3 ppm, GSD 2.3) and composting facilities(GM 1.9 ppm, GSD 2.5). In particular, the levels of hydrogen sulfide in the confined manure storage facilities were higher than those in open-type facilities and the peak concentration(98 ppm) in the confined facilities was approximate to 100 ppm, at the value of Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health(IDLH). Conclusions: Suffocation accidents caused by hazardous gases at a swine farm have occurred annually. Real-time monitoring of the hazards should be done in order to protect farm workers and livestock from the sudden accidents.

축산시설의 축종별 악취물질 농도 특성과 악취도 평가 (Assessment of Odor Characterization and Odor Unit from Livestock Facilities by animals)

  • At recent the number of livestock is increased and the size of farm has changed to large facilities in Korea. So the livestock facilities have become one of major sources of odor emission. The purpose of this study is to analyze the concentration and assessment of odor unit from livestock facilities for cow, dairy, swine and poultry. The eleven odor pollutants such as $H_2S$, ($CH_3$)SH, $(CH_3)_2S$, $(CH_3)_2S_2$, $CH_3N$, $NH_3$, $(CH_3)_2N$, $(CH_3)_3N$, butyric acid, valeric acid and isovaleric acid, measured for assessment of the odor concentrations from livestock facility. As the results, it is found that the major matters of odor from livestock facilities were $NH_3$ and $H_2S$. The highest concentration of $NH_3$ is measured as 15 ppm at henhouse and $H_2S$ is measured as 858 ppb at penpig facilities. In the comparison of the average odor unit from livestocks, it is found that the highest odor unit was from swine and the lowest odor unit was from cow facility. So odor unit from swine facilities was 12 to 30 times higher than the odor unit from cow facilities.

양돈시설에서 발생하는 악취특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Characteristics of Odor Emitted from Swine Facilities)

  • 실제운영 중인 40여개 양돈시설을 대상으로 사육밀도, 경영방식, 돈사환기방식, 돈분뇨 처리방식 및 악취저감제 적용특성 등의 관리현황을 파악하고 관능평가 및 악취물질 분석을 통하여 양돈시설에서 발생하는 주요 악취유발물질과 악취발생 특성을 파악하고자 하였다. 양돈시설 악취발생원 중 악취농도(복합악취)는 액비화시설(포기 상태)(평균 4,055배) > 분뇨집수조(평균 913배) > 비육사(평균 506배) > 퇴비화시설(평균 201배) 순으로 조사되었다. 비육사의 경우 슬러리 피트 내부의 돈분뇨 적체높이가 높아질수록, 사육밀도가 높을수록 발생하는 악취수준이 높은 것으로 조사되었으나, 사료첨가 유무에 따른 악취는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. TMA를 제외한 9종의 악취물질($NH_3$$H_2S$, MM, DMS, DMDS, PA, n-BA, n-VA, i-VA)이 돈사와 분뇨저장조 및 퇴비화시설에서 검출되었으며, 악취기여도가 높은 물질은 $H_2S$, MM 등의 황화계열물질과 n-BA, n-VA, i-VA 등의 휘발성 지방산류이었다. 조사 대상 양돈시설의 97.5%가 주거지역과 300 m 이내에 위치하고 있어 악취민원 발생에 취약한 것으로 조사되었다.

  • At Recent the number of livestock is rapidly increased and the scale of farm has changed to large operations in Korea. So the odors from livestock feeding operations have increased and become major environmental problem. The odor emission are dependent on the types of manure management system and the meteorological factors. This report presents the results of a questionnaire on the odor characteristics from livestock facilities for the beef, dairy, swine and poultry. It is founded that the impact by odors from the facilities for swine and poultry is higher than cow and dairy, and the odor intensity at morning is higher than other times.

Effect of aerobically treated manure on odorous material emissions from a swine finishing barn equipped with a continuous pit recirculation system

  • Objective: This study was conducted to determine reduction of various odorous materials from a swine farm equipped with a continuous pit recirculation system (CPRS) with aerobically treated liquid manure. Methods: The CPRS is used in swine farms in South Korea, primarily to improve air quality in pig houses. In this study, CPRS consists of a manure aerobic treatment system and a fit recirculation system; the solid fraction is separated and composted, whereas the aerobically treated liquid fraction (290.0%±21.0% per day of total stored swine slurry) is continuously returned to the pit. Four confinement pig barns in three piggery farms were used; two were equipped with CPRS and the other two operated a slurry pit under the slatted floor. Results: All chemical contents of slurry pit manure in the control were greater than those of slurry pit manure in the CRPS treatment (p<0.05). Electrical conductivity and pH contents did not differ among treatments. The biological oxygen demand of the slurry pit treatment was greater than that of the other treatments (p<0.05). Total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and ammonia nitrogen contents of the slurry pit treatment were greater than those of other treatments (p<0.05). Odor intensity of the CPRS treatment was lower than that of the control at indoor, exhaust, and outside sampling points (p<0.05). The temperature and carbon dioxide of the CPRS treatment in the pig barn was significantly lower than those of control (p<0.05). All measured odorous material contents of the CPRS group were significantly lower than those of the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: The CPRS application in pig farms is considered a good option as it continuously reduces the organic load of animal manure and lowers the average odorant concentration below the threshold of detecting odorous materials.

공기정화기 적용에 따른 돈사 작업장내 입자상 물질 및 생물학상 물질 저감 효과에 관한 연구 (Reduction Effect of Air Cleaner on Particulate Matters and Biological Agents in a Swine Facility)

  • Objectives: This on-site study was performed to evaluate the reduction efficiency of an air cleaner on particulate matters and biological agents in a swine facility. Materials and Methods: Particulate matter was measured using a real-time monitoring recorder and biological agents were sampled with a one-stage impactor and then analyzed based on the microbial culture method. An experimental process for the reduction effect on airborne pollutants through air cleaner operation consisted of three conditions: no treatment, wet scrapper by water spray and wet scrapper by disinfectant spray. Results: Geometric mean levels of particulate matter(TSP, $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_1$) were presented at $1,608{\mu}g/m^3$, $1,373.8{\mu}g/m^3$, $401.8{\mu}g/m^3$ and $144.5{\mu}g/m^3$ for no treatment; $1,503{\mu}g/m^3$, $1,017{\mu}g/m^3$, $159.4{\mu}g/m^3$ and $69.8{\mu}g/m^3$ for wet scrapper by water spray; and $1,222.17{\mu}g/m^3$, $477.17{\mu}g/m^3$, $33.2{\mu}g/m^3$ and $11.1{\mu}g/m^3$ for wet scrapper by disinfectant spray, respectively. In the case of biological agents, the geometric averaged concentrations of total airborne bacteria and fungi were as follows: $45,371cfu/m^3$ and $13,474cfu/m^3$ for no treatment, $43,286cfu/m^3$ and $8,610cfu/m^3$ for wet scrapper by water spray, and $2,440cfu/m^3$ and 1,867 cfu/ for wet scrapper by disinfectant spray, respectively. Regardless of particulate matter and biological agent, the highest concentrations were found for no treatment, while the lowest concentrations were found with wet scrapper by disinfectant spray. Conclusions: Based on the results obtained from this on-site evaluation, there was a significant reduction effect on particulate matter and biological agents through the application of an air cleaner in this study.

돼지분뇨 특성에 따른 기계교반 퇴비화시설의 적정용적 산정 연구 (Investigation on Characteristics of Swine Manure of Optimum Volume for Escalator Reversing Composting Facility)

  • 돼지분뇨 특성에 따른 기계교반 퇴비화시설의 적정용적 산정을 위하여 돈분 및 톱밥에 함유되어 있는 수분투입량과 발효온도, 유기물 분해율 및 수분감소율 등의 변화를 조사하여 적정 용량을 산정하기 위하여 본시험을 실시하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 발효조내 온도는 발효조내 혼합물 투입 후 4일 이상 경과해야 발효온도가 $70^{\circ}C$ 이상 유지되었으며, 발효조내 투입되는 혼합물(돈분+톱밥)의 수분함량은 평균 72.9%로 추천치보다 높게 조사되었으나, 적정수분함량 조정은 발효조 27m 지점 즉, 투입후 $5{\sim}6$일후에나 적정 수분 함량이 되었다. 2. 투입되는 열량가는 현물상태에서 평균 1,127.3kca/kg이고 질소, 인산 가리성분은 각각 1.0%, 1.1, 및 0.38%로 조사되었으며 OM/N은 26.3로 조사되었으며 완제품의 수분 함량은 평균 65.3%였으나 겨울철과 나머지 계절간에는 유의적인 차이가 나는 것으로 조사되었다(p>0.05). 3. 퇴비화과정 중의 유기물 분해율은 평균 3.53%였으며, 계절별로는 봄철이 3.88%로 가장 높았고, 가을과 여름은 각각 3.47, 3.52%로 비슷한 경향을 보였다. 그러나 겨울철에는 3.23%로 봄철에 비하여 약 16.8% 정도 분해율이 낮아 퇴비화기간 동안의 수분감소 량의 경우 유의적인 차이가 나는 것으로 조사되었다(p>0.05). 4. 퇴비화시설의 용적 산정에 사용할 인자를 도출하기 위해 앞서 수행한 시험결과에 의거하여 돼지의 성장단계별 분뇨발생량, 계절별 수분증발량, 유기물 감소율, 용적 중 감소율, 톱밥수분량 및 계절별 수분발생량을 산출하였다. 양돈농가에서 돼지의 사육규모가 2000두를 기준으로 하여 용적을 산정시 슬러리 돈사의 경우 적정 퇴비화 용적은 여름철 $281m^3$, 겨울철 $260m^3$으로 약 7.5%($21m^3$) 차이가 났으며, 돈분뇨 및 세정수 등을 포함한 농가의 경우에는 여름철 $412m^3$, 겨울철 $359m^3$로 계절간에는 약 12.9%($53m^3$)의 차이가 나는 것으로 계산되었다. 5. 따라서 양돈농가에서의 기계교반 퇴비화 시설을 이용하여 돈분뇨를 퇴비화 하는 경우 계절별 수거되는 돈분의 수분 함량과 유기물 분해율 및 수분증발가능량 등을 고려하여 퇴비화 용량을 산정하는 것이 바람직하다고 생각된다.

Seasonal atmospheric characteristics in a swine finishing barn equipped with a continuous pit recirculation system using aerobically treated manure

  • Objective: This study was conducted to determine the seasonal characteristics of odorous material emissions from a swine finishing barn equipped with a continuous pit recirculation system (CPRS) using aerobically treated manure. Methods: The CPRS consists of an aerobic manure treatment process and a pit recirculation system, where the solid fraction is separated and composted. The aerated liquid fraction (290.0%±21.0% per day of total stored pig slurry) is continuously recirculated to the top of the slurry in the pit. Four confinement pig barns in three piggery farms were used: two were equipped with CPRS, and the other two operated a slurry pit under the slatted floor across all seasons. Results: The indoor, exhaust, and outside odor intensities were significantly lower in the CPRS group than in the control group (p<0.001). In the CPRS group, the odor intensity outside was significantly lower in the fall than in the other seasons (p = 0.015). In the indoor atmosphere, the temperature and CO2, NH3, and H2S contents of the CPRS group were significantly lower than those of the control group (p<0.05). In the CPRS group, indoor temperature did not significantly change in the spring, summer, and fall seasons and was significantly lower in the winter (p = 0.002). NH3, H2S, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl disulfide, trimethylamine, phenol, indole, and skatole levels were significantly lower in the CPRS group than in the control group (p<0.05). There were significant seasonal differences on the odorous material in both the control and CPRS groups (p<0.05), but the pattern was not clear across seasons. Conclusion: The CPRS can reduce the indoor temperature in the summer to a level similar to that in the spring and fall seasons. The CPRS with aerated liquid manure is expected to reduce and maintain malodorous emissions within acceptable limits in swine facilities.
