  • Scandinavian design has special meaning in design history. Especially the Swedish designers have developed elegant and humane design style by combining the functionalism originated in Germany in the beginning of 20th century with their own crafts tradition. Now 'Swedish Modern' or 'Swedish Grace' is regarded as the most preferrable style for modern industrial society. American design as well as European design has been much changed under the influence of this democratic, simple and beautiful style. To find out the essential qualities of Swedish design style, I want to investigate the history of modern Swedish design and the design mechanism in Swedish corporates. Also I want to introduce the design education system in Sweden, which has contributed to developing contemporary Swedish design philosophy.

  • This article aimed at understanding the characteristics of Swedish furniture design since 1980s in the reference to the major paradigm changes in the contemporary design field. For this, the authors examined the theoretical background of modern and post-modern design paradigms to identify today's design tendencies. And we used this frame in the analysis of the latest examples of Swedish furniture design. The main characteristics of Swedish furniture design since 1980s included 'furniture as art object', 'the succession of the Swedish Modern (neo-modernism)', and 'conscious design for sustainable development'. These could be viewed as the consequences of the choices that the Swedish furniture industry and designers made during the last decade, that was to take plurality and contradiction as the accompanying values of the traditional Swedish modern design.

  • The social-democratic ideas which define the modern national Swedish idea have had an important influence on Swedish modern design during this century. Swedish designers found humanistic and democratic values in the traditional design style and they tried to create a modem style that was based on handcraft traditions as well as modern industrial aesthetics. Issues raised by Swedish designers of that time induded how Sweden was achieving a national identity through design and how design retlected changes within society. The purpose of this study is to investigate the social reformation policy of the Swedish government during the 1930-1970 period and its influence on Swedish modern design. This paper, it is hoped, will provide an opportunity to place contemporary Swedish design in a social and aesthetic context.

  • With the continuous development of artificial intelligence using computers in the Fourth Industrial Age, the virtual space created by virtual reality experiences boosted by the power of artificial intelligence, provides a new experience for us. The purpose of this study is to explore the new aesthetics that the fashion industry provides to users in virtual space created by virtual reality technology. This research method is based on theoretical research on virtual reality technology and virtual space and constructs a research model applied to this research. The scope of this study is the application of virtual reality technology to fashion shows, fashion exhibitions, and fashion design apps on the website of professional virtual reality technology and fashion for the last five years from 2014 to 2019, which actively merged virtual reality technology with modern fashion. We will analyze the cases one by one. The results of this study are as follows. First, this study shows that the constructed virtual space of modern fashion using virtual reality technology creates three kinds of physical space, perceptual space, and imaginary space based on the commutative theory of virtual space formed by Swedish scholar J. $Widestr{\ddot{o}}m$. Second, virtual reality technology applied to fashion shows, fashion exhibitions, and fashion design apps is characterized by four aesthetic characteristics of presence, perceptual expansion, interactivity, and immersion in physical space, perception space, and imagination space.
