  • Disruptive innovation means the innovation which obsoletes the existing technology by a new technology. Like the examples of disruptive innovation, film camera and digital camera and PC and laptop, CAE technology can be regarded as a disruptive technology which can raise the disruptive innovation. CAE technology which is being improved dramatically with the development of the related technologies brings the innovation in the design and validation process in manufacturing industry. This innovation can change the rule of the market so that the researchers, companies and CAE enginnees should pay attention to it. Also not only the improvement of the technology but also the training and cultivation of the engineers who can utilize CAE technology are very important and cannot be neglected.

  • New planar discharge structured AC-PDP has been developed by using TFCS (Thick Film Ceramic Sheet) technology. By applying TFCS to AC-PDP, a sustaining electrode and scanning electrodes are embedded in the TFCS. It is shown that panel performances such as electrical and optical characteristics are superior to commercialized coplanar AC-PDP as well as cost reduction. Moreover the experimental result shows panel performances can be improved drastically by continuous development.

  • Motorized retractors enhance the safety of passengers by removing the slack of webbing and by holding upright driving position. Reliability of a driving mechanism that includes one-way clutch between the driving motor and webbing is directly linked to the safety of passenger. In this research, conditions for locking one-way clutch, and also conditions for sustaining locking are theoretically investigated. The operation of a motorized retractor under realistic conditions is simulated in order to validate the proposed retractor design.

  • A low cost PDP sustain power supply is proposed based on flyback topology. By using Boundary Conduction Method(BCM) to control input current regulation, DCM condition can be met under all load conditions. Another feature of the proposed method is that a excessive voltage stress due to the link voltage increase can be suppressed by removing link capacitor and suggest new 'Level-shifting switch driver'. this new gate driver is improved 66% of efficiency than switching loss of a existed push-pull amplifier. The proposed converter is tested with a 400W(200V-2A output) prototype circuit.

  • A simple method of assessing the risk of overturning of precast reinforced concrete columns is presented in this paper. The displacement-based methodology introduced herein is distinguished from conventional force-based codified methods of aseismic design of structures. As evidenced by results from field tests precast reinforced concrete columns can be displaced to a generous limit without sustaining damage and then fully recover from most of the displacement afterwards. Realistic predictions of the displacement demand of such (rocking) system in conjunction with the displacement capacity estimates enable fragility curves for overturning to be constructed. The interesting observation from the developed fragility curves is that the probability of failure of the precast soft-storey column decreases with increasing size of the column importantly illustrating the "size effect" phenomenon.

  • This paper outlines an intervention protocol used to educate nurses in a project that implemented and evaluated a delirium educational program in one general hospital. It outlines an evaluation of the content of the education and processes used to deliver the intervention through an analysis of reflective notes. The educational protocol was designed for adult learners and grounded in the six assumptions of Knowles' learning theory. Results suggest the educational program positively impacted on participating nurses' knowledge, attitudes and family caregiver involvement in delirium care of hospitalized older adults with and without dementia. This paper also acknowledges the challenges involved in sustaining a practice change through an educational intervention.

  • Coastal upwelling is a significantly imperative process for understanding the interactions between physical and ecological processes and has been investigated incessantly. In this study, we explored the upwelling index, specifically upwelling age (UA). UA enabled us to observe the initiating, sustaining, and decaying upwelling processes. Although the sensitivity of many other geophysical parameters to estimate UA has been investigated, the wind direction has not been evaluated. Thus, we assessed the appropriate wind direction for the UA and obtained efficient upwelling signals from the four coastal stations. Furthermore, we applied the UA and compared it with the satellite sea level anomaly, sea surface temperature, and chlorophyll-a changes to validate how UA depicts their spatial extents. Thus, UA can predict the timing of coastal upwelling events using predicted geophysical parameters.

  • Considering the recent medicalization of death, the importance of preparing both laypersons and medical students to have meaningful end-of-life conversations, which is among the objectives of death education, will grow. The Act of Hospice and Palliative Care and Decisions on Life-Sustaining Treatment for Patients at the End of Life provided a new source of momentum to death education for both laypersons and medical professionals, as the importance of education on death is widely recognized. However, problems remain regarding how to prepare people for productive conversations at the end-of-life and how to secure the continuity of care. Different focuses and deficiencies are observed in death education programs for each category of learner. In education for laypeople, tangible information on how to actualize one's existential and personal understanding of death through real-life options is lacking, except for presenting the "protocol" of the Act. Conversely, basic medical education lacks an understanding of or confrontation with death on the existential and personal levels. Death education should aim to build a shared understanding that can facilitate communication between the two groups. The scant overlap between layperson education and basic medical education even after the Act's enactment is worrisome. Further fundamental changes in death education are required regarding its content. Topics that patients and doctors can share and discuss regarding death and end-of-life care should be discovered and provided as educational content both to laypeople and future medical professionals.
