The trolley carrying the pod moves along by the airfield runway. The pod through the trolley are subjected to vibration arising from the ground state, the precision optical components in the pod can have a significant impact. The road tests were conducted by using the measurement pod to remove the risk for the project. The measurement pod was composed with the ACRA, sensors, battery. The accelerometers were attached to get the acceleration through the road condition. The PSD envelop was calculated by FFT from the acceleration. The driving safety was proven through comparing the measurement data and MIL-STD-810G specification.

The torsion beam axle type is widely used in the rear suspension for small passenger car because of low cost, good performance and etc. The FE and dynamic analysis using the computer are very helpful for the efficiency of the torsion beam design. First of all, the reliability on the computational model must be verified for the analysis. In this study, The FE model of the torsion beam was verified according to comparison with he test data. And after making the flexible body using the FE model, the dynamic characteristic of the tubular type torsion beam axles was compared with that of the V-beam type.

There are many benefits such as increased areal density, reduced power consumption, applied smaller size and improved shock resistance in Load/Unload(L/UL) mechanism. It has been the key technology of developing small form factor hard disk drive used in portable digital devices. The main objectives of L/UL are no slider-disk contact and faster L/UL process. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL systems. In this paper, we focus on the effects of ramp profile. We can investigate dynamic characteristics of suspension tap and slider on ramp during unloading process experimentally. In special, we examine the effects of vortical velocities, ramp slopes and disk vibrations. As the result of these experiments, we propose design criteria of advanced ramp profile for good unloading performance.

Recently, the development of mobile devices demands information storage systems to use micro drive devices. 1-inch micro drive hard disk uses the load/unload(L/UL) technology to increase area recording density and reduce power consumption. Because micro drive has light actuator, effects of the flexible cable that is ignored in 3.5-inch hard disk drive is important to load/unload performances. In this paper, effects of flexible cable on load/unload performances are studied.

This paper proposes a new type of HDD suspension integrated with shape memory alloy(SMA) actuator in order to prevent the friction between the slider and the disk. A finite element analysis is undertaken to investigate modal characteristics of the proposed self loading/unloading slider. The dynamic model is formulated and its validity is proved by comparing the predicted displacement transmissibility with the measured one. A control model is then established by integrating experimentally-obtained SMA actuator dynamics. Subsequently, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve non-contact start/stop(Non CSS) modes, and control results are presented in time domain.

Using the responses of deck plate, a new bridge weigh-in-motion system has been introduced. The approach includes not only a systematic algorithm for the extraction of moment influence sequence but also a sensitivity-based system identification technique. The algorithm indentifies the influence sequence, the axle loads, and axle location of moving vehicles on a bridge, simultaneously. The accuracy and practicability of the algorithm have been examined experimentally for a folded deck plate on Yongjong Grand suspension bridge. It turns out that the two-dimensional effects of the behavior of deck plate should be considered for further accuracy improvement.
Testing and validation processes are critical tasks in developing a new hardware platform based on a new technology. This paper describes a series of experiments to evaluate the performance of a newly developed MEMS-based wireless sensor node as part of a wireless sensor network (WSN). The sensor node consists of a sensor board with four accelerometers, a thermometer and filtering and digitization units, and a MICAz mote for control, local computation and communication. The experiments include calibration and linearity tests for all sensor channels on the sensor boards, dynamic range tests to evaluate their performance when subjected to varying excitation, noise characteristic tests to quantify the noise floor of the sensor board, and temperature tests to study the behavior of the sensors under changing temperature profiles. The paper also describes a large-scale deployment of the WSN on a long-span suspension bridge, which lasted over three months and continuously collected ambient vibration and temperature data on the bridge. Statistical modal properties of a bridge tower are presented and compared with similar estimates from a previous deployment of sensors on the bridge and finite element models.

In high-capacity disk drives with ever-growing track density, the allowable level of position error signal (PES) is becoming smaller and smaller. A substantial portion of the PES is caused by disk vibration. This can be reduced by using a head gimbal assemblies (HGAs) that do not confine the slider movement to the vertical direction to disks, but allow movement to the radial direction of disks with respect to disk vibration. Several types of HGAs are proposed for such radial motion of the slider. (omitted)

This paper presents a finite element method to analyze the free and forced vibration of a hard disk drive (HDD) considering the flexibility of a spinning disk-spindle with fluid dynamic bearings (FDBs), an actuator with pivot bearings, an air bearing between head-disk interface and the base with complicated geometry. Finite element equation of each component is consistently derived with the satisfaction of the geometric compatibility of the internal boundary between each component. The spinning disk, hub and FDBs are modeled by annular sector elements, beam elements and stiffness and damping elements, respectively. The actuator am, E-block, suspension and base plate are modeled by tetrahedral elements. The pivot bearing in the actuator and the air bearing between head-disk interfaces are modeled by the stiffness element with five degrees of freedom and the axial stiffness, respectively. A global matrix equation obtained by assembling the finite element equations of each substructure is transformed to a state-space matrix-vector equation, and both damped natural frequencies and modal damping ratios are calculated by solving the associated eigenvalue problem with the restarted Arnoldi iteration method. Modal and shock testing are performed to show that the proposed method well predicts the vibration characteristics of a HDD.
