Dynamic Design of a Mass-Spring Type Translational Wave Energy Converter (파력발전용 병진 질량-스프링식 파력 변환장치의 동적설계)

  • This study suggests a dynamic design process for deciding properly design parameters of a mass-spring type Wave Energy Converter (WEC) to achieve sufficient energy conversion from wave to power generator. The WEC mechanism, in this research, consists of a rigid sprung body, a platform, suspension springs and dampers. The rigid sprung body is supported on the platform via springs and dampers and vibrates translationally in the heave direction under wave excitation. At last the resulting heave motion of the sprung body is transmitted to rotating motion of the electric generator by rack and pinion, and transmission gears. For the purpose of vibration analysis, the WEC mechanism has been simply modelled as a mass-spring-damper system under harmonic base excitation. Its maximum displacement transmissibility and steady state response can be determined by using elementary vibration theory if the harmonic ocean wave data were provided. With the vibration analysis results, the suggested dynamic design process of WEC can determine all the design parameters of the WEC mechanism, such as sprung body mass, suspension spring constant, and damping coefficient that can give sufficient relative displacement transmissibility and the associated inertia moment to drive the electric generator and transmission gears.

Study on the Action Mechanism of Polycation in Cell Wall Formation of Suspension Cultured Cells of Daucus carota (당근 현탁배양세포의 세포벽 형성에 있어서 다가양이온의 작용기작에 관한 연구)

  • The aims of this sutdy was to investgate the action mechanism of polycation on the $\beta$-glucan synthetase II (GS II) related to cell wall synthesis in suspension cultured carrot cells. In the suspension cultured cells treated with poly-L-Iysine($12{\mu}M$) and poly-L-ornithine ($12{\mu}M$) having ploycationic nature, GS II activity increased about 40% and 50% than that of the control respectively. And similar response was observed when ATP and NaF were treated. On the other hand, ploy-L-lysine and ploy-L-ornithine did nor affect the membrane permeability. Phorbol-12-myrlstate-13-acetate (TPA), activator of protein klnase, increased about 35% and 1-(5-isoquinolinyl sulfonyl)-2-methyl-piperrazine (H-7), inhibitor of protein kinase, decreased about 30% of GSII activity than that of control. These results suggest that polycation plays a role in the cell wall synthesis by increasing GS II activity through phosphorylation.

  • Recently, use of natural products available from marine sources, and especially algae products, are receiving more attention. Scientific evidence for claimed nutraceutical and therapeutical effects of one such marine algae product, fucoxanthin, is discussed in this paper with a summary of the currently available literature regarding its antioxidant, anti-obesity and anticancer activities. It is safe for use in humans, but as it has poor solubility a nano-suspension mode of delivery may be adopted to improve efficacy of supplments. We conclude from ourliterature review that the marine algae product fucoxanthin has significant antioxidant, anti-obesity and anticancer activity with established mechanisms of action.

  • The road simulator system can simulate the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical movement changed by road conditions and vehicle dynamic characteristics while driving. This system provides the durability evaluation of vehicle suspensions. The system consists of hydraulic actuators, link mechanism, and servo controller. The hydraulic actuators are specially manufactured using low friction seals to endure high speed movement. The link mechanism is designed in order to minimize the dynamic effect during motion and remove the interference between 3axes actuators. The servo controller is composed of sensors, sensor amplifiers - displacement transducers and load cells, and an industrial PC with DSP board which calculates the control algorithm to control hydraulic actuators. The test results are included to evaluate the performance of this simulator comparing vehicle driving test.

  • This report is researched on the cause and mechanism of soil erosion in comparison among Kwangnung, Mt. Kaya, Mt. Chili, and Mt. Soorak by physical and chemical analyses of their for- est soils. Clay, silt, and fine sand of Mt. Soorak are far less than those of Mt. Chili, Mt. Kaya, and Kwangnung area while coarse sand is very high level. The clay ratio of soil at Mt. Soorak is the most high level in comparison with that of other area. Denudation at Mt. Soorak, therefore, is cause of erosion by the result of transportation of soil particles. The eroding velocity increase for larger particle size and stronger cohesion between soil particles. Very fine sand, silt, and clay can be present in suspension near the bottom and the size of the particles in suspension depends upon the velocity of the current near the bottom and the roughness of the bottom.   • A lot of information storage devices have been introduced and developed for recently years. The trends of those devices are high capacity, compact size, low power consumption, reliability, and removability for data interchange with other device. As a satisfaction of these trends, near-field technique is in the spotlight as the next generation device. In order for a near-field recording to be successfully implemented in the storage device, a slider and suspension is introduced as actuating mechanism. The optical slider is designed considering near-filed optics. Suspension is not only supports slider performance, and tracking servo capacity but also meets the optical characteristics such as tilt aberration, and guarantee to satisfy shock performances for the mobility fir the actuator. In this study, the optical slider and the suspension for near-field probe array are designed and analyzed considering dynamic performance of head-gimbal assembly and shock simulation..

  • Purpose: In recent years, weight reduction for improving fuel efficiency of the vehicle and cost reduction have been developed. The structure of suspension link is widely used as a single plate press structure which can reduce process and weight compared to existing pipe welding method. However, it was found that the lifetime of a single plate press structure is determined by initial defects that occurred during initial manufacturing rather than fatigue damage caused by driving. Methods: I research the mechanism of failure phenomenon of the single plate press assist arm of rear wheel. In addition, I investigate durability effect parameters to determine the link lifetime in inserting bush into single plate press process through durability test. Conclusion: I discover significant durability effect parameter in inserting bush into single plate press process. It is expected that the durability can be improved by suggesting a bush inserting process inspection guide for similar suspension link like single plate press structure.

  • This paper describes development of a new displacement sensor for intelligent suspension system in which the damping force has been controlled by MR fluid. Most of the current vehicle height sensors have been installed at external place of the damper and connected to that by mechanical linkages so far. The developed sensor has a new mechanism which detects movement of the sensor rod same as connecting rod in the suspension damper by using a GMR Sensor and converts it to the relative displacement from an initial position.

  • This paper proposes a small VCM (Voice coil motor) type actuator using curved suspensions for auto-focusing and zoom motions for mobile information devices. 1'he proposed focusing actuator adopts a nontraditional type of suspension using curved beams in order to extend output displacement within small height restriction. The curved beam is similar to the leaf spring type which is usually used in optical disk drives. In addition, three different materials are considered for the curved suspension model, and Aluminum shows the best dynamic characteristics. The proposed zoom actuator does not use a suspension supporting bobbin but a moving rail and a sloper mechanism by generating rotational force at lens holder. The sensitivity of design parameters on output performance is studied using ANSYS (3D FEM tool). Experiments using a prototype of the proposed actuator model verified the analytical prediction and performance.

Aerostatic instability mode analysis of three-tower suspension bridges via strain energy and dynamic characteristics

  • Multispan suspension bridges make a good alternative to single-span ones if the crossed strait or river width exceeds 2-3 km. However, multispan three-tower suspension bridges are found to be very sensitive to the wind load due to the lack of effective longitudinal constraint at their central tower. Moreover, at certain critical wind speed values, the aerostatic instability with sharply deteriorating dynamic characteristics may occur with catastrophic consequences. An attempt of an in-depth study on the aerostatic stability mode and damage mechanism of three-tower suspension bridges is made in this paper based on the assessment of strain energy and dynamic characteristics of three particular three-tower suspension bridges in China under different wind speeds and their further integration into the aerostatic stability analysis. The results obtained on the three bridges under study strongly suggest that their aerostatic instability mode is controlled by the coupled action of the anti-symmetric torsion and vertical bending of the two main-spans' deck, together with the longitudinal bending of the towers, which can be regarded as the first-order torsion vibration mode coupled with the first-order vertical bending vibration mode. The growth rates of the torsional and vertical bending strain energy of the deck after the aerostatic instability are higher than those of the lateral bending. The bending and torsion frequencies decrease rapidly when the wind speed approaches the critical value, while the frequencies of the anti-symmetric vibration modes drop more sharply than those of the symmetric ones. The obtained dependences between the critical wind speed, strain energy, and dynamic characteristics of the bridge components under the aerostatic instability modes are considered instrumental in strength and integrity calculation of three-tower suspension bridges.
