  • Network is changed from voice-based network into multimedia-based network by development of communication technology and multimedia service. We need a large bandwidth for multimedia service. The optical fiber is a more suitable medium than existing copper-based cable for large bandwidth. But, it is so expensive than copper-based cable. So, Minimizing total cost becomes a more important concept. In order to construct a minimum cost network, we have to consider existing conduits in network. On the other hand, optical fiber network allows that larger amount of traffic can be transmitted than copper-based network does. However, a failure of a node or link can make a serious damage to the network service. Thus, we have to get multiple paths to support continuous service even if a loss of failure occurs in some point of the network. The network survivability problem is to design the network that can provide reliable service to customers anytime with minimum total cost. In an existing solution of the network survivability problem with conduits, a conduit is considered only one time. But, the conduit is reusable if the network satisfies the required survivability. Proposed algorithm can more effectively considered already existed conduit. Network survivability and edge cost is predetermined. The proposed algorithm finds the best solution by conduit sharing within the limits of network survivability. According to the simulation result, the proposed method can decrease 7% of total cost than an existing method by effective conduits adaption.

  • In the shipbuilding industry, due to the global trends where the number of IT (Information Technology) devices of a smart ship have been increased rapidly, the need to develop a new shipboard backbone network has recently emerged for integrating and managing the IT devices of a smart ship efficiently. A shipboard backbone network requires high survivability because it is constructed in automatic and unmanned smart ships where a failure of the backbone network can cause critical problems. The purpose of this paper thus is to study SAN (Ship Area Network) as a efficient shipboard backbone network, considering particularity of shipboard environment and requirement of high survivability. In order to do so, we designed a dual network topology that all network nodes, including the IT devices installed in a smart ship, are connected each other through dual paths, and reuding tht IT devices pnstalles supporices network survivability as well as t Iffic efficiency for the dual network topology. And then, we verified the performance of the suggested SAN by theoretical and practical analysis including the graph theory, the probability theory, implemental specifications, and computer simulations.

  • Existing security solutions such as Firewell and IDS (Intrusion Detection System) have a trouble in getting accurate detection rate about new attack and can not block interior attack. That is, existing securuty solutions have various shortcomings. Shortcomings of these security solutions can be supplemented with mechanism which guarantees an availability of systems. The mechanism which guarantees the survivability of node is various, we approachintrusion telerance using real time response mechanism. The monitoring code monitors related resources of system for survivability of vulnerable systm continuously. When realted resources exceed threshold, monitoring and response code is deployed to run. These mechanism guarantees the availability of system. We propose control mathod about resource monitoring. The monitoring code operates with this method. The response code may be resident in active node for availability or execute a job when a request is occurred. We suggest the node survivability mechanism that integrates the intrusion tolerance mechanism that complements the problems of existing security solutions. The mechanism takes asvantage of the automated service distribution supported by Active Network infrastructure instead of passive solutions. The mechanism takes advantage of the automated service distribution supported by Active Network infrastructure instead of passive system reconfiguration and patch.

  • In this paper, we investigate three dimensional optimal evasive maneuver patterns for air-to-surface attack missiles against proportionally navigated anti-air defense missiles. Interception error of the defense missile can be generated by evasive maneuver of the attack missile during the time of flight for which the defense missile intercepts the attack missile. Time varying weighted sum of the inverse of these interception errors forms a performance index to be minimized. Direct parameter optimization technique using CFSQP is adopted to get the attack missile's optimal evasive maneuver patterns according to parameter changes of both the attack missile and the defense missile such as maneuver limit and time constant of autopilot approximated by the 1st order lag system. The overall shape of resultant optimal evasive maneuver to enhance the survivability of air-to-surface missiles against proportionally navigated anti-air missiles is a kind of deformed barrel roll.

  • Adaptation to any undesirable change in the environment dictates the survivability of many microorganisms, with such changes generating a quick and suitable response, which guides the physiology of bacteria. During nutritional deprivation, bacteria show a stringent response, as characterized by the accumulation of (p)ppGpp, resulting in the repression of stable RNA species, such as rRNA and tRNA, with a concomitant change in colony morphology. However, genes involved in amino acid biosynthesis become over-expressed to help bacteria survive under such conditions. The survivability of pathogenic bacteria inside a host cell also depends upon the stringent response demonstrated. Therefore, an understanding of the physiology of stringent conditions becomes very interesting in regulation of the growth and persistence of such invading pathogens.

  • In ATM networks with high capacity, the effect of failures on transmission links or nodes can be catastrophic, so that the issue of survivability is of great importance. In this paper. we consider the routing problem for working and backup virtual paths(VPs). To accomplish a higher survivability. routing the two kinds of VPs should be taken into account at the same time because backup VP routing depends on the working VP routing. A coevolutionary algorithm is employed to solve the problem for simultaneously routing of working and backup VPs. To develop an efficient coevolutionary algorithm for the problem. structure of populations, encoding method, neighborhood, and genetic operators are studied in this paper. The results of extensive experiments are reported. The performance comparison of the proposed algorithm with a conventional genetic algorithm and existing heuristics shows that our approach is promising.

  • In this paper, we investigate survivability in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) mesh networks and propose a new algorithm called improved shared-path protection (ISPP) to completely tolerate the double-link failures. Compared with previous algorithms for protecting double-link failures, i.e., shared-path protection (SPP) and shared-link protection (SLP), the advantage of ISPP is to allow primary paths and backup paths to share the mixed wavelength-links based on the proposed new rules in which some primary wavelength-links can be changed to mixed wavelength-links, which can be shared by primary paths and backup paths. In addition, some mixed wavelength-links also can be shared by different backup paths for saving resources. Simulation results show that ISPP algorithm performs better in resource utilization ratio and blocking probability than conventional SPP and SLP algorithms.

  • We evaluated cell survivability by changing RLC value on HV impulse network. When the L value is changed from 0 to 10mH in this circuit. we found that cell survivability is shown large decline with 4mH of L value. I respect to this result, when waveshapes of oscillatory decay are presented along the variation of L value in RLC circuit, we analyzed whether discharge waveform properties have an effect on sterilization ratio, and measured threshold voltage as the minimum peak voltage of a single pulse which can sterilize cells. Finally, we found that the sterilization effect was related to number of threshold voltage waveforms being applied.

  • The objective of this study is the development of size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithm which is based on the genetic algorithms. The algorithm can perform both shape and topology optimum designs of trusses. The developed algorithm was implemented in a computer program. For the optimum design, the objective function is the weight of trusses and the constraints are stress and displacement. The basic search method for the optimum design is the genetic algorithms. The algorithm is known to be very efficient for the discrete optimization. The genetic algorithm consists of genetic process and evolutionary process. The genetic process selects the next design points based on the survivability of the current design points. The evolutionary process evaluates the survivability of the design points selected from the genetic process. The efficiency and validity of the developed size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithms were verified by applying the algorithm to optimum design examples
