  • Objectives: A web-based survey has been administered annually since 2005 throughout Korea to assess the prevalence of adolescent health risk behaviors among middle and high school students. The aim of this study was to evaluate the test-retest reliability of the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBWS) questionnaire. Methods: A convenience sample of 2298 middle and high school students participated in self-administered questionnaire surveys twice, approximately two weeks apart, in 2008. The percent agreement, kappa statistics, and prevalence rates at the first and second surveys were computed for the core subset of 39 self-reported health risk behavior indices of the KYRBWS. Results: Among 39 indices, seven indices had kappas $\geq$ 0.81 and all of the indices had kappas $\geq$ 0.41. Based on nonoverlapping 95% confidence intervals, three indices had significantly different prevalence rates between the first and second surveys. In the subgroup analyses by school grade and gender, two indices had significantly different reliability estimates between middle and high school students. There were no significantly different reliability estimates between male and female students, except for one index. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the reliability estimates for the KYRBWS questionnaire are varied, but generally reliable over time. The indices with low reliability estimates need to be evaluated further in order to determine whether the indices should be modified or deleted from future versions of the KYRBWS.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the suitability of brassiere size and wearing habits of Korean adolescent girls. Subjects were 13 to 17 years old girls (n=282). The data was collected by anthropometric survey and qualitative questionnaire survey. Anthropometric survey measured bust and under bust girths; Qualitative questionnaire survey focused on the practice of purchasing and wearing of brassiere. Two general conclusions emerged: 1) Majority of Korean adolescent girls wore a smaller sized cup than their breast volume 2) Korean adolescent girls wore a larger sized band. These results show the need of educating Korean adolescent girls for their appropriate brassiere size and fit. The value of the brassiere that Korean adolescent girls place differed by age. While the younger adolescent girls expected their brassiere to prevent showing the breast vibration, the older adolescent girls expected their brassiere to avoid breast sagging. The older aged adolescents more valued the fit and style of the brassiere compared to the younger aged group when they purchase brassiere. The younger adolescent girls were more likely to be dissatisfied with the fit of the cup. These results reveal that the junior brassiere should be designed to fit adolescent girls' breast shape and size.

  • Standard estimates are the numerical data of a unit quantity required for construction work such as the amount of materials, manpower, and the use of equipment required and are also a basis to calculate construction costs. Unfortunately, standard estimates for construction have also been used for garden construction these days as no standard estimates for garden construction have been developed or documented until now. As a result, many problems have arisen at garden construction sites since landscape construction and garden construction differ in terms of scope, size, design and construction methods. The purpose of this study was to develop standard estimates for garden construction for proper calculation of the cost of garden construction and to ensure gardens are created following appropriate construction processes. In order to develop standard estimates for garden construction, a preliminary survey was conducted on experts to understand current issues at first. After that, a questionnaire survey was done to examine problems of construction processes and ways of improvement, and on-site inspections were conducted utilizing CCTVs at construction sites to identify the actual amount of manpower required on site. Based on the results of the surveys and on-site inspections, a draft version of standard estimates for 5 types of planting work for garden construction was developed. Developing standard estimates for garden construction will serve as a stepping stone for the transparent and proper compensation for garden construction work, which will not only contribute to addressing issues between consumers and construction companies, but also to the stabilization of market economy and job creation.
