  • We display important test information from radar, telemetry in real time for monitoring and control of guided missile flight test. Clearing test area is the most important thing for safety. Thus, we have to constantly monitor and control ships around the test area. Several maritime surveillance radars are deployed around the test area for that purpose. However, multiple points are displayed for the same target when using multiple surveillance radars and this confuses the test personnel during the mission. In this paper, we suggested a method to solve this problem by analyzing error factor of surveillance radar and comparing the correlation of each radar data.

  • As a sub-system of an air traffic control system, SDP(Surveillance Data Processor) provides with the system tracks of aircraft using the surveillance sensor data from various air traffic surveillance sensors, such as radars. Therefore, the high accuracy of tracking results is a crucial requirement for safe flights, and verification of the required system performance of SDP is an essential step in development. Moreover, the quantitative evaluation of target tracking accuracy is important for newly developed SDP, since there are several tracking methods for Multi-Sensor Multi-Target Tracking, such as MRT(Multi Radar Tracking), inevitably required as the main function of SDP. In this study, definition of required system performances, establishment of test environment, and test results for MRT performance evaluation of SDP, which is being developed in KARI(Korea Airspace Research Institute) are presented.

  • An unmanned surveillance robot consists of a machine gun, a laser receiver, a thermal imager, a color CCD camera, and a laser illuminator. It has two axis control systems for elevation and azimuth. Because the current robot system is mounded at a fixed post to take care of surveillance tasks, it is necessary to modify such a surveillance robot to be installed on an UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) system in order to watch blind areas. Thus, it is required to have a stabilization system to compensate the disturbance from the UGV. In this paper, a simulation based design scheme has been adopted to develop a mobile surveillance robot. The 3D CAD geometry model has first been produced by using Pro-Engineer. The required pan and tilt motor capacities have been analyzed using ADAMS inverse dynamics analysis. A target tracking and stabilization control algorithm of the mobile surveillance robot has been developed in order to compensate the motion of the vehicle which will experience the rough terrain. To test the performance of the stabilization control system of the robot, ADAMS/simulink co-simulations has been carried out.

  • In this study, we propose a verification method for a planar-phased array radar system using a near-field beam focusing(NFBF) test method. We then confirmed the validity of the results. The proposed method can be used to verify a radar system in the near-field range of twice the antenna aperture size, and this is done in the same manner as the field system performance test conducted in a non-outdoor electromagnetic anechoic chamber. The test configuration and procedure for verifying the NFBF using near-field energies were reviewed. In addition, the phase compensation values of additional individual channels were quantified through mathematical verification of the beam-steered NFBF test. Based on a theoretical verification, the actual NFBF test was performed and the validity of the test method was confirmed through comparison with ideal analytical results.

  • The primary goal of this study was to compute sample sizes required to achieve the each aim of a variety of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) surveillance programs, using a statistically valid technique that takes the following factors into account: sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) of diagnostic test system, desired minimum detectable prevalence, precision, population size, and desired power of the survey. In addition, sample sizes to detect FMD if the disease is present and also as proof of freedom were computed. The current FMD active surveillance programs consist of clinical, virological, and serological surveillance. For the 2012 serological surveillance, annual sample sizes (n = 265,065) are planned at four separate levels: statistical (n = 60,884) and targeted (n = 115,232) at breeding pig farms and slaughter house, in together with the detection of structural proteins (SP) antibodies against FMD (n = 88,949). Overall, the sample size was not designed taking the specific aims of each surveillance stream into account. The sample sizes for statistical surveillance, assuming stratified two-stage sampling technique, was based to detect at least one FMD-infected case in the general population. The resulting sample size can be used to obtain evidence of freedom from FMD infection, not for detecting animals that have antibodies against FMD virus non-structural proteins (NSP). Additionally, sample sizes for targeted surveillance were not aimed for the population at risk, and also without consideration of statistical point of view. To at least the author's knowledge, sampling plan for targeted, breeding pig farms and slaughter house is not necessary and need to be included in the part of statistical surveillance. Assuming design prevalence of 10% in an infinite population, a total of 29 animals are required to detect at least one positive with probability of 95%, using perfect diagnostic test system (Se = Sp = 100%). A total of 57,211 animals needed to be sampled to give 95% confidence of estimating SP prevalence of 80% at the individual animal-level with a precision of ${\pm}5%$, assuming 800 herds with an average 200 heads per farm, within-farm variance of 0.2, between-farm variance of 0.05, cost ratio of 100:1 of farm against animals. Furthermore, 779,736 animals were required to demonstrate FMD freedom, and the sample size can further be reduced depending on the parameters assumed.

  • Target-tracking systems are important for carrying out effective surveillance missions using mobile surveillance robots. In this paper, we propose a target-tracking algorithm using camera image data for a three-axis mobile surveillance robot and carry out an actual hardware test for verifying the proposed algorithm. The heading direction vector of a camera system is deduced from the position error between the viewfinder center and the object center in a camera image. The position error is obtained using the CAMShift(Continuously Adaptive Mean Shift) algorithm, an image processing technique. The performance test of an actual three-axis mobile surveillance robot was carried out for verifying the proposed target-tracking algorithm in a real environment.

  • This study was performed to investigate the rabies surveillance in Gangwon-do from 1997 to 2001. Of 185 laboratory submissions for rabies diagnosis, 65(35.1%) cases were determined to be infected with the rabies virus. Annual incidence of animal rabies was 10 cases in 1997, 20 cases in 1998, 16 cases in 1999, 3 cases in 2000, and 16 cases in 2001, respectively. The total number of the reported cases were increased 382% compared with that of the previous period from 1993 to 1996(7 cases). The relative contributions of infected animals in this period were as follows: cattles(24 cases), dogs(26 cases), and raccoons(15 cases). Rabies outbreak in raccoon were steadily expanded. Epidemiologic surveillance showed the rabies outbreaks spreaded to the southern area in Gangwon-do. All rabies cases were showed positive results to rabies tests such as clinical signs, histopathological findings, indirect flourescent antibody test, and mouse inoculation test. Further studies such as genetic and phylogenetic analysis of the isolates should be performed in order to figure out accurate rabies outbreak.

  • The chemistry factor and RTPTS margin for domestic reactor pressure vessel materials were analyzed by using the surveillance data which have been obtained from 8 nuclear power plants in Korea. The surveillance data have been used to assess the integrity of the pressure vessel under the pressurized thermal shock (PTS) event. The chemistry factor, which is determined by the Cu and Ni contents of vessel materials, is considered a proper tool to assess the $RT_{PTS}$. The chemistry factors, which were obtained from the surveillance data of domestic reactor pressure vessels, were investigated and compared with those of Regulatory Guide 1.99 in this study. Regressions for ${\Delta}RT_{NDT}$ were performed to expect the chemistry factor as a function of Cu and Ni, and to estimate $RT_{PTS}$ margin. The margin analysis was performed by comparing the regression graphs and standard deviations with those of Regulatory Guide 1.99. The standard deviations calculated by using the domestic surveillance data for base metal and welds are almost same as the standard deviations which are suggested on Regulatory Guide 1.99, Rev.2.

  • MIL-STD-461E, EMI military standard for the equipment and subsystems, requires reception characteristic tests to verify the susceptibility of a receiver against the jntermodulation and spurious signals. Because the CS103 and CS104 of MIL-STD-461E show the test configuration of the equipment unit like a traditional receiver, it is possible to verify the susceptibility only for the reception signal through analog filters. However, at present when software programming techniques make a progress, the CS103 and CS104 tests need to evaluate the reception signal of the subsystem which includes both the digital filtering effects and analog filter characteristics. These test and evaluation techniques applied to a surveillance radar subsystem. This paper researched the EMI test methods in order to confirm feasibility of these test and evaluation techniques. Also the test results are compared and analyzed.
