Evaluation of Dose Change by Using the Deformable Image Registration (DIR) on the Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with Glottis Cancer (성문암 세기조절 방사선치료에서 변형영상정합을 이용한 선량변화 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the variation of the dose which is delivered to the patients with glottis cancer under IMRT (intensity modulated radiation therapy) by using the 3D registration with CBCT (cone beam CT) images and the DIR (deformable image registration) techniques. The CBCT images which were obtained at a one-week interval were reconstructed by using B-spline algorithm in DIR system, and doses were recalculated based on the newly obtained CBCT images. The dose distributions to the tumor and the critical organs were compared with reference. For the change of volume depending on weight at 3 to 5 weeks, there was increased of 1.38~2.04 kg on average. For the body surface depending on weight, there was decreased of 2.1 mm. The dose with transmitted to the carotid since three weeks was increased compared be more than 8.76% planned, and the thyroid gland was decreased to 26.4%. For the physical evaluation factors of the tumor, PITV, TCI, rDHI, mDHI, and CN were decreased to 4.32%, 5.78%, 44.54%, 12.32%, and 7.11%, respectively. Moreover, $D_{max}$, $D_{mean}$, $V_{67.50}$, and $D_{95}$ for PTV were increased or decreased to 2.99%, 1.52%, 5.78%, and 11.94%, respectively. Although there was no change of volume depending on weight, the change of body types occurred, and IMRT with the narrow composure margin sensitively responded to such a changing. For the glottis IMRT, the patient's weight changes should be observed and recorded to evaluate the actual dose distribution by using the DIR techniques, and more the adaptive treatment planning during the treatment course is needed to deliver the accurate dose to the patients.

  • Surveyors has desired eagerly surveying technology and equipments which are able to acquire a lot of data easily, quickly and precisely. Laser has the merits that is able to obtain a large number of measurements with high precision in a short time and one of concrete realizations is a terrestrial laser scanner called Terrestrial LiDAR. This paper describes 3D modelling of a old architecture which was conducted using a Z-F laser system and the result of positioning analysis. Use of terrestrial laser scanner is much more efficient than existing photogrammetry in measuring and database constructing for preservation and restoration of cultural assets as well as for deformation monitoring and safety diagnosis of structures.

BGA to CSP to Flip Chip-Manufacturing Issues

  • The BGA package has been the area array package of choice for several years. Recently, the transition has been to finer pitch configurations called Chip Scale Packages (CSP). Several of these package types are available at 0.5 mm pitch. requiring surface mount assemblers to evaluate and optimize various elements of the assembly process. This presentation describes the issues associated with making the transition from BGA to CSP assembly. Areas addressed will include the accuracy of pick and place equipment, printed wiring board lines and spaces, PWB vias, in-circuit test issues, solder paste printing, moisture related factors, rework and reliability. The transition to 0.5 mm pitch requires careful evaluation of the board design, solder paste selection, stencil design and component placement accuracy. At this pitch, ball and board pad diameters can be as small as 0.25 mm and 0.20 mm respectively. Drilled interstitial vias are no longer possible and higher ball count packages require micro-via board technology. The transition to CSP requires careful evaluation of these issues. Normal paste registration and BGA component tolerances can no longer achieve the required process levels and higher accuracy pick and place machines need to be implemented. This presentation will examine the optimization of these critical assembly operations, contrast the challenges at 0.5 mm and also look at the continuation of the process to incorporate smaller pitch flip chip devices.

Target Practising in a Global Commons: The Chinese ASAT Test and Outer Space Law

  • When the People's Republic of China destroyed one of its own defunct meteorological satellites, the Fengyun-1C, at an altitude of some 865 km above the earth's surface, the PRC was accused of initiating, or at the very least risking an(other) arms race in outer space also. The test also gave rise to a few legal questions as to the permissibility of this test, and the broader permissibility of using space for military and other weapon-touting activities, Whilst the test cannot be considered to constitute a direct threat to international peace and security so as to invoke relevant legal principles and consequences in terms of the UN Charter for example, it highlights the importance of such clauses in international space law as requiring international cooperation and consultation, due regard for the interests of all other countries both on earth and in outer space, and the further development of general regimes of registration and space debris-prevention. From that perspective, the PRC violated international outer space law not so much by the test itself but by the accompanying lack of information, consultation and due regard for other states', and indeed mankind's, interests.

  • A dedicated reverse engineering(RE) system for rapid manufacturing of human head in a 3D bust has been developed. The first step in the process is to capture the surface details of a human head and shoulder by three scanners based upon the digital moire fringe technique. Then the multiple scans captured from different angles are aligned and merged into a single polygonal mesh, and the aligned data set is refined by smoothing, subdividing or hole filling process. Finally, the refined data set is sent to a 4-axis computer numerically control(NC) machine to manufacture a replica. In this paper, we mainly describe on the algorithms and software for aligning multiple data sets. The method is based on the recently popular Iterative Closest Point(ICP) algorithm that aligns different polygonal meshes into one common coordinate system. The ICP algorithm finds the nearest positions on one scan to a collection of points on the other scan by minimizing the collective distance between different scans. We also integrate some heuristics into the ICP to enhance the aligning process. A typical example is presented to validate the system and further research work is also discussed.

  • In epigraph field to study ancient scripts, alternative readability improvement technologies have been developed to replace existing rubbing method which has low resolution and causes surface pollution of heritages from the viewpoints of extraction process and used materials. Recently many methods which are based on analysis of pixel data for extracting outlines of the specific image have been developed with advancement of image processing techniques. But these methods are not applicable and the results are not satisfied in the damaged inscriptions which are weathered by wind and rain for a long time and in the narrowed one. In this paper laser scanning techniques which uses optical triangulation measurement principle are developed to minimize scanning error. The proposed techniques are consisted of 3 parts:(1) the understanding of optical triangulation measurement principle to find scanning guideline (2) determinations of points interval, scanning distance and scanning angle to guarantee scanning data quality (3) identification of valid point data area which will be used in registration process. The proposed character identification method contributed in decoding an ancient inscription on SeukBingGo in Kyungju.

Biomechanical Analysis of the Rotator Cuff Function During Elevation Motion in Scapula Plane using a Skeletal Muscle Model

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate force of muscles that constituted the rotator cuff during elevation motion in scapula plane, using a skeletal muscle model and quantitatively evaluate rotator cuff function in vivo. A healthy volunteer was measured with an open MR and CT system at elevation positions in scapula plane (MR: $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $120^{\circ}$, $150^{\circ}$, CT: $0^{\circ}$). After reconstruction three-dimensional MRI-based and CT-based bone surface models, matched each models with registration technique. Then supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, teres minor, deltoid (anterior, middle, posterior portions) represented as plural lines. These lines were proportional to physiologic cross-sectional area (PCSA) and defined straight line to bind origin and insertion. Force of supraspinatus became greatest at $59^{\circ}$ of elevation. Subsequently force of deltoid middle portion became greatest at $89^{\circ}$ of elevation. Infraspinatus and subscapularis were active at the meantime. In addition, supraspinatus was active during elevation. These results resembled clinical finding and were proved force couples that contribute to mobility and stability of shoulder complex.

  • A GIS based tactical terrain analysis system named ATTAS(Army Tactical Terrain Analysis Software) has been designed and implemented to support the field commanders for enhancing the capabiliy of their unit and efficiency of weapon system. This system is designed to provide computer graphics environment in which the analyst can interactively operate the entire analyzing process such as selecting the area of interest, performing analysis functions, simulating required battlefield operation and display the results. This system can be divided into three major sections; the terrain analysis modules, utilites, and graphic editor. The terrain analysis module inclused surface analysis, line of sight analysis, enemy disposition, 3D display, radar coverage, logistic route analysis, shortest path analysis, atmospheric phenomena prediction, automated IPB (Inteligence preparation of Battlefield), and other applied analysis. A combination of 2D and 3D computer graphics techniques using the X-window system with OSF/Motif in UNIX workstation was adopted as the user interface. The integration technique of remotely sensed images and GIS data such as precision registration, overlay, and on-line editing was developed and implemented. An efficient image and GIS data management technique was also developed and implemented using Oracle Database Management System.
