Though it was difficult of globally monitor latent heat flux aver the ocean for many years, the situation is rapidly changing by the use of satellite data. Since a bulk formula is used to estimate turbulent heat flux using satellite data, we need wind speed, sea surface temperature and specific humidity data. However, it is not easy to accurately estimate specific humidity using satellite data. Now several algorithms for estimating specific humidity have been proposed and applied to construct latent heat flux data sets. Latent heat flux data sets derived from satellite data such as J-OFURO, HOAPS and GSSTF are available at present. Since the algorithm and used satellite data are not the same between them. the characteristics of each data set may be different. Therefore, it is important to clarify the difference between each data set and investigate the cause of the difference in latent heat flux estimates. In this paper we summarize the present state of the art with regard to the turbulent heat flux estimation by using satellite data. Also we present the comparison results of latent heat flux fields including not only satellite-derived flux fields but also analysis fields.
A phenomenological study on CHF in a bilaterally heated annulus with equal heat flux on both sides was experimentally performed. The working fluid of the present test was R-134a. Variation characteristics of CHF and transition of CHF occurrence location were investigated under different pressure, mass flux and quality conditions. With the increase of critical thermodynamic quality, it was found that CHF first occurred on the outer surface of the annulus, then simultaneously occurred on both sides, and finally occurred on the inner surface at relatively high critical quality. After the CHF location transitioned to the inner rod, the sharp fall of CHF in the limiting critical quality region was observed. The critical quality corresponding to the CHF location transition decreased with the increase of mass flux and pressure. Besides, CHF in tube, internally heated, externally heated and bilaterally heated annuli were compared under the same hydraulic diameter conditions. The present study is conducive to improving the understanding of complicated CHF mechanism in bilaterally heated annulus, enriching the experimental database, and providing evidence for developing accurate CHF mechanism model for annuli.
Direct immersion cooling has been considered as one of the promising methods to cool high power density chips. A fluorocarbon liquid such as FC-72, which is chemically and electrically compatible with microelectronic components, is known to be a proper coolant for direct immersion cooling. However, boiling in this dielectric fluid is characterized by its small value of the critical heat flux. In this experimental study, we tried to enhance the critical heat flux by increasing the nucleate boiling area in the heat spreader (Conductive Immersion Cooling Module). Heat nux of 2 MW/㎡ was successfully removed at the heat source temperature below 78$^{\circ}C$ in FC-72. Some modified boiling curves at high heat flux were obtained from these modules. Also, the concept of conduction path length is very important in enhancing the critical heat flux by increasing the heat spreader surface area where nucleate boiling occurs.
In-Vessel Retention (IVR) is a key technology to retain the molten core in the reactor vessel during severe accidents of Pressurized-water reactors (PWRs). In order to gain the safety margin of IVR, it is crucial to enhance the critical heat flux (CHF) of the reactor vessel, which is submerged in a water pool. To enhance the CHF, we have designed and additive-manufactured porous grid plates with a 3-D printer for design flexibility. We measured the CHF for the porous grid plate on the boiling heat transfer surface and found that the CHF was enhanced by 50 % more than that of the bare surface. The CHF enhanced more with a narrower grid pitch and a lower grid height. The visual observation study revealed that the vapor film was formed at the bottom of the grid plate.

The film boiling heat transfer was experimentally investigated for the water sprays impacting on an inclined hot surface. Full cone spray nozzles were employed for the spray cooling experiment, and experiments were made for different inclination angles of $\theta=0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. The experimental results show that, in the downstream region of the inclined hot surface, increasing the inclination angle increases the local heat flux slowly because of increasing the number of rebound droplets. However, the inclination angle of heat transfer surface had no remarkable effect on the local heat flux of spray cooling under the present test conditions.
An experimental investigation on the incipience of nucleate boiling in forced flow of water is performed as a verification and extension of previous analysis. The effects of the subcooling, Reynolds number and surface curvature on the onset of nucleate boiling(ONB) in a concentric annulus flow channel with smooth inner heating surface is investigated experimentaly. Through flow visualization, the boiling phenomenon was observed directly and the experimental results were examined to find ONB heat flux. The results show that the variation of heat flux at ONB is increased linearly as the Reynolds number and subcooling are increased. The effect of surface curvature is very great specially for a small radius when radius of the inner heating tube is increased, the heat flux at ONB is almost inversely increased for the range of this investigation. It is found that the effect of convex surface curvature on ONB heat flux is very significant for a small radius.

Nucleate pool boiling experiments were performed using pure R11 for various surface angles under constant heat flux conditions during saturated pool boiling. A 1-mm-diameter circular heater with an artificial cavity in the center that was fabricated using a MEMS technique and a high-speed controller were used to maintain the constant heat flux. Bubble growth images were taken at 5000 frames per second using a high-speed CCD camera. The bubble geometry was obtained from the captured bubble images. The effects of the surface angle on the bubble growth behavior were analyzed for the initial and thermal growth regions using dimensional scales. The parameters that affected the bubble growth behavior were the bubble radius, bubble growth rate, sliding velocity, bubble shape, and advancing and receding contact angles. These phenomena require further analysis for various surface angles and the obtained constant heat flux data provide a good foundation for such future work.

Natural convection from a slightly inclined circular cylinders immersed in quiescent cold pure water was studied experimentally. The experiment was carried out for circular cylinders with uniform heat flux ranging from $100W/m^{2} to 800 W/m^{2}$ and inclined angle ranging from horizontal $({\phi}=0^{\circ}) to 15^{\circ}$. The flow fields around cylinder were visualized and heat transfer characteristics investigated by measuring the surface temperatures for each case. As the results, it is shown that flow patterns are changed consecutively through the sequence of steady state downflow, unsteady state flow and steady state upflow with increasing heat flux. At the same inclined angle, as heat flux increases, the average Nusselt number decreases and then increases. At the same heat flux, as inclined angle increases, the average Nusselt number decreases.
In the production of internal combustion engines, there have been trends to develop the high performance engines with improved fuel efficiency, lighter weights and smaller sizes. This trends help to answer problems related to thermal load and abnormal combustion, etc. in these engines. In order to investigate these problems, a thin film-type probe and its manufacturing method for instantaneously measuring surface-temperatures have been proposed in this study, Instantaneous surface temperature of a constant volume combustion chamber was measured by this probe and heat flux was obtained by Fourier analysis. In order to thoroughly understand the characteristics of combustion, the authors measured the wall temperature of the combustion chamber and computed heat flux through a cylinder wall while varying the protrusion height of the probe have been measured. To achieve the above goals, a instantaneous temperature probe was developed, thereby making possible the analysis of the instantaneous temperature of wall surface and the detection of unsteady heat flux in the constant volume combustion chamber.
This study deals with the computing the temperature change of surface to the increment of time and diffusivity, the heat flux during irradiation of laser. In addition, the computer algorithm for computing the penetration change of the corresponding surface irradiated is developed. The result of this study shows the possibility to treatment of cancer, abnormal cell and biological tissue during irradiation of laser.
